RECREATION AND ATHLETICS
HEAD COACH, WOMEN’S BASKETBALL (C1703)

This posting represents a three (3) year full­time contract position.
Scope
Reporting to the Associate Director (Student­Athlete Services) on a daily basis and to the Director of Recreation and
Athletics for long­term sport and program development , the incumbent is responsible for the planning, implementation
and daily oversight of the women’s varsity basketball program including recruiting, training, motivating and mentoring of
the coaching staff, players and support staff.
Primary responsibilities
Prepare team and athletes for competition in manner that allows for the students' physical and mental well­being;
oversee team selection; prepare daily, weekly, monthly and season objectives and evaluation for student­athletes
and the program; prepare video training sessions for student­athletes; provide individual training programs for
student­athletes.
Responsible for team selection, personnel management, team and individual goal setting, creation and
implementation of skills development and physical training plans, mental and game preparation as well as athlete
and program evaluations.
Responsible for recruiting of students with solid academic standing for the basketball program; coordinate the
program’s recruiting efforts and activities by establishing staff recruiting areas and responsibilities, talent
identification tracking, compiling recruiting lists, arranging recruiting visits for home games; travel to other areas to
liaise with potential students for the women’s basketball program.
Hire, supervise and evaluate part­time coaching staff.
Establish and maintain team rules of conduct for program in accordance with department and university policies;
ensure good sportsmanship and ethical behaviour; present a positive image for the student athletes, the University

Support the department in the implementation / execution of an annual academic success plan.
In coordination with the Associate Director, develop a calendar of competition that includes tryout, training camp
and exhibition play while ensuring consistency with team budget, Department and CIS/RSEQ policies.
Work with department administration to establish annual list of needs, program budget and allocation of Athletic
Financial Awards; coordinate inventory and storage of equipment (e.g.: uniforms, equipment, clothing) for the
basketball program; provide an annual recommendation for replacing older equipment; ensure that reports are filed
in a timely fashion.
Attend alumni events; collaborate in communications with alumni; contribute to the overall alumni outreach strategy
for the program.
In coordination with the Associate Director, ensure that student athletes are aware of CIS/RSEQ eligibility
requirements; ensure that all documents required for athlete eligibility are filed on a timely basis.
Assist in an annual evaluation for the purposes of continuing professional development; engage in a minimum of
one ‘approved’ professional development experience/program per year.
Represent the Concordia University women’s basketball program at RSEQ & CIS coaches meetings at league
meetings.
Oversee talent identification, scouting and subsequent recruitment and retention of quality student­athletes; assist
in the scheduling of competitions and travel plans, development of budgets and ensure compliance to all Concordia
and RSEQ/CIS policies and regulations.
Play a leadership role in the development and execution of community outreach programs including, but not limited
to school visits, sports camps and clinics.
Perform other duties in support of the department.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred), in a field relevant to the primary responsibilities and four to seven years of
experience in coaching and administering elite level student­athletes in a basketball setting.
NCCP Level III certification and /or NCCP ‘Train to compete’ certification and / or American/international
equivalent.
Good spoken and written English (Level 4) to communicate effectively with students, staff and external contacts
and Basic spoken and written French (Level 3) preferred to respond to inquiries and communicate with existing and
potential students and external contacts.
Ability to work in a fast­paced university environment.
Possess superior interpersonal, teamwork, organizational, leadership, coaching, and technical skills.
Demonstrate the ability to be able to recruit throughout Quebec and Canada.
