HKBN Partners with ChickenSoup Foundation
to Establish Three Service Centres for over 600 Underprivileged Hong Kong Children
(Hong Kong - 6 May 2015) In order to fulfill its core purpose of “Making our Hong Kong a Better Place
to Live”, Hong Kong Broadband Network Limited ("HKBN") announced today that the company has
donated HK$1 million to ChickenSoup Foundation, a local charity initiative that helps children from lowincome families. Instead of the fairly standard approach of incurring a similar sum for picking a preferred
“lucky” SEHK stock code for the initial public listing of HKBN Ltd. this past March, HKBN injected HK$1
million into an impactful corporate social investment project decided via consensus by its Talents, with
a view of creating long-term social value for Hong Kong.
Out of the 18 proposals HKBN received, ChickenSoup Foundation edged out its peers and was selected
as the beneficiary partner as voted by HKBN Talents.
“Like HKBN, ChickenSoup Foundation shares a similar belief in corporate social investment for our
community with maximum sustainable impact, rather than merely operating on a more conventional
corporate social responsibility approach,” said Ivy Lau, Director – Talent Engagement & Corporate
Social Investment and Co-Owner of HKBN.
HKBN’s HK$1 million donation will be used to hire experienced personnel in managing the day-to-day
operations of three new service centres in Tseung Kwan O, Tin Shui Wai and Tung Chung, which will
open later this year. The centres will help children through ‘education’ (daily homework tutorial and
weekend English reading), ‘health’ (hot nutritious meals, medical consultations and therapy, physical
training), and ‘inspiration’ (field trips; training in art and music; introduction to celebrities and role models
with a humble background). Overall, 662 children from the grassroots will benefit from this plan. Over
the next three years, it is estimated this social investment may bring almost 30 times in social benefit
returns for the community.
“On behalf of all the beneficiaries served by ChickenSoup Foundation, I extend a big thank you to all
HKBN Talents for making such a big investment into our program,” said Edward Man, founder of
ChickenSoup Foundation. “Such a commitment does not only add quality and depth to our services, it
represents a vote of confidence for our innovative and impactful operating model, and will serve us well
in our inaugural fund raising effort, which we aim to increase overall coverage in scale, speed and
quality.”
“Many companies avoid making donations to support NGOs’ administrative spending. HKBN thinks
differently. Like how we believe our Talents are critical to our business success, we injected this funding
to support the hiring of dedicated managers for the new children centres. ChickenSoup Foundation will
then pool resources through their network to offer a wide range of after-school services for these needy
children. This truly is a beautiful picture, to witness so many from different parts of the community
partner together to make our Hong Kong a better place to live,” said Ivy Lau.

from low-income families through educational, health-related and inspirational programs
