PAUL HARRIS SOCIETY
The Paul Harris Society recognises Rotarians and friends of The
Rotary Foundation who personally contribute US$1,000 or more to
the Annual Fund, PolioPlus or an approved Foundation Grant each
year.
The Paul Harris Society was originally created in 1999 by Past
District Governor Wayne Cusick from District 5340. PDG Wayne
realised that giving US$1,000 annually to the Foundation was not
possible for every Rotarian, but many could be encouraged to
contribute to this level or above. PDG Wayne introduced the Paul
Harris Society program to encourage and recognise these
individuals. This idea quickly spread to other Districts throughout
the world. While this recognition was originally designed as a
District administered program, the Trustees adopted the Paul Harris
Society as an official recognition program of The Rotary Foundation,
effective 1st July 2013.
Paul Harris Society members bring positive change to communities
around the world. In any given year, less than 3% of Rotary
Foundation donors contribute at the Paul Harris Society level, or
above, yet their contributions represent approximately 35% of all
Annual Giving. As Rotary Foundation Grants and activities are
largely funded by Annual Fund contributions, Paul Harris Society
members help determine how many individuals, families and
communities Rotary can impact each year.
The Paul Harris Society has been, and will continue to be, one of The
Rotary Foundation’s most important ways to thank and recognise
continued generosity. All Paul Harris Society members receive a
wearable recognition insignia and a certificate of membership in
appreciation for their support.
If you would like to know more about the Paul Harris Society, or wish
to become a member, please contact PDG Carolyn Krueger, District
9600 Paul Harris Society Coordinator. Email: noosa@bigpond.net.au

SAILING AROUND THE WORLD FOR POLIOPLUS
Seung Jin Kim, a member of the Rotary Club of Seokmun, in
Chungcheongnam, Korea, set out in mid-October 2014 on a 25,600
mile journey around the world. Kim, a veteran sailor, is using the trip
to raise awareness and funds - at least $200,000 - for Rotary’s End
Polio Now campaign.
Kim’s vessel has a 68-foot mast with a sail emblazoned with the End
Polio Now logo.
More than half-way through the voyage, Kim is now in the middle of
the Indian Ocean, en route to Western Australia.
Kim, whose journey is sponsored by 18 Districts in Korea, expects to
return home in late May, having crossed the Pacific, Antarctic,
Atlantic and Indian Oceans.
