A Message From Our Principal
Greetings Greyhound Family,
Another successful year is about to come to a close, as we celebrate the outstanding efforts all of our students have put forth in academics,
sports, the arts, as well as the many competitions and events they have participated in throughout the year.
I would like to take this opportunity to say, “Congratulations to the Class of 2015!” Graduation will be held on Thursday, May 28, 2014 at 7:00
PM at the SLC Fairgrounds. We look forward to seeing all of our senior parents, families and friends at the commencement exercises as we
honor and recognize all of our seniors for their hard work and accomplishments.
As a reminder, please be sure to pay close attention to this month’s calendar, as there are still many events that are taking place this month that
you may need to be aware of such as our Senior Awards Ceremony on May 19th and our High School and Middle School Awards Ceremonies
on May 21st.
We are also continuing with testing, such as the End-of-Course exams for Algebra I, Geometry, Biology, Algebra 2, US History, Civics, along
with Advanced Placement and IB exams.
I want to thank all of our students, teachers and staff members for all of their hard work and dedication this year. The administrative team is
very proud of the work we’ve accomplished and the foundation we have laid as a team to ensure our continued success in the future. I would
also like to thank our parents and stakeholders. We could not have made it through the school year without all of your support. It is appreciated
immensely by us all!

News from the International Baccalaureate MYP & Diploma Programme Department
Dear IB Parents and Students,
May is the month we have been looking forward to all year. IB exams will take place from May 4-22, 2015. All juniors and seniors
have been provided with a copy of the exam schedule which includes the exam dates, report time, and length of time for each test.
In an effort to support peak performance for these exams we are advising students to report to their scheduled classes until it is time
to report for the exam of the day. After the exam of the day, students should plan to report back to class to review for the exams that
will follow. It is critical that students maintain academic focus during the entire testing window. Our students have invested great
effort and many hours to ensure success in achieving their goals. We wish them the best! Students, please remember to eat well and
get the proper rest before each exam. Also, remember that IB does not permit make-up exams so all students must be present for all
exams.
Juniors have just a few assignments left to complete this month. The Extended Essay draft #1, (3,500-4,000) is due on May 7th, and
the CAS check will be on May 15th. Biology lab notebooks are due May 28th, and students should have their World Literature
work complete by May 29th.
MYP students from grades 6-8 will enjoy many activities throughout the month of May. Some activities include the Middle School
Talent Show, the MS Spirit week, and the 8th grade dance. These activities have been designed to allow our students a time to
laugh, enjoy friends, and celebrate the successes they have achieved this year. It is a pleasure to observe our students interact with
one another and truly utilize the IB Learner Profile traits as they participate in the final days of the school year.

Ambassadors is a newly forming group of volunteers who want to be more involved at Lincoln Park Academy. There are many ways to get
involved. Whether you can spare a few hours to volunteer at events, serve on a committee, or even donate needed items or funds to the

News from the Guidance Department
Testing News: EOC, AP, IB testing and senior final exams will take place during the month of May. Student be sure you know
when and where you will be testing. , Please check the postings in the halls and the cafeteria and see your teachers with any
questions.
First time Dual Enrollment students: Students, please see your counselor if you are unsure of the dual enrollment process. You
may see the guidance clerk, Mrs. Salvador, if you need to make a one-on-one appointment with your counselor. Enrollment is open
for Summer I, Summer II and Fall classes.
Seniors: The final date to complete classes on Florida Virtual School is May 8th. Please be sure that classes are complete and
grades are recorded in time for graduation.
Seniors: There are still scholarship opportunities available, see your counselor for more information. If you have not met the
requirements for Bright Futures in community service hours or required test scores, continue to work. You will have until
graduation to meet these requirements.
Juniors: It is time to explore the websites of potential universities/colleges, and visit if possible. Plan on taking the ACT or SAT
in the Spring of your Junior year.
Rising Seniors: Register and take the SAT and/or ACT this year if you have not yet done so. Continue exploring potential
universities/colleges. Work on your ACT/SAT skills to re-take the tests in the Fall if needed, seek out internships, volunteer work,
employment or register to take a class over the summer. The previous items will help your chances of being accepted into the
college of your choice.
Current Seniors: If you have scheduled your university/college orientation prior to graduation, you will need to request a copy of
your transcript to take with you in order to schedule your college classes. Do not be concerned that your transcript is not the final
one, colleges understand. They will be able to see your courses in progress to help determine your registration for college classes.
Middle Schools Students: Course selection cards and information about classes will be presented in your classroom by your
middle school counselor in the coming weeks. Course selection cards will be distributed at that time. If there are any questions or
concerns, you may contact the middle school counselor.
According to Florida Statute, nominations are being accepted for 2015-2017 SAC Board Members. Nominations will be open
until the time of election which will take place on Thursday, May 21st @ 2:00pm in the LPA Media Center.

Congratulatory News Continued
From the Middle School Science Department
Over spring break, four students from LPA Middle School traveled to Lakeland for the Florida's State Science Fair. Congratulations to Callie Zheng,
Yanan Lin, Shreya Reddy, and Nicholas Stange on all of their hard work and accomplishments. Callie Zheng and Yanan Lin placed third in the Junior
Microbiogy category, and won the Florida Agriculture in the Classroom special award. Nicholas Stange won the Pinellas County Regional special award,
and Shreya Reddy had honorable mention in the Junior Zoology category and won the Florida Entomological Society and US Department of Agriculture
special awards. "

Congratulations to the Wind Symphony for the following accomplishments in March:
Jazz Ensemble: Straight superior ratings at State Music Performance Assessment.
Wind Ensemble: Straight superior ratings at District Music Performance Assessment.
Woodwind Choir: Superior rating at State Music Solo & Ensemble Assessment.
The following awards were earned at the Festival Disney Competition:
Wind Symphony: Straight superior ratings, Best in Class and 1st place Gold.
Jazz Ensemble: Straight superior ratings and 2nd place silver.
Congratulations to all Wind Symphony members who participated in the District and State Solo & Ensemble Festival. 103 superiors were earned at District
S&E and 32 were earned at State S&E. Keep up the great work!
The Wind Symphony, Jazz Ensemble and Percussion Ensemble will be performing their Spring Concert on April 30th at 6:30pm in the LPA Performing
Arts Center. The Wind Ensemble will be performing at the State Concert Music Performance Assessment on May 1st at Vero Beach High School. Good
luck!
On April 10, the Middle School Concert Band received a Superior Rating and third place in the Music USA Festival Competition at Universal Studios,
Orlando.

2015 Health Science Summer Academy Announcement
Indian River State College is currently accepting applications for the 2015 Health Science Academy. The IRSC Health Science Academy enables high
school students the opportunity to explore careers in the health sciences through hands-on activities and interactive exercises in a relaxed academic atmosphere. During this 3 weeks program, students will be exposed to many of the fastest-growing careers in the State which include Physical Therapist Assistant,
Emergency Medical Services, Nursing, Medical Lab Technician, Radiography, Pharmacy Technician, Surgical Technician, Dental & Respiratory Care.
Students may earn 82 college clock-hours in “Introduction to Health Care” and “CPR Certification” upon the successful completion of the Academy.

Exciting News! Lincoln Park Academy is teaming up with Treasure Coast High School and the St Lucie Education Foundation (501c3) for the
2nd Annual St. Lucie Project Graduation 2015!
Project Graduation is a nationally recognized program that emerged in 1980. It was conceived by a group of parents in Oxford Hills, Maine,
who worked with The Department of Education’s Division of Alcohol and Drug Education Services, the Bureau of Safety, and their community
to create the program which is now considered to be the National Prototype. Due to rising statistics of teen under-the-influence deaths and
accidents on graduation night, these parents wanted to offer high school seniors a drug-, alcohol- and tobacco-fee graduation celebration that is
free, fun, exciting and safe!
This year’s celebration will be held in the Treasure Coast High School Courtyard on Saturday, May 30th @ 9:30pm—1:30am.
All seniors are invited. There will be games, activities, food/drinks, a DJ and lots of prizes! Students purchase admission tickets with a $20
deposit. Deposits will be returned to students when they arrive at the event. So admission is free to seniors!
VOLUNTEERS ARE NEEDED to help make this annual event a success for our kids. Help is need for the following:
* Check – in booth
* Running a booth or activity during the event (paired with other volunteers)
* Serving refreshments
* Set up/clean up
* Helping to fundraise, sell $20 graduation signs, and collect donations of gifts, prizes or cash

8th grade dance:
May 16, 2015 @ 7:00pm—10:00pm. To help students better prepare, the following dress code will be strickly enforced:
Ladies must wear shoes with a back strap, a dressy pant outfit, a floor length maxi sundress or a floor length skirt outfit that is not strapless or backless. NO
MULTILENGTH SKIRTS OR DRESSES WILL BE ALLOWED! NO FORMALS! Shoulders must be covered and may not show too much cleavage
and the back of the dress or blouse must not be lower than the bottom of the shoulder blades.
Gentlemen must wear dress pants and a shirt with a tie. NO JEANS OR SNEAKERS MAY BE WORN.

Lincoln Park Academy
Bullying has been identified as a major concern by schools across the U.S.
Therefore, to reduce bullying, we are encouraging parents to not only talk with our children about bullying and expectations about behavior, but also review
the district’s policy on bullying. A Power Point presentation is available for all parents to view on our school’s website at http://schools.stlucie.k12.fl.us/lpa/.
We encourage all parents to view this presentation as it may answer many questions parents may have regarding our response to bullying. However, should
you have any further questions or concerns, please feel free to contact the school. Remember, together we can stop bullying. For additional information,
parents can look through the Student Code of Conduct as well, which is available on the district website
Tardy Sweeps
In an effort to reduce the increased amount of tardies, Lincoln Park Academy has instituted the
implementation of “Tardy Sweeps.”
If a student is not in class after the late bell has rung,
he/she will be issued a Detention Notice, whereby the student will be required to serve a lunch
detention on the same day of the infraction. If the infraction occurs after lunch, then the student will be required to
serve the detention the following day. The policy also applies to students who come to school late and have to sign in
unless they have a viable excuse for the tardy.
Leaving School Early
Parents: If your son or daughter has to leave school before 1:34 p.m., please send a note to school with your child
containing the following information:
1) Child’s name
2) Time leaving
3) A phone number to reach you
Sending in a note with your child will not only help the teachers plan accordingly, but it will also help you as it will
reduce the amount of waiting time when you come to pick up your child.
PLEASE ALSO KEEP IN MIND, students under the age of 18 are not permitted to sign themselves out of school for
any reason, even if they have a signed note. A parent/guardian must physically sign the student out of school.

Parking Reminder
At Lincoln Park Academy, driving to school and parking on campus is a privilege limited to juniors and seniors with good behavior, regular attendance and
strong academic achievement. Parking is limited; therefore, in order to apply for parking privilege for the 2014-2015 school year, all students must meet the
following requirements:
 Maintain a 2.5 unweighted cumulative grade point average
 Have no more than FIVE (5) combined tardies and absences. Excused and unexcused absences and tardies are added together. If your student’s
attendance total is six or more, he/she is not eligible for parking - regardless of being a dual-enrollment student or not.
 Parking and dual-enrollment are not mutual programs.
 Complete an application and provide current drivers license, registration, and insurance for the vehicle to be driven
 Display LPA school issued decal in window of vehicle at all times
 Only the student named in the application, with drivers license and insurance of record may drive and park the decaled vehicle on campus
 Must park in assigned spot
 Only the vehicle registered to the decal may be parked in the assigned spot
The following may result in the loss of parking privilege at LPA:
 Violating any of the above requirements
 Attempting to leave or leaving campus without permission
 Having more than three referrals in one nine week period
 Having more than five (5) absences and/or tardies, in one marking period.
 Taking students off campus during the school day.
Wreckless / careless driving in the parking lot
Loss of parking will be determined at the time of the infraction by the Dean or HS Administration. If parking is revoked, it will be immediate and will continue through the following nine week period. If after parking is revoked, your vehicle is parked on campus, it is subject to towing. After an
infraction and/or absent (tardy) free nine week period, the student may reapply for reinstatement of privileges should a spot become available.
