COURSE FACT SHEET Broad Acre Cropping and Systems Management AHC40110 Agriculture (Cropping) This course equips students with the skills and knowledge to commence or progress their career in the Broad Acre Cropping and Agricultural industry. Studying Broad Acre Cropping at Emerald Agricultural College provides students with extensive hands-on experience throughout the production cycle, with 500 acres of irrigated cropping. Crops grown on College farms are influenced by the seasonal and market conditions of the Central Highlands district and can include cotton, sorghum, wheat and barley. Course Type Certificate IV Course Location Emerald Delivery Mode Full Time, Face to Face Career Opportunities Graduates from this course may find employment as Farm Supervisor (Cropping). Farm Supervisors train, direct and supervise staff, co-ordinate operations, control budget and stock and oversee planting, growing and harvesting activities on Crop Farms. Course Structure A focus on fieldwork application ensures theoretical knowledge is integrated into a practical environment. Subjects covered in this course include chemical use, irrigation, agricultural cropping operations, operating within a budget framework, the supervising of work routines and staff performance. This course is designed to be completed full time over a 20 week semester. Entry Requirements For entry at Certificate IV level, the recommendation is completion of the Certificate III course or equivalent, and/or mature age with current or prior work experience. Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) eac.edu.au RPL may provide you with exemptions. RPL takes into account any previous study, work and life experience against the competencies being studied. Please read the list of courses for this program and consider if you wish to apply for RPL. There is an administrative cost involved to RPL. Rooms are fully furnished and serviced weekly. Each residential block has a common room, fitted with a television, kitchenette and dial-in telephone. A full laundry service is provided with coinoperated machines available for out-of-hours use. A range of rental, share and full board accommodation is available in the town of Emerald for students who may wish to live off-campus. There is a deposit fee of $300 required (accommodation and tuition) to secure your place. The Emerald Agricultural College year is made up of two semesters.
