abound in your life and our community with this act of love.

Monday, May 13th was Holy Spirit’s Annual
Awards Ceremony. What a wonderful day to
be able to celebrate so many student successes
of our 2014-2015 school year. We are so proud
of how our students consistently represent our
school. We are thankful for our students!
There were too many awards to be able to list
them all. Most awards have been documented
in past newsletters and/or website.
Congratulations to all who were honored at the
ceremony!!
Four seventh grade students were honored at the awards ceremony on Monday. Jimmy, Amy G.,
Warren and Jam participated in the 2015 Duke University Talent Identification Program’s 7th grade
talent search. This program identifies 7th graders based on standardized test scores and invites
them to take the ACT or the SAT college entrance exam. This then allows them greater insight into their academic abilities. Congratulations, students!!
Knights of Columbus Vocation Poster Contest Winners
The annual poster contest theme this year was: We are on a Mission from God. Our four parish winners
were: Ellie grades 7/8, Quintin grades 5/6, Valerie grades 3/4 and Catherine for grades 1/2.
All four had designed amazing posters which will be hanging in the cafeteria soon!
Valerie, our parish winner for grades 3/4, was also the District 8 winner. District 8 includes multiple parishes.
As a District winner, her poster entered the Archdiocesan competition. Her poster was on a mission, and
Valerie went on to become the Archdiocesan winner for grades 3/4. A BIG Way to GO!!!!
FYI– Next week will be the last newsletter of the 2014-2015 school year. It will include information for next year plus some happenings from this week. Next week
look for our primary spelling bee winners, our Gala Principal for a Day, etc. So much
is going on, but I will try to capture as much of the action as possible. Thank you!

Eighth Grade spent time on their last day sharing
a good-bye with Fr. Storey.
Eighth Grade also spent time on their last day
with their Kindergarten buddies. The 8th graders enjoyed sharing the storybooks they created over Manifest Destiny.
Wanted……... whole group, or group (families/friends) photos of our graduating 8th graders at

way to learn more about the body.
Will you help Holy Spirit School earn $20,000?
The Holy Spirit Parents’ Association will be organizing the 14th Annual Holy Spirit Parish Garage Sale this year. This is the primary Holy Spirit parent fundraiser for the year
and will take approximately 875 parent volunteer hours to accomplish. We are asking every Holy Spirit parent to work at least 2 hours during the sale.
Last year’s garage sale profited $14,501 for the school with an additional $5,000 going
to the Holy Spirit Youth Group. The profits helped to purchase 30 new iPads, 30 new
Chromebooks, 30 new laptops, and an iPad mini for each classroom. This year the
money will go to an additional 30 additional Chromebooks estimated to cost $10,000
and to help fund teacher development requirements at Holy Spirit in the amount of
$4,500.
Set up for the Garage Sale will begin on Saturday, May 23rd and volunteers are needed May 23rd through May 30th from 8 am to 9 pm many of those days. Please take a
look at the volunteer sign up at
http:hscatholic.ivolunteer.com/event_gs_2015
and sign up to help. Thanks!

Dear Parents/Guardians:
As we move into these last few days of school, we look back in disbelief at how quickly
the year has gone by. We have all worked diligently and great growth has been seen academically, spiritually, emotionally, and physically. It is now time for us to rest and renew.
This week, we will say good-bye to Mrs. Palcher who is retiring, Mrs. Emily Schmitz who
will be a full-time mom to baby Declan, and Mrs. Brekke who is moving on to St. Agnes School.
We are excited to announce that Mrs. Taylor Loftus, a recent Benedictine graduate, student teacher at Holy Spirit and long-term substitute for Mrs. Schmitz has agreed to remain in 6th
grade next year. She has done an excellent job stepping in for Mrs. Schmitz, and I know that she
will be a great addition to our teaching staff. We also are happy to say that Mrs. Gloria Schukman,
who has been both a teacher in our Learning Center, middle school, and a teaching assistant, will
be moving on to 4th grade where she will partner with Mrs. Mendoza next year. Mrs. Schukman
has a wonderful way with the children, and I believe she will be just what the children need as
they transition to the “big hallway” and 4th grade! Please join us in welcoming these women to
our school next year.
Finally, it looks like Mr. Miller will not return to school prior to his official retirement day.
He will be having another surgery on the May 21st, so we ask that you keep him and his family in
your prayers. I have spoken with Steve and have assured him that we will have a retirement party
for him when we return in August, thus allowing him time to fully recover from these unexpected
surgeries. Please be on the lookout for a day/time after school resumes for the children and families to say good-bye to a gentle soul who has graced our halls with 28 years of service.
Before you know it, it will be noon on Wednesday, and good-byes for the summer will be
said throughout the building. Please remember that tomorrow (Monday) is Field Day. Children
are to be out of uniform and Spirit shirts are preferred. Join us for our end of year Mass on
Wednesday at 8:30 am in the Church. We will give thanks for a terrific year and say “Good Bye”
to Fr. Storey. Then, it will be off to the annual Talent Show and the final dismissal bell!
Until then, please know that prayers for God’s peace are always coming your way,
Michele Watson
Principal
