Real Options for City Kids (R.O.C.K.) is dedicated to nurturing the healthy development of children by listening
attentively to their needs and by providing opportunities to those who might not otherwise have access. R.O.C.K. aims
to promote the positive development and long-term success of the youth that it serves through a combination of inschool and after school learning enrichment, sports and fitness, leadership training, outdoor adventure, and summer
camp opportunities. R.O.C.K.'s programs are designed to serve girls and boys, ages 6-17, who live in or attend school in
San Francisco's Visitacion Valley.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Title: Summer Escape Counselor
Description: R.O.C.K.’s Summer Escape Counselor will facilitate fun activities and teach a group of youth how to cook or
to navigate through San Francisco. At the end of the program each group will design a final project, compete in our
“Iron Chef” competition if they are in a cooking group, and participate in our White Water Rafting/Camping Trip.
Pay: $12.25 - $16/hour depending upon experience.
Commitment: Mondays – Fridays, 8:30 am - 3:00 p.m. (times may change) from June 8th through July 17th.
Training Dates: June 1st – June 5th.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
 Managing a group of 20 students
 Teaching youth decision making skills
 Teaching youth how to cook or navigate through San Francisco
 Assisting youth in managing a group budget
 Assisting youth in planning & executing activities
 Assisting youth in creating a final project
 Taking attendance
 Creating and facilitating fun activities for students
 Creating a safe and nurturing environment for the youth
 Setting up/cleaning the R.O.C.K. Beacon office and kitchen
 Managing one high school assistant
 Maintaining communication with Middle School Program Coordinator and Parents/Guardians
 Attending weekly staff meetings
 Assisting Middle School Program Coordinator
 Attending Mandatory White Water Rafting/Camping Trip (July 15th - July 17th)
QUALIFICATIONS
 1 -2 years experience in working with middle school youth
 Valid CA Driver’s License
 Desire to work with at-risk urban youth
 Sense of humor
 Have a reliable means of transportation to and from program
 Knowledge of youth development
 Available the entire duration of program
