TREAT Modeling Procedures for Energy Upgrade California TREAT Modeling Procedures for Energy Upgrade California General Best Practices This document is to be followed when using TREAT to model single-‐family homes in the Energy Upgrade California program. Baseline Model Whether or not the baseline model will be calibrated, PSD highly recommends using the TREAT Building Wizard for all single-‐family energy modeling to quickly create the home’s envelope, lighting, and appliances. Additionally, the following settings and defaults should be used as a starting point or when the value from the energy audit is not known with a high degree of confidence. These values should be changed/updated when the actual value is observed or measured during home energy audit or based on the homeowner’s input. When you create a new model, TREAT uses this lighting density and assumes 60W bulbs that are on for an average of 3 hrs/day. These assumptions and defaulted lighting are fine if you are not improving any TREAT Modeling Procedures for Energy Upgrade California lighting. This default lighting should be changed to reflect the actual lighting of the home if lighting improvements are being made. Appliances 1) Model the following appliances, when present, even if they are not being upgraded. a) Clothes washer b) Clothes dryer c) Cooking range, if it uses a fuel d) Dishwasher e) Pool pump Note: These appliances are added by default when you build a new model. You should delete those that do not apply or have usage assumptions that differ from the home being inspected. In the Appliance Library, select the appliance and then click on the Adjust Usage Assumptions button. 2) Model those electric appliances that will be replaced (e.g. refrigerators) 3) All other electric appliances and plugload should be modeled as one misc electric load (MEL) input as described in the table below. The MEL should be adjusted so that the TREAT calculated Electricity Baseload is close to that of the Total Annual Electricity Baseload. When better information is available from (e.g. monthly billing data, annual usage from homeowner), that should be used in place of the Total Annual Electricity Baseload.
