customers.”
– Brenda Reuland, American Eurocopter,
VP for Communications & Public Relations
HAI: What We Do
For more than 60 years, HAI has been the association for member
companies and individuals involved in helicopter aviation — from
manufacturers to operators and pilots. Central to the HAI mission is
advocating for its members on legislative and regulatory issues and
promoting the unique contributions of vertical flight.
Meanwhile, HAI works within the industry for the safe, efficient, and
effective operation of helicopters. Through offerings such as the HAI
Accreditation Program of Safety, professional education courses,
and the HAI Mobile app for smartphones and tablets, HAI informs,
educates, and serves its members.
As producer of HAI HELI‑EXPO, the world’s go-to helicopter trade
show, HAI is a gathering point for the rotorcraft industry. It also
represents that industry to the world by exhibiting, speaking, and
presenting at key aviation trade shows around the world.
HAI: Our Global Reach
HAI reaches helicopter professionals around the world:

– David Thomas, Latitude Technologies
Corporation, Business Development
“Advertising in HAI publications
benefits AIS with the exposure
and sales of our helicopter-related
material, and is dollars well spent.”
– James Sensale, Aviation Instrument
Services, Inc., President

Before You Submit Your Article …
Here are some things you should know about writing for ROTOR magazine:
• The ROTOR editorial staff will review your article and determine its suitability for
publication in ROTOR. If your article is declined for publication, the editorial staff will
notify you, and ROTOR will have no further rights to it.
• All articles accepted for publication are edited. However, authors have the opportunity
to review their edited articles before publication, and articles are only published with
the approval of both the author and the ROTOR editorial staff.
• ROTOR does not compensate its volunteer authors, and it does not reprint material
that has been published elsewhere.
• ROTOR articles should be informational and provide the reader with value. Articles
that are strictly promotional will be declined.
• By agreeing to publish in ROTOR, you allow HAI and ROTOR to publish and reprint
your article and use it for promotional purposes.
• Articles should be between 1,500 and 2,400 words. Verify every name, date, fact, and
figure. We count on you to give us the correct information.

Before You Write for ROTOR Magazine …
Here are some ideas to help you start writing your ROTOR article.
Winter 2014
rotor.org
Consider Your Audience
• Write for your peers in the rotorcraft industry. They are looking for information about
helicopters, aviation-related products, and ideas for improving the safety, efficiency,
and profitability of their businesses.
• Give your readers specific, concrete content they can use. Write the kind of article
that you would want to read.
• Keep your topic narrow with a practical focus. Don’t write about training; write
about a specific training program that produced specific results. Don’t write about
safety; write about how your safety management system is affecting your day-to-day
operations.
Share Your Experience, Insight, and Passion
• Personal experience is your best source of article content. Has your business
encountered problems and found solutions that can be shared? Do you have a fresh
approach or a cost-effective solution to an old problem?

FOR THE INDUSTRY
• Tell readers what you have learned. Cover both what works and what doesn’t.
• Write about what you are excited about. What innovations or successes do you
discuss with your boss or associates? What are you proud of? That’s what will make an
interesting article.

• Create a one- or two-sentence summary of what you want the reader to take away
from your article. It will help you to focus your ideas and stay on track as you write.
• Get to the point. Write a lead sentence or paragraph that will grab your audience’s
attention. Your lead must be relevant to your topic and get to the point quickly.
• Use subheads throughout the article to help the reader follow the development of your
ideas. Make sure that every paragraph follows the one before it logically and smoothly.

Make It Memorable
• Keep it real. Using anecdotes or case studies moves your ideas from the general to the
specific and helps the reader grasp complex information.
• Use tables, figures, or charts to illustrate your points. Use a flowchart to illustrate a
process, a pie chart to show the breakdown of percentages, or a bar chart to compare
different values. A picture or a graphic is worth a thousand words.
Don’t Sweat It
• If you aren’t a professional writer, don’t worry. Your article will be edited by the ROTOR
editorial staff (and it’s our job to make you look good). What we really need from you is your
real-world field experience in rotorcraft aviation. We’ll take care of the commas!

General Terms and Conditions for Advertising
By submission of an advertisement of any kind to Helicopter
Association International (“HAI”) for publication in HAI materials,
Advertiser or its Agency (collectively “Advertiser”) agree(s) to abide
by the following terms and conditions:
1. These general terms and conditions for advertising and rates are
subject to change without notice. Advertiser’s submission of an
insertion order to HAI represents Advertiser’s acceptance of all
HAI advertising rates and conditions in effect as of the date that
insertion order is submitted.
2. Advertiser acknowledges and agrees that insertion orders
are subject to strict publication deadlines. Accordingly, HAI
cannot accept cancellations or changes to insertion orders
after the space reservation date reflected on the rate card. HAI
shall have the right to hold Advertiser and/or its advertising
agency jointly and severally liable for such charges as are due
and payable for insertion orders received by HAI by the space
reservation date.
3. HAI reserves the right to charge Advertiser additional amounts
for production work required to make an advertisement print
ready. HAI shall provide to Advertiser a quote of estimated
production charges within a reasonable period after HAI’s
receipt of advertising copy from Advertiser.
4. Insertion orders that through the Advertiser’s error do not
correspond with HAI published current rates will be charged
at the HAI rates in effect at the time of the publication, without
further notice.
5. Payment in full for insertion orders is due to HAI no later than
30 days after HAI’s invoice date. Accounts not paid within these
terms are subject to a late-payment finance charge computed
at 2% per month (24% annual percentage rate) on any balance
after due date.
8. Changes to advertising copy must be received by HAI no
later than the materials deadline reflected in the rate card.
If HAI does not receive such changes prior to the materials
deadline, HAI reserves the right to publish previously received
advertisements without changes.
9. HAI shall discard all advertising copy or other materials
provided by Advertiser within one year after publication unless
Advertiser advises HAI otherwise in writing.
10. Advertiser acknowledges and agrees that, with the exception
of advertisements that have been placed according to paid
position premiums, HAI shall have sole discretion to determine
the positioning of any advertisement in an HAI publication and
that requests for preferred placement are not guaranteed.
11. Advertiser’s submission of an advertisement to HAI constitutes
Advertiser’s representation that Advertiser has the right to
publish the contents thereof.
12. Advertiser acknowledges and agrees that no terms or conditions
other than those set forth in these general terms and conditions
for advertising shall be binding on HAI unless an authorized
representative of HAI expressly agrees otherwise in writing.
HAI shall not be bound by conditions appearing on insertion
orders that were placed by anyone other than an authorized
representative of HAI.
13. Advertiser and its agency agree to indemnify HAI and HAI’s
officers, employees, and representatives for any claim, loss,
damage, or expense caused by or arising out of the publication
of Advertiser’s advertisement.
14. HAI shall not be liable for any consequential damages if for any
reason it fails to publish an advertisement. HAI’s sole liability
for any failure to publish an advertisement will not exceed the
cost of the space ordered by the Advertiser.
6. Advertiser acknowledges and agrees that only HAI Regular,
Associate, and Affiliate Members may qualify for HAI member
advertising rates.
15. HAI reserves the right to review contents of advertisements and
to reject or cancel any advertisement, insertion order, space
reservation, or position commitment at any time.
7. A 15% agency discount will be extended to advertising
agencies, provided that full payment is received within 30
days of invoice date. Agency discounts will be withdrawn on
invoices not paid within 30 days.
16. HAI is not liable for nonpublication of advertisements to the
extent nonpublication is due, in whole or in part, to an act of
