All Regular Classes are divided by sex and are offered for all AKC breed or
varieties of breed as specified in Rules Applying to Dog Shows Chapter 3,
Section 1 unless otherwise noted below. Where classes are further divided
by color, weight or other breed characteristics, it is so indicated below and
the class division MUST be indicated on the entry form.
OPEN CLASSES ARE DIVIDED for the following breeds only:
Labrador Retrievers: Black, Chocolate, Yellow.
Boxers: Brindle, Fawn.
Doberman Pinschers: Black, AOAC.
Great Danes: Brindle, Fawn, AOAC.
Miniature Schnauzers: Black (incl. Black & Silver), Salt & Pepper.
Collies (Rough): Blue Merle, Sable & White, Tricolor, White.
Shetland Sheepdogs: Sable & White, AOAC
MISCELLANEOUS BREEDS: There will be Puppy and Open Classes for each of
the Miscellaneous Breeds in each sex.
Bred by Exhibitor (BBE) Class eligibility (revised 09/02)
All dogs entered in the Bred by Exhibitor Class must be individually
registered with the AKC.
The person handling the dog must be a breeder of record of the dog
and an owner of record of the dog.
To exhibit in this class, family members must be a breeder and
owner of record.
Basset Hounds and Bulldogs are expected to be judged on a ramp. At the
discretion of the judge, the following breeds may be judged on a ramp:
Clumber Spaniels, Sussex Spaniels, Basset Hounds, Whippets, Staffordshire
Bull Terriers, Bulldogs & Chow Chows. Ramps may be used in emergency
situations to judge any breed. (In an emergency situation, an exhibitor does
have the option of withdrawing their entry and receiving a refund.)

Best Puppy in Show Competition
Saturday, April 25
This competition allows the puppy class winners in each breed to be judged
following Best of Breed/Variety judging to determine Best Puppy. An entry
in the Puppy Class that is awarded Best of Breed/Variety or Best of Winners
will automatically be Best Puppy for that breed/variety. All Best Puppy
Breed/Variety Winners will then compete in their respective group.
The First Place winners of the Puppy Group Competition will then compete
for Best Puppy in Show.

AKC National Owner-Handled Series
Sunday, April 26
The AKC National Owner-Handled Series is a non-titling competition for dogs that
are exhibited by their owners who are not professional handlers.
To be eligible to enter, exhibitors must declare their dog is AKC Owner-Handler
eligible at the time of entry using the check box on the entry form.
All dogs that are owner-handled and are not exhibited by professional handlers
meet the requirements for this competition. Dogs co-owned by a professional
handler or members of their household are eligible as long as the professional
handler or household member does not exhibit the dog during eligible competition.
Definition Professional Handler: Persons who 1) have represented themselves as
handling dogs for pay within the last 5 years, 2) belong or have belonged to a
professional handlers’s association or 3) have distributed rate cards meet AKC’s
definition of a professional handler and therefore may not enter in this
competition.
Please note:
Dogs must be handled throughout the competition by an eligible owner of
record.
Professional handlers, household members and assistants to current
professional handlers may not exhibit the dog in any breed competition
during the entire show.
Owner-Handled Best of Breed will be selected from the dogs that are
eligible to compete in the Best of Breed competition including Winners
Dog, Winners Bitch and undefeated winners of the non-regular classes.
Dogs declared eligible will be identified by an asterisk in the show catalog.
Ineligible entries will be removed from competition.
There is no additional cost but exhibitors must indicate on the entry that they are
eligible for NOHS. For more information on the AKC National Owner-Handled series,

Breed judging for the AKC National Owner-Handled Series is conducted following
Best of Breed judging in each breed ring. All dogs in the BOB competition (including
WD & WB) will stay in the ring after the judge makes their placements in BOB
competition. The ring steward will ask all professional handlers, household
members of and current assistants to a professional handler, and any exhibitor that
did not indicate on their entry that they were eligible for the AKC National OwnerHandled Series to leave the ring and then the judge will then select the OwnerHandled Best of Breed. A dog being “cut” or otherwise “defeated” in the Best of
Breed ring remains eligible to compete in the AKC National Owner-Handled Series.
The Owner-Handled Best of Breed will be selected from the eligible exhibits based
on the program guidelines and procedures.

The Wild Card classes are non-titling events for any dog that is
capable of performing the corresponding exercises and that is eligible
under the Obedience Regulations to compete in AKC events. No title
is required to enter any of the classes, and handlers may enter more
than one dog.
The exercises will be performed and judged as in the regular classes,
except that verbal praise during the exercises is to be encouraged and
not penalized – except during the signal exercises in the Utility class.
(Good, yes, nice, super, great and atta boy are some examples of
praise that would be allowed.) Handlers may give additional
commands, but they will be penalized accordingly.
Each handler may choose to select one exercise as a wild card. The
exhibitor will have the option of performing the selected wild card
exercise, but will receive the full point value regardless of how the
dog performs. The handler must inform the steward or judge which
exercise will be used as the wild card upon checking in.

Dogs May Arrive any time prior to their scheduled time of judging. Dogs not
required for further Judging will be excused.
Judges Will Not Wait for Any Dog Holding Up a Class. Owners or agents alone are
responsible for the presence of their dogs in judging ring when their classes are
called to be judged.
Four Day Catalogs will be available at the catalog/trophies table or pre-paid with
entry for $10.00.
All Dogs Present must be held on leash or confined to their crates except when
being judged or when in the exercising ring.
Exhibitors must be governed by any rules or regulations of civil authorities and/or
local restrictions.
The Show-giving Club, the Show Secretary, their agent, employees, etc. assume
no responsibility for contents left in vehicles, for any loss, damage or injury
sustained by exhibitors, handlers or to any of their dogs or property and further
assumes no responsibility for injury to children.
Do not leave dogs unattended in rooms or cars. You are responsible for any
damage you or your dogs do. Please clean up after exercising your dogs.
Puppies or dogs not entered will not be allowed on premises. No exception.

Exhibitors should follow their veterinarian’s recommendation to assure their
dogs are free of internal and external parasites, any communicable diseases,
and have appropriate vaccinations. Local health requirements: proof of
rabies vaccination.
Please keep your grooming area clean and make sure to clean up after your
dog.
Dogs may not be bathed in the restrooms sinks. Please bathe dogs
in the designated dog wash station sponsored by Davis with their
pet products.

AKC Junior Handler Numbers are now required for entry in Junior Showmanship

NOVICE JUNIOR CLASS: For Boys and Girls who are at least 9 years and under 12
years old on the day of the show and who, at the time entries close, have not won
three First Places, with competition present, in a Novice Class at a licensed or
member show.
NOVICE INTERMEDIATE CLASS: Boys and Girls who are at least 12 years old and
under 15 years old on the day of the show and who, at the time entries close, have
not won three First Places, with competition present, in a Novice Class at a licensed
or member show.
NOVICE SENIOR CLASS: For Boys and Girls who are at least 15 years and under 18
years old on the day of the show and who, at the time entries close, have not won
three First Places, with competition present, in a Novice Class at a licensed or
member show.
OPEN JUNIOR CLASS: For Boys and Girls who are at least 9 years and under 12 years
old on the day of the show and who, at the time entries close, have won three First
Places, with competition present, in a Novice Class at a licensed or member show.
OPEN INTERMEDIATE CLASS: Boys and Girls who are at least 12 years old and under
15 years old on the day of the show and who, at the time entries close, have won
three First Places, with competition present, in a Novice Class at a licensed or
member show.
OPEN SENIOR CLASS: For Boys and Girls who are at least 15 years and under 18
years old on the day of the Show and who, at the time entries close, have won

OBEDIENCE TRIAL CLASSES and AKC RALLY® (Each Day)
Qualifying Score Required for All Prizes in Regular Classes
"Dog" means either sex
No dog under 6 months of age may compete.
Females in season are not permitted to compete. If a female is withdrawn from
Obedience and/or Rally competition because it came into season and the event
secretary is notified no later than ½ hour prior to the start of the first class in the
trial, the club will refund the entry fee minus a processing fee of $4.00 per day of
entry. The handler must document the withdrawal of the female in season in
writing.
The judge will not disclose any scoring until the entire class has been judged.
Praise and petting are allowed between and after exercises, but points will be
deducted for a dog that is not under reasonable control while being praised. There
will be a substantial penalty for any dog that is picked up or carried at any time in
the obedience ring while under judgment. A dog is under judgment until it leaves
the ring. However, a dog may be picked up and carried into the ring for the award
ceremony if the handler desires.
A Dark Green Qualifying Score Ribbon will be awarded to each dog attaining a
qualifying score.
In Rally Classes, the team of dog and handler move continuously and perform the
exercises indicated by a sign at each location. After the judge's "Forward"
command, the team is on its own to complete the entire sequence correctly.
Unlimited communication from the handler to the dog between signs is to be
encouraged and not penalized.
The size of the ring will be: 40 ft x 50 ft.
RALLY LEVEL 1: On-Lead with 12 to 15 stations.
PLEASE NOTE: Transfers (formerly move-ups) will be permitted in Obedience and
Rally. The request for a transfer must be in writing and presented to the
superintendent or trial secretary at least 30 minutes prior to the start of each trial.
All classes in Obedience and Rally in which jumps are used will be arranged in
ascending order beginning with the lowest height or in descending order beginning
with the tallest height at the judge’s discretion.
