Dear Parent/Guardian, March 25, 2015 As we prepare for Holy Week, reflect on these words from Pope Francis, “Help one another. This is what Jesus teaches us. This is what I do. And I do it with my heart. I do this with my heart because it is my duty, as a priest and bishop I must be at your service. But it is a duty that comes from my heart and a duty I love. I love doing it because this is what the Lord has taught me. But you too must help us and help each other, always. And thus in helping each other we will do good for each other.” Once again, we have been given a wonderful opportunity to welcome a student from Bangkok, Thailand. Nanae will be spending a couple of months in Mr. Andre’s 7th grade class. We are delighted to share St. Hilary with her and begin a unique friendship that can last a lifetime. The 2nd grade First Communicants and their parents enjoyed a lovely retreat last Saturday in preparation for their First Communion in May. The children made bread, created an antependium, and participated in other activities. Please continue to pray for them as they prepare to receive this Blessed Sacrament. Yesterday your child had their spring picture taken. This year each child had their individual picture taken and a sibling photo as well. After Easter break you will receive the proof form, you will be given directions on how to go online to choose the background. These orders are due back a week later. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact the school office. Our very own Mrs. Elaine Schaid, author of “Grandma and…Powder Puff” and a member of the St. Hilary Women’s Club will be one of the guest readers at Budlong Woods Library on April 13th. See the flyer in today’s envelope. We continue to ask for your support and donations of #1 plastic and non-alcoholic aluminum cans as we continue with our PepsiCo Recycling Challenge. This contest is completed at the end of April. We are currently in 8th place in the country. The monetary prize could be extremely beneficial to our school and we are helping our Earth as well. Don’t forget to tell a friend about St. Hilary and as a thank you, you will receive a $100.00 tuition credit on your December tuition statement pending enrollment of the referred family. Your testament to St. Hilary School is priceless and we truly appreciate your continued support and dedication! Help us spread the Good News about all that we have to offer our children. **Mark your calendars – June 6th will be the St. Hilary Annual Community Fest. This year we will have our Grand Raffle at the Community Fest! More information will be coming. Northeastern Illinois University’s Department of Literacy Education and our outreach literacy center will be accepting students (grades 1-12) from neighborhood schools who need individualized support in reading. Each student is asked to bring a $1 minimum donation for this cause. Students will receive a small bowl of chicken broth soup, a slice of bread, and a cup of water. No other food will be served in the cafeteria. If a student requires a heartier lunch due to medical needs, they may bring their own lunch on this day. Students will also hear a presentation about our call to serve others, especially those in our city who are struggling. We hope our Silent Lunch will be a meaningful event for the students of St. Hilary. We thank you in advance for your support and cooperation. Artsonia manages school art galleries in a safe and educational manner, developing students’ pride and selfesteem and involving parents and relatives in student arts education. We need your permission to include your child’s artwork on our school’s web gallery on Artsonia. I invite you to view the site and learn about the terms and conditions. The privacy tab has information about how the site is used and what they do with the information schools provide. http://www.artsonia.com/ I am sending this letter home ahead of entering my student roosters. Once the roosters are entered a permission slip can be generated just for your child and you can go online and grant permission from there. Your child will then have their own screen name and login to Artsonia. Once work is photographed and placed in the Gallery you can view the works and buy products with you child’s work on them if you would like. The school has a chance to win prizes in competitions online and receives proceeds from our artwork sales. Please contact me if you have any concerns or would like more information at rhodes@sthilarychicago.org . I grant permission to show my child’s artwork on Artsonia in accordance with Artsonia’s Terms and conditions of use.
