From Sue – I am delighted you have chosen to be part of this embellishment class and my new creative journey. Each one of you will start with the same base which we will layer and embellish to make a unique piece. I have included your base kit and pattern which I would like you to appliqué before class. Referring to the photograph, first needle turn appliqué your polka dot fabric 4” in from the right hand side of your sea foam blue background piece. Now sew your sea foam and light gold background pieces together using a ½” seam allowances. Iron your seam open. Finish by appliquéing the rick rack over the seam between your two background pieces. Trace your appliqué pieces on the matt side of your freezer paper. Cut them out on the line and iron the shiny side of the freezer paper to the right side of the appropriate wool colors. Pin in place. Please note I never use a fusible to adhere my wool pieces to the background. I appliqué my hand dyed wool using a #24 Chenille needle and small whipstitch matching the wool thread color to the appliqué. If you choose to use wool thread for appliqué these are the following Genziana 50/50 wool thread colors I used to match the appliqué pieces in the kit– #12 – Wine Red #50 – Birch Leaf #252 – Burnt Orange #269 – Dark Sea Sue Spargo © 2014 Additional Supplies to Bring to class o Please bring from your personal stash small amounts of fabric and embellishments -beads, ribbons, floss, trinkets and small scraps of wool, cotton and textural fabrics for layering.
