UNITED METHODIST WOMEN The Susan Lockey Seekers Circle meets the first Wednesday at 10am and The Mary Harvin Discovery Circle meets at 6:15pm also on the first Wednesday of each month from September through June. We try to keep the meeting to an hour. We welcome any of the women of Saint Luke to join us. As you are doing spring cleaning and cleaning out closets, be on the lookout for items suitable for our yard sale on Saturday, June 6th. You can drop items off the week before the yard sale in the Fellowship Hall. Remember, one man's (or woman's) trash is another's treasure. Don't forget to come and shop our yard sale! All Ladies of the church are invited to attend a Salad Supper on Wednesday, June 10th, in the Fellowship Hall. Please come, bring a salad or dessert and bring a friend. IT’S A GIRL! Congratulations to Adam and Maggie McCaskill on the birth of their daughter, Katherine Lynn “Katelynn” McCaskill who was born Saturday, April 18 at 2:05pm. Katelynn weighed 6 lb.13 oz. and was 20” long. Katelynn joins her big brother Drew. The proud grandparents are Eddie and Janet Hunter. Relay for Life Oct. 2, 2015 Scotland High School News from the Maisonpierres We are looking forward to our retirement from UNC Pembroke in May of 2017. Not wanting to be held back by a house that would not sell, we put our Montrose Lane house on sale last May. It sold in about one month and we have been renting a house on Tartan Road for this past school year. Meanwhile, since we have always loved Winston-Salem, NC, we have been looking at houses there. As of March 27, we are homeowners again. Moving day is May 11! Our new address is 4640 Katies Trail, Winston-Salem, NC 27101. Our phone numbers are still the same. Our classes at UNCP for the next two years will all be on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, so we will be staying at the Holiday Inn Express in Pembroke for two nights and spending the remaining nights in WinstonSalem. Our plan is to continue to serve as music directors at Saint Luke, driving from Winston-Salem each Sunday morning and continuing with choir practices on Wednesday evenings. We plan to continue with “Sounds from Saint Luke” concert series for one more year. Beth and Jon OUTREACH United Methodist Men’s (UMM) Update The United Methodist’s Men annual Barbecue sale was a great success. Net profit was over $4,000. Many thanks to all who helped make this a successful event. Money will be used to fund numerous outreaches for Christ. Please see any UMM member if you have a request for funding assistance for any worthwhile endeavor to make Christ better known and glorify Him. Next meeting is Sunday May 17, 2015 at 7:30 AM. We invite all men of the church (including youth!) to attend and enjoy a great breakfast and fellowship. If you are planning to join the ASP mission team this summer, please plan to attend an important meeting on Sunday, May 3 at 3:00 pm, in the Skip Holmes class room. One Parent of teens going on the trip needs to attend this meeting. Money for the trip will be collected that day. Prices for the trip are $310.00 for adults and $155.00 for youth. If you have not signed up but are interested in the trip, please come and sit in on the meeting. Look forward to seeing you on May 3. Church Administration Note: If you would like to have your voice heard OR listen in as decisions are being made, Finance and Church Council will meet Sunday, May 17 with Finance at 6:00pm followed by Church Council at 6:30pm. The ONLY meetings that are “closeddoor meetings” are Staff/Pastor Parish Committee - The Saint Luke Choir will present a small concert at Prestwick Village on Wednesday, May 6 at 6:00pm. All are welcome to come. FOOD PANTRY Nearly 900 lbs. of free bananas and potatoes were transported from Aberdeen just in time for the 90 families served in April. Caring for God's world and offering our best, morning guests are now served breakfast with reusable plates and cups. This simple act of stewardship reduced our waste to just 18% of previous months. I will say it again: Rejoice! 5 Let your gentleness be evident to all. Phil. 4:4—8 When asked what this meant Wednesday night, the youth responded—to be careful what we watch, listen to, read, who we hang out with, where we go…They have all the right answers. We pray that they will fall in love with Christ, their Savior, and have a burning desire to follow Him in all their ways. There is a new cabinet for the trash cans! Scoofer Jordan, Richard Cox and Ronnie Godfrey have been at it again. This time their masterpiece is on wheels! The cabinet matches the color and trim of the walls and not only hides the trash cans, but also provides another countertop in that space. The surface of the countertop is a durable ceramic. The trash cans are larger and now roll out. Thanks to everyone who donated to make this project possible! Just a note on our trip to Dunn March 19 to visit the Averasboro Civil War Battlefield Museum. We drove and drove and out in a vast expanse of land sat a tiny building that totally surprised us by housing fabulous collections and displays of Civil War artifacts. The Hollingsworth’s, proprietors of the Museum, and Mr. Livingston, owner of a Civil War home nearby, shared their extensive knowledge with us. We then had a delightful lunch at The Broadstreet Deli in downtown Dunn. Bo was our trusty driver and despite a grey, rainy day, it was well worth a return visit. We will visit the Indian Museum at Pembroke in April.
