That’s why the Agincourt Garden Club, Scarborough Garden & Horticultural Society and Toronto Parks, Forestry & Recreation continue to run this competition to recognize the outstanding gardens of Scarborough. We are asking Scarborough residents to nominate residential, traditional, environmental and alternative front gardens as well as condo, apartment buildings and commercial street front gardens. Garden Award Categories Judging Criteria Residential, traditional a garden with a lawn Design • Balance Contest winners will be honoured at an awards ceremony in October at the Scarborough Civic Centre. Residential, environmental/ alternative a garden with little or no lawn Contest Area Condos & apartment buildings street front gardens Commercial properties businesses, restaurants All gardens in the area are bounded by: • Lake Ontario on the south • Steeles Avenue on the north Who May Nominate a Garden • Victoria Park on the west Anyone may nominate their own garden or anyone else’s garden. It is not necessary to be a Toronto resident to nominate a Scarborough garden. • Pickering Town Line on the east Contest Boundaries Victoria Park Ave. Pickering Town Line Steeles Ave. • Originality • Selection and arrangement of plants, trees and shrubs • Design of traffic flow Hard Landscaping • Use of driveway paving and walkways • Use of stones, rocks, statuary, containers, walls, fencing and water features Condition & Maintenance • Cleanliness of garden and area • Free from disease and weeds How to Nominate a Garden • Good garden practices Take a tour of your neighbourhood and locate the most beautiful front gardens. • Suitable ground cover Complete the attached nomination form, listing each garden you would like to nominate.
