Click here to view the SaveWilmetteLakefront website, and learn why the Wilmette Park District’s lakefront master plan is fundamentally flawed, and why it’s important to defeat both referendums. Join us in saving the Wilmette Beaches. We are Wilmette residents who wish to defeat the Wilmette Park District Referendums by voting NO on Tuesday, April 7, 2015. Langdon Beach is an untouched natural lakefront and has no need for building structures. It is not necessary to borrow and spend $1.8 million for toilets, staff offices and storage facilities at Langdon Beach. The proposed $2.4 million Gillson Beach House facility and pavilion is more than 50% greater than the current beach house footprint. If the bond referendums fail, the park district still has sufficient funds to build a nature path, and complete the infrastructure and maintenance repairs at Gillson Park. Moreover, in 2016 the park district may have the funds to replace the Gillson Beach House. The Wilmette Park District Capital Project Fund balance is $3.5 million (Dec. 31, 2014), and projected to be nearly $4.0 million by December 2015. Our lakefront is precious. The $14.5 million Lakefront Master Plan should be revised. It’s not too late. We can do better. Below is a cost summary of the entire $14.5 million Lakefront Master Plan document. $14.5 MILLION LAKEFRONT MASTER PLAN BUDGET (AS OF MAY 30, 2014)* 1. Gillson Beach House/Sailing Center/Parking $4,107,000.00 2. Circulation: Vehicle/Bicycle/Pedestrian $2,850,000.00 3. Lakeview Center $1,650,800.00 4. Recreation: Tot Lot, Dog Beach, Shelters, Landscaping $966,344.00 TOTAL GILLSON PARK BUDGET: $11,967,680.00 5. Langdon Park and Beach House Budget $1,314,500.00 *THE TOTAL OF THE 2 REFERENDUMS $14,500,000.00 The Save Wilmette Lakefront citizen-led campaign committee was formed in response to the park district’s release of the Lakefront Master Plan in June 2014. Our goal was to persuade the park district commissioners to “reconsider” the master plan, as evidenced by our Facebook Page, Save Wilmette Beaches, Revise Lakefront Master Plan. Our committee members have attended and presented our objections and suggestions, including completely removing the Langdon Beach House from the plan, for nearly 3 years at park district board and lakefront committee meetings. Nevertheless, the Board voted 7-0 against revising the master plan. As a result, the citizen-led Save Wilmette Lakefront committee modified its objective to defeat the $14.5 million referendums to send the message to the Wilmette Park District Staff and Board that the size, character and cost of their Lakefront Master Plan is too big and too costly for Wilmette residents. Basically, we seek a revised master plan to respect the Wilmette Park District mission statement, “To enrich the quality of community life,….while protecting open space and natural resources for future generations.” Contact: Save Wilmette Lakefront 1144 Chestnut Ave. Wilmette, IL 60091 Web: www.SaveWilmetteLakefront.com Email: SaveWilmetteBeaches@gmail.com WE SEEK A REVISED MASTER PLAN to respect the Wilmette Park District mission statement, “To enrich the quality of community life,….while protecting open space and natural resources for future generations.” WILMETTE LAKEFRONT PARKS GILLSON PARK MASTERPLAN JUNE 17, 2014 WILMETTE LAKEFRONT PARKS GILLSON PARK BEACH HOUSE, PARKING, AND NEW PEDESTRIAN AND BICYCLE ACCESS JUNE 17, 2014 WILMETTE LAKEFRONT PARKS GILLSON PARK BEACH HOUSE AND PAVILION JUNE 17, 2014 WILMETTE LAKEFRONT PARKS GILLSON PARK SAILING CENTER WITH RESTROOMS JUNE 17, 2014 WILMETTE LAKEFRONT PARKS GILLSON PARK LAKEVIEW CENTER JUNE 17, 2014 WILMETTE LAKEFRONT PARKS GILLSON PARK LAKEVIEW CENTER RENOVATED INTERIOR JUNE 17, 2014 WILMETTE LAKEFRONT PARKS GILLSON PARK PICNIC SHELTER JUNE 17, 2014 WILMETTE LAKEFRONT PARKS GILLSON PARK RENOVATED WILDFLOWER GARDEN JUNE 17, 2014 WILMETTE LAKEFRONT PARKS LANGDON PARK MASTERPLAN JUNE 17, 2014 WILMETTE LAKEFRONT PARKS LANGDON PARK BEACH HOUSE JUNE 17, 2014
