I'd like to thank the boys and girls basketball teams for their
hardwork and efforts. Both teams showed great teamwork,
dedication, enthusiaism and commitment to the game of
basketball as well as to the loyalty of SAJS. Both teams were
successful due to overall team leadership.
The boys team finished the season with a 5-2
record (including the playoffs) to finish second
overall in the JAGAS Championships.
The girls team finished the season with a 7-0
record (including playoffs) to finish first overall in the JAGAS

Let's go and win both the boys and Girls basketball
JAGAS Championships next year!

SCIENCE OLYMPICS
It is also important to remind
our youth that most sports
related
injuries
can
be
prevented by wearing a
mouthguard. Individuals and
families are encouraged to use
a
mouthguard
when
participating in sports at a competitive or recreational level.

Nutrition and a healthy mouth go hand in hand . A healthy
lunch and snack should definitely be part of your child's
regular eating habits. A good nutrition program for your
child includes choosing foods from all four food groups:

On March 6 Grade 6 students took part in the St. F.X. run
“Science Olympics”. Students were divided into 10 teams of
mixed Grade 6 sections and participated in half hour
science-based activities.
The schedule included
Introductory Team Builders, Static
Electricity Races, Car Races, Flight (Paper
Airplanes), Sling Shot Ball Launder, Paper
Helicopters, Electromagnets, Egg Drop,
Paper Plate Toss, Bio-accumulation and
Drag and Closing Activities. Teams cycle
through each of the activities and at the end of the morning
results were as follows:

can help prevent cavities

Yes, fun and Science can go together.
Congratulations to our ‘top’ teams. Many thanks to our
student leaders from St. F. X. for their time and positive
energy which make this venture a great success!

FOOD & YOUR TEETH: Just like our bodies, our teeth
and gums need many essential vitamins and minerals to
stay strong and healthy. In fact, to ensure proper tooth
development and strength, babies, children, adults and
seniors need lots of:

calcium (e.g. yogurt, milk, some cheese)

phosphorous (e.g. egg, beef, chicken, turkey,
halibut, bread)
April is a time to remind ourselves that oral health is an
important part of being healthy overall.
By spending only 6 minutes a day (2 minutes
brushing twice a day and 2 minutes flossing) we
can remove the plaque from our teeth that can
cause serious dental diseases. Remember that
currently in Nova Scotia, youth can receive
dental and dental hygiene services free of
charge until the end of the month in which they turn 15

vitamin A (e.g. liver,
pumpkin, carrots,

spinach, broccoli)

vitamin C (e.g. citrus fruits, cantaloupe,
strawberries, tomatoes, cabbage)


SCHOOL BOARD NEWS
Bring the World Home
The Nova Scotia International Student Program (NSISP) was
founded as a way for students from around the
world to learn more about the language and
culture of Nova Scotia. Since 1997, NSISP has
welcomed thousands of students and has grown
to include over 800 host families in communities
across the province.
Hosting an international student means the opportunity to
bring the world home. The learning you will gain and the
connections you will make will be a life changing experience
for your whole family. When you invite an international
student into your home, you’re not just getting a
houseguest... you’re gaining a family member.
