Proper behavior is expected from Peachtree Ridge seniors at all times. Seniors are reminded that they are subject to school rules and regulations while on school property or participating in any school activity. In the last few weeks of school, we would hate to see seniors place themselves in a position that would bring embarrassment to them as well as their family and jeopardize their participation in the commencement ceremonies. 2. Classes WILL be in session during Senior Week, and school dress code policies will be enforced for any senior on school property. Remember – senior week is a privilege, not a right. 3. Students are expected to meet their responsibilities and obligations as members of our school. Seniors are reminded that all delinquent obligations (required credits, class work, fees, senior class dues, media center fines, textbook fines, school parking tickets, uniforms, etc.) are to be taken care of prior to graduation practice. NO GRADUATION TICKETS WILL BE DISTRIBUTED TO A SENIOR WHO HAS A DELINQUENT OBLIGATION. Faculty will be turning in HOLD FORMS to us before tickets are distributed. 4. Tickets will be distributed at GRADUATION PRACTICE. Each senior will receive NINE (9) tickets. Remember – no guest will be admitted to the ceremony without a ticket. (Baby-in-arms = no ticket required.) Additional tickets may be available through the ticket lottery (see the last page of this packet). 5. Commencement ceremonies are conducted in a FORMAL MANNER; therefore, it is important that all seniors be in attendance at graduation practice. ANY senior who does not attend practice or who is late will NOT be permitted to participate in the graduation ceremonies. Notify your employer now that you are required to attend graduation practice on Tuesday, May 19th at 3:00 PM in the Peachtree Ridge Commons. Regular school dress is expected at practice. Practice should be over by 5:00 PM. 6. Professional photographers will be taking pictures at the graduation ceremony. They will contact you about ordering your pictures. During the ceremony, taking pictures will be discouraged. There will not be a place from which good pictures can be taken. Please encourage your parents to limit the pictures they take to those they can take from their seats; wait until after the ceremony for those close-up pictures. A professional videographer will videotape the ceremony and will have DVD’s available for purchase. 7. Parking at the arena will be limited. We have been asked by the arena officials to have you car pool. Leave home in plenty of time because traffic will be heavy. 8. LEAVE ALL ELECTRONICS AT HOME. ALL CELLPHONES, iPODS, MP3 PLAYERS, CAMERAS, etc. will be confiscated before the ceremony. Ladies, do not bring purses inside the arena. 9. Seniors need to report for line-up at 6:00 PM on Wednesday, May 20, inside the arena. Parents will not be allowed in this area. Take pictures before seniors report for line-up. 10. Graduation is a very important time for ALL SENIORS. They have worked very hard to reach this point, and they would like for this to be a very special, dignified, and formal ceremony with APPROPRIATE BEHAVIOR BY ALL THOSE ATTENDING. Only those guests holding tickets will be admitted to the arena. We hope that each guest will observe proper etiquette for the occasion. Thank you for your cooperation. No air horns, beach balls, or balloons are allowed inside the arena. PROPER COMMENCEMENT ATTIRE Remove your gown from its individual package as soon as it is received. Hang it on a hanger; most wrinkles will just fall out. The gown should be approximately ten inches from the floor or mid-calf. The gown can be pressed with a COOL IRON, if needed, before being worn. If you use a hot iron on your gown, it will melt. All graduates will wear the white stole with the school crest. DO NOT iron over the red, printed crest; it will melt off. Flowers and pins are not appropriate on graduation gowns. Caps should be placed on the head so that the mortarboard is level. The front of the cap is indicated on the inside of the crown. For graduation, caps are worn parallel to the ground with the point in the center of the forehead. Caps are never worn on the back of the head. You can affix you cap with bobby pins, if needed. These are one-size-fits-all caps, so even some men may need a few bobby pins. Tassels are positioned on your RIGHT side as you march into the ceremony. Ladies will find it more practical to wear simply styled, lightweight dresses without high necklines or excess skirt fullness. Dressy shoes are required. You may wear dressy flats, closed-toed, or open-toed shoes. FLIP-FLOPS, CASUAL SANDALS, AND TENNIS SHOES ARE NOT ALLOWED. REMEMBER THIS IS A FORMAL OCCASION. Men are to wear a dress shirt under their gown. A white or light colored shirt is appropriate, and you may want to consider a short sleeved shirt. Ties are not required as it prevents the white PRHS stole from sitting flat on your chest. Dark slacks or tan slacks are also to be worn with dress shoes and dark socks. BLUE JEANS, FLIP FLOPS, SANDALS, AND TENNIS SHOES ARE NOT ALLOWED. YOU WILL NOT MARCH IF YOU ARE INAPPROPRIATELY DRESSED, AND YOUR PARENTS WILL BE CALLED FROM THE STANDS TO PROVIDE YOU WITH PROPER ATTIRE BEFORE YOU GO DOWN THE AISLE. This is a formal occasion in front of many guests; all of us at Peachtree Ridge want you to make your family proud on this occasion. They have waited eighteen years (or longer) for this occasion. Senior Letters A Celebration of Our Senior Class of 2015 Senior Letters are an opportunity for the parents, family members, friends, and/or anyone else to recognize and celebrate the accomplishments and character of the members of this year’s senior class. The letters can be a reflection of what the students have done over the years---funny stories, sweet memories of the past---or advice to them as they move towards life beyond high school. This is your opportunity to honor your child in this next move into adulthood. We do want to offer the gentle reminder that the letters need to be school appropriate; this is not the forum for girlfriends and boyfriends to write private notes of love. We are encouraging parents, family members, and friends to write as many notes or letters as they would like. These letters will be collected throughout the next few weeks and delivered to each senior during graduation practice. The letters may be post-cards, small notes, or even typed documents. Please do not enclose any perishables as they will not be delivered until late May. Each letter should be clearly marked with the student’s full name (no nicknames, please) and “SENIOR LETTER.” We do ask, though, that no senior letter be larger than an 81/2”x11” sheet of paper. Starting Monday, April 13, Senior Letters may be delivered to the school. Collection sites will be at the Front Desk, in the Counseling Office, and in the Media Center. If you decide to mail in your Senior Letters, please address it to Mrs. Cindy Crocker and mark the envelope with "SENIOR LETTER" in all capitals as well as the student's complete name (no nicknames) to whom it should be delivered. All letters should be at the school NO LATER THAN Monday, May 4 to allow time for sorting. We want to make sure that each of our seniors gets recognized as a part of this fun and meaningful celebration. Email Mrs. Crocker (Cindy_Crocker @gwinnett.k12.ga.us), if you have questions. SENIOR LOCKER DECORATING WHEN: Monday, April 27, 2015 TIME: 4:30 – 7:30 P.M. WHERE: PRHS ATRIUM LOCKER STRIP DISTRIBUTION: You or your senior may pick up a free locker strip from the front desk beginning Monday, March 2. They will be available until Friday, April 24. Only seniors who have rented a locker this year will be allowed to have a locker strip. Locker strips cannot be hung on the walls. Lockers can still be rented from the 11th grade office in C100 after paying the locker fee on My Payments Plus. RULES FOR LOCKER DECORATING: CAUTION: Before decorating, be sure to locate the top, front of the strip. If you don't, the strip will not fit the locker properly. You should see the letters “TF” in raised dots at the top, front of the strip. If not, be sure the orient the strip as seen in the picture at the right. You must provide all other materials used to decorate the locker strip. Please make sure that the locker strip is decorated before Monday, April 27. The material put on the locker must be appropriate. (No beer ads, tobacco, etc.) Do not put expensive or heirloom items in or on the locker. No Styrofoam peanuts, confetti, or golf balls may be put in the locker. You may leave appropriate surprises in your senior’s locker if he/she has correctly filled out a locker form and turned it in. These forms will be distributed to you on locker night in the atrium area. If a student has not provided a form, I cannot give you his/her locker combination. It may be a good idea to ask your student ahead of time for his/her locker number and combination, just in case. ONLY the locker is to be decorated - not the walls and ceiling above the locker. No balloons are to be attached to the locker strip. If your senior shares a locker, you will need to find out with whom he/she shares and contact that parent. All seniors must only have their parent(s) decorate their assigned lockers. I recommend using adhesive magnetic strips to hang the locker strips on the lockers. DO NOT use doublesided foam tape. I will provide tape for hanging the locker strips on the locker, but NOT magnetic strips. It is recommended that you laminate the locker strip after you decorate it. It helps preserve the strip. The UPS Store located in the Kroger Shopping Center at the corner of Lawrenceville-Suwanee Road and Dean Road will laminate the locker strip and provide the magnetics for just $4.50.
