Small-group Facilitation Volunteer Program Summer 2015 Help others feel heard. Resolutions Northwest’s Facilitation Program supports individuals, groups and communities in a wide range of interesting and challenging projects. We design and lead problem-solving meetings, public forums, strategic planning retreats, group mediations, multi-party Good Neighbor Agreements, and dialogues about challenging issues. We also provide trainings on effective group processes. Volunteers are a vital component of our work. We offer training and ongoing opportunities to practice and develop facilitation skills in exchange for a volunteer commitment to support our facilitation team. This summer we are offering a new volunteer program focused on facilitating small-group discussions and other support roles needed at large forums. If you are interested in learning how to lead small-group discussions in ways that help create a safe space in which all participants feel that their voices are heard and their experiences are validated, we’d love to have you on our team! What you get: • A seat in the “Equity Informed Small Group Facilitation” training on June 19th. • Volunteer gatherings on 6/23, 7/7, 7/21, 8/4, and 8/18 from 6 – 8:30pm where you will continue to learn and practice new skills, debrief volunteer experiences, and get to know other volunteers. • Chances to put your skills into action through volunteer facilitation opportunities. • Support and mentorship for your growth as a facilitator. What you contribute: • 25 volunteer hours including volunteer cohort gatherings, and at least 12 hours working on facilitation cases, such as facilitating small-group discussions at Race Talks*or supporting our facilitation at a large community forum, helping with outreach efforts, or participating in other RNW training and events. • Assist the Facilitation Program in growing more culturally competent and relevant to the communities we serve—through the skills and life experience you bring and/or your willingness to learn and grow in this area. Here is what we’ll consider in reviewing applications: * Participation in Race Talks is optional and encouraged. Race talks is held at McMennamins Kennedy School the 2nd Tuesday of each month from 7-9PM. • Strong consideration will be given to… o Willingness to commit to the contributions listed above o Previous completion of at least a 32-hour basic mediation training OR other facilitation experience • Other factors we will consider… o Past volunteer contributions to RNW o Interest in continuing as facilitation volunteers beyond this summer o Availability various days and times o Some consideration will be given to facilitation experience, but there is also room for volunteers who are new to facilitation and to RNW. Application process: • Submit the application form to info@resolutionsnorthwest.org. by Thursday May 28th. (Late applications may be considered.) • We will review applications and select about 8-10 new volunteers. • We’ll let you know our decision by Friday, June 5th.
