Student Initiated Community Projects Each year since 1967, through a partnership with the ASUC, the Public Service Center awards sponsorship to 25-30 student groups engaged in service projects that address vital community needs. Application can be found at: http://publicservice.berkeley.edu/communityprojects/application Public Service Center sponsorship supports registered student organizations carrying out service projects, provides access to specialized advising services and administrative resources, and offers a grant to defer service project expenses. Benefits Grants awarded to student organizations range from $200-$3,000 depending on the need and assets of the organization and community partners. Student organizations will strengthen their leadership and organization, deepen their service, and build stronger collaborative networks. Organization Qualification For the 2015-2016 academic year, the Public Service Center seeks to support groups interested in developing a working relationship with the Center. Groups are invested in the training and support received through the Center Leaders are open to being reflective with their service Groups are interested in developing a social justice and equity framework to inform their service Members are looking to deepen their organization’s relationships to the communities they serve by networking with other student organizations and community partners Organizations are willing to work with their adviser to identify and implement best practices in order to grow their service 2015-2016 Community Projects Structure In 2015-2016, the Student-Initiated Community Project (CP) Student Advisory Committee will be supporting the implementation of a new student and community centered restructuring of the Student-Initiated Community Projects Program. In this new structure, there will be 3 options of funding: year round funding, funding in the fall semester only, and funding in the spring semester only. The semester(s) in which your organization will be the only semester that your organization is expected to meet the Community Projects grant requirements. Semester Total Number of Groups Expected to be Supported Fall 2015 15 Spring 2016 30 The Student Advisory Committee will be supporting the selection process and monetary allocation for the Student-Initiated Community Projects groups for the 2015-2016 academic year with the support of the Service Coordinator for Student Groups from the Public Service Center. All accepted groups will receive an initial allocation of $200. Final allocations and semester(s) of support will be decided and awardees will be notified by August 10th. Organizations must officially accept the final award by August 21st. Groups receiving support for the fall semester or for the entire 2015-2016 school year will be expected to be present at the Monday, August 24th Student Leaders in Service Orientation. The CP Student Advisory Committee is composed of members from the ASUC, Berkeley Service Network, the Public Service Center Student Advisory Committee, the LEAD Center, and a past leader from a Community Projects organization.
