Day of the tour: Go to the Ridgway Chamber of Commerce website (ridgwaycolorado.com) for home locations and a map, which will be posted at least a week before the event. The tour will go on rain or shine. Homes may be visited in any order. Be sure to pick up a program at your first stop. Carpooling is encouraged. Be courteous to other attendees and homeowners and use good judgment about where you park. Be careful that your car does not cause any damage to the landscaping, does not block anyone in or impede traffic flow. Show your ticket as you enter each house. Wear shoes that are easy to remove or use booties. If you decide on booties, please recycle and take them with you to the other homes. The sponsor, owner, subcontractors and others present will want to talk with you. You should be able to identify them as architect, builder, plumber, etc. from their name tags. Feel free to ask questions and interact with them and get business cards. If we have your email address, we will send an evaluation after the tour. We would welcome your comments and suggestions for future tours. Keep and show your ticket for special offers: A number of sponsors and advertisers have established discounts, drawings or special offers for tour attendees the first two weeks of May. A list of these will be in the event program, so don’t discard your ticket! Keep and show your ticket to access the special offers until the promotional period is over. SPONSORS/ADVERTISERS Sponsors - getting a home on the tour Criteria for homes: Home are well-appointed, furnished residences built or remodeled in the last five years. In special cases we may accept an older home that is particularly noteworthy. Application and approval process: Homes are reviewed and approved before being added to the tour. Prospective sponsors complete a home tour sponsor application form and submit it with the sponsor fee. An appointment is arranged to view the home, with notification of the outcome within a week. Payment is not processed unless the home is approved. Realtors/for sale homes: One home currently on the market will be accepted for the tour. To be eligible, a prospective realtor sponsor follows the same steps enumerated above, submitting the home tour realtor application and payment, and getting approved. The realtor must be a member of the Ridgway Chamber. An owner or a bank may also sponsor a for sale home as long as it is listed with a realtor. A lottery will be held April 1 if more than one home for sale is submitted. Notifications will be made within a week of that date. Only the payment for the home selected will be processed. If no homes for sale are submitted by the lottery date, admittance to the tour will be awarded to the first for sale home application submitted after April 1 that qualifies. Please note, as mentioned above, that homes must be furnished. Sponsor obligations: If a home is accepted for the tour, the sponsor is responsible for: • getting owner permission • completing some additional paperwork, including a description of the house • within two weeks of house approval, submitting black-and-white artwork for the program ad, a photo of the house exterior (we can convert the photo to black-andwhite if necessary) and a color and black-and-white logo for the sponsor sign/program • arranging appropriate on-site coverage during the tour. (We provide a letter to make this easy. The sponsor sends it to his/her subs or others who could benefit by being on site during the tour and interacting with attendees.) Sponsor/advertiser information & benefits Number of attendees: A good turnout from quality prospects. Attendee profile: If you are engaged in the building field, you’ll find home tour attendees to be good prospects. Many tour goers will be in the construction business (and could hire you or buy your product/service), interested in buying/building/remodeling a home (source of future work) or could refer you (real estate agents, mortgage brokers, residents). Or they may be existing homeowners who need repairs or updates to their home (another opportunity for work) or are looking for fresh, creative ideas for their indoor or outdoor living spaces. Who should advertise? In addition to home building related businesses, non-buildingrelated businesses or individuals who advertise or sponsor a home will find the home tour a good buy for their promotional dollars. Providers of goods or services for homes or homeowners — whether medical, dental, banking or personal services such as massage and spa treatments — who advertise or sponsor a house will also benefit from increasing awareness among this high income segment. Program booklet doubles as directory: The publication distributed to the 2015 Ridgway Tour attendees serves a two-fold purpose. It functions as the event program and a year-round directory. 1. The event program contains pictures, descriptions and a map of homes on the tour and the ads. Also included is a list of sponsor and advertiser specials and discounts available the first two weeks of May to tour goers who show their ticket. (So don’t throw away your ticket after the event.) 2. Flip it over and it’s a home building directory. Tour attendees retain it for later use to locate companies and individuals who perform home design, construction, renovation or repair, and others who provide services and products for the home and for homeowners. Being included in the home building directory is a smart, costeffective way to make it easy for prospective clients to reach you. Listings, grouped by category (builders, architects, electricians, painters, and so on), consist of name, company name, address, phone and email. Any programs left after the tour will be given to new residents or distributed through the Visitors Center. Home sponsors. You don’t have to be in home construction to be a home sponsor. Any entity may sponsor a home. It may be an architect, construction company, designer, window or mortgage company, or bank. Up to three entities may co-sponsor a house. Sponsor benefits. Sponsors are prominently listed in the home building directory section of the program by category (Builder, Architect, Designer and so on) and are identified on a sign outside the home. A two-page spread is allocated in the event section of the program per house, whether it has one or three sponsors. One page features the house and one is for the sponsor(s). Sponsors receive two tickets to the tour, co-sponsors one each. Advertisers. Many types of businesses in addition to those in the construction field advertise in home tour programs because attendees are typically upscale consumers. The Telluride Art & Architecture (July 2014) Weekend Tour program includes ads from restaurants, furniture stores, liquor stores, a pharmacy, rug and carpet company, dress shop, bank and luxury vacation rental company. The Savor the San Juans Food and Home tour in Montrose in September featured other advertisers: a car wash, home loan insurance company, golf course and a financial planning firm. A review of non-local home tours showed investment firms, realtors, jewelers and property management companies advertise as well. Special promotion. Sponsors and advertisers have the opportunity to extend the reach of the home tour by establishing discounts, drawings or special offers to draw tour goers into their stores the first two weeks of May. Attendees retain their ticket and show it to access the offers. Rates Ad and sponsorship prices include free tickets for you or someone else to attend the tour. The 5.5” x 8.5” program/directory is a black-and-white publication with two front covers. The first cover will be labeled as the home tour program. Ads are placed in this section. Flip the booklet upside down and this cover will be for the directory. A listing for your company will appear in the appropriate section (e.g., electrician, builder) of the directory. Both the inside cover of the program and the inside cover of the directory are available for ad purchase. Advertiser deadline to submit the artwork for their ad is two weeks after payment has been received. Sponsor deadline is two weeks after house has been approved. By that date, sponsors will submit 1) ad artwork (be sure the print ready art for your ad is B&W or will display well in B&W) 2) a photograph of the house (B&W or color - we can convert a color photograph to B&W) 3) images of the sponsor logo in black-and-white (for the program) and color (for the house sponsor sign). Please note if the images you submit are not high resolution, print quality will be poor. Also, we cannot ensure artwork submitted later than four weeks before tour date will be included in the program.
