MARCH 22: World Water Day
MAY - SEPTEMBER: Barefoot Wine Beach Rescue Project

AUGUST 1 - 31: Rise Above Plastics (RAP) Month (tentative)
World Water Day (WWD): a global observance of our planet’s most precious
resource
•
Celebrated on March 22
•
Highlights various water related issues such as urban runoff, water
conservation, wetland preservation, near shore water quality
•
Supports Surfrider Foundation programs such as Blue Water Task Force,
Ocean Friendly Gardens and Know Your H2O
Barefoot Wine Beach Rescue Project (BWBRP): a nationwide initiative in
partnership with Barefoot Wine to keep our beaches “barefoot-friendly” through
beach cleanup and restoration events

Observed throughout Summer: May - September
•
Highlights various chapter led campaigns and provides fund support
•
In early January, Chapters will be invited to participate by helping host a
beach cleanup or restoration event
•
After cleanup event volunteers ages 21+ are invited to attend a
celebration (coordinated by Barefoot and their PR company Hunter PR)
featuring complimentary surf-inspired fare and Barefoot Wine, as well as
live music at select locations.
•
Templates will be provided for chapter use and reference: Sample talking
points, media alert template, frequently asked questions and more
•
Complimentary Barefoot Wine and Bubbly product available upon
request for Chapters with 30 days advance notice throughout the year.

Hands Across The Sand (HATS): A global grassroots event in support of
protecting our coasts from offshore drilling.
•
Celebrated on May 17th at beaches and parks around the world
•
Participants join hands for 15 minutes at noon local time
•
Chapters/members are encouraged to organize local events in their
community
•
Turn-key event can be combined with beach clean up, membership
recruitment, BBQ, etc.
•
HQ will provide resources on Chapternet and www.nottheanswer.org
•

International Surfing Day (ISD): a global celebration of the sport of surfing
while raising awareness for our oceans, waves and beaches.
•
Celebrated on June 20
•
Highlights the sport of surfing while raising awareness for ocean
protection
•
Surfrider Foundation Chapters, Organizing Committees and Affiliates are
invited to host event activations on ISD including beach cleanups, dune
restorations, concerts, movie nights, trash art projects and more
•
Digital event kits will be provided to participating locations, including
downloadable graphics, poster, media alert, etc.
•
Resources will be provided on Chapternet: Sample talking points, social
media messaging, press template, media alert, frequently asked
questions, event flyer template, and more
(Tentative) Rise Above Plastics (RAP) Month: a month-long effort to raise
awareness of the dangers of plastic pollution
•
Tentatively celebrated August 1 – 31 in 2015
•
Supports Surfrider Foundation’s Rise Above Plastics program
•
Special membership offer available throughout the month of October;

Featured activity: Plastic cleanup events and art trash project contest
