VBS3 CALL FOR FIRE AND CLOSE AIR
SUPPORT APPLICATIONS GET UPGRADES
SimCentric Technologies’ Call for Fire and Close Air Support Applications
for VBS3 Receive Performance and Usability Enhancements
Prague — At ITEC 2015, SimCentric Technologies is
demonstrating VBS3 Fires and VBS3 Fires FST for Call for
Fire and Close Air Support training with VBS3.
VBS3 Fires is a Call for Fire training application for VBS3
used to train forward observers, mortar fires officers
and naval gunfire liaison officers. The system simulates
exterior and terminal ballistics to high levels of detail and
supports a wide array of munitions, fuse types and firing
platforms. As VBS3 Fires is built upon VBS3, all of VBS3’s
standard features are included, such as After Action
Review and the Real Time Editor.
VBS3 Fires FST is a new training application that
combines the Call for Fire elements of VBS3 Fires and
adds Close Air Support training functionality, aimed at
training forward air controllers (FACs) and Joint Terminal
Attack Controllers (JTACs). The Close Air Support engine
supports the semi-autonomous control of aircraft. No
dedicated pilot is required to operate a VBS3 Fires FST
training scenario. Instead, a sophisticated artificial
intelligence engine pilots aircraft. This frees the instructor
from concentrating on flying an aircraft and allows them
to focus on training.
“We have completely redesigned these applications
for closer integration with VBS3,” said Adam Easton,
SimCentric Technologies’ CEO. “We’ve maintained all of
the workflows and flexibility of these applications, but
made them more streamlined. For example, we have
embedded the call-for-fire and close air support briefs
directly inside VBS3 so trainees no longer have to worry
