Message from OC
Dear SCORAngels,
It is with great pleasure that, as the National Officer on Sexual and Reproductive Health
including HIV/AIDS, I invite you to participate in SCORA X-Change Portugal 2015,
between the 5th and 25th of July in Lisbon and Porto.
It is an amazing feeling to present you, and for the first time, an ANEM/PorMSIC
proposal for the SCORA X-Change program.
The SCORA X-Change Portugal 2015 is an unique opportunity for the participants and
also for our Standing Committee. We have been working hard along the years to create
rich and worthy activities within our NMO. Based on all that experience, this year we
can open them externally and provide you a wide, rewarding and true SCORA project.
It is very important for us to harbour and facilitate debates on Sexual and Reproductive
Health issues, receiving participants from different cultural backgrounds that share with
us the same passion and vision to improve population’s health, each step at a time.
And of course, we couldn’t forget about the social program. Portugal is a country well
known for its people and the warm welcoming that characterizes us, and believe that
that is true for all the SCORAngels that are part of the Organizing Committee.
Let’s sail and colour the world together!
Warm Regards,
Lucas Rocha Lopes

With this SCORA X-Change, you will live the true Portuguese experience while
learning more about Sexual and Reproductive Health.
About ANEM/PorMSIC
ANEM/PorMSIC is the Federation that aggregates the local Student’s
Associations of all eight Portuguese Medical Schools, legally representing more than
12.000 medical students of Portugal. ANEM, across borders known as Portuguese
Medical Students’ International Committee (PorMSIC), also represents the Portuguese
medical students internationally being, since its foundation in 1983, a full-member of
the International Federation of Medical Students’ Associations (IFMSA).
The main activity of ANEM is related to the problems of Medical Education that
affect medical students. Besides this major goal, we also envision projects that tackle
issues related to Public Health, Reproductive Health and AIDS, Human Rights and
Peace, Science at the same time that we organize more than one thousand short summer
medical clerkships in hospital departments, fertility clinics and NGO’s.
DSRS – Our Portuguese acronym for SCORA
ANEM/PorMSIC’s Standing Committee on Reproductive Health and AIDS
(DSRS) emerged to promote and raise awareness among medical students about Sexual
and Reproductive Health and AIDS, therefore organizing activities, exchange of ideas
and projects that empower medical students to be active promoting information,
awareness and community advisory in these matters.
This Department believes that the medical students, doctors of the future, must
begin now, during their training, an active and constructive role in society.
It is intended that one of the strengths of the Department should be based on the
possibility that by working together at the different medical schools, with campaigns,
gatherings, promotion and awareness of important issues such as safe sexual behaviour,
HIV prevention, contraception, domestic violence, gender equality, among others, and
encouraging students to take an active part, we will achieve a positive impact on society
and also in the students who participate.
SCORA X-Change
SCORA X-Change is an international training program for medical students on
Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) issues organized by SCORA
groups in several medical schools in the hosting countries.
The aim of the project is to raise awareness and increase knowledge about
SRHR as a global health issue among medical students and future doctors, as well as to
offer medical students from different parts of the world an opportunity to exchange
experiences and ideas about the topic, promote discussions and develop transnational
collaborations. Medical students from all over the world are selected to participate, and
the program focuses on seminars with several clinicians and other professionals, at the
same time that visits and discussions on some given themes connected to Sexual and
Reproductive Health take place.

increase the presence of sexual health in medical schools curricula.

have clinical classes on a Medical Assisted Reproduction Clinic and debate
Contraception and Fertility.
This is the detailed program, including the social program, from 12th to 17th July.
The city – Lisbon
Lisbon is one of the oldest cities in the world, and the oldest city in Western
Europe, predating other modern European capitals such as London, Paris and Rome, by
hundreds of years. Julius Caesar made it a municipium called Felicitas Julia, adding to
the name Olissipo. Ruled by a series of Germanic tribes from the 5th century, it was
captured by the Moors in the 8th century. In 1147, the Crusaders under Afonso
Henriques reconquered the city and since then it has been a major political, economic
and cultural centre of Portugal and Europe.
The 16th century was Lisbon's golden era: the city was the capital of one of the
first's Global Empires, and was a European hub of commerce between Africa, India, the
Far East and later, Brazil. A devastating earthquake in 1755 lead to the loss of the
empire left the city a little threadbare, but 21st century commerce took a hand, sprucing
the place up for Expo 98 and Euro 2004. And just outside Lisbon, there´s more to
explore: enchanting woodlands, gorgeous beaches and seaside villages.
Places of interest - Lisbon
Torre de Belém (Tower of Belém)
Mosteiro dos Jerónimos (Jeronimos Monastery)
Castelo de São Jorge (Saint George’s Castle)
2. Porto
The students will stay in Porto during the third week, from July 18th to July 25th.
Third week: 18th to 25th July
During the third week of the program, students will focus on the following topics:

Maternal Health and Safe Abortion – students will have the opportunity to
attend Obstetrics and Gynaecology interactive sessions, with the possibility to
learn more about the major issues on Maternal Health and discuss abortion
statistics in Portugal.

HIV and other STIs – students will have the opportunity to have clinical
classes on Infectiology and improve knowledge on STIs management and
prevention.

Sexuality and Gender Issues – students will have the opportunity to debate
scientific data on homoparenthood and its social and legal reality in Portugal,
with the opportunity to visit a LGBT Association that focus its attention on
LGBT family rights.


providers, giving the picture of Domestic Violence in Portugal. You will also
have the opportunity to learn from an association which mission is help victims.
This is the detailed program, including the social program, from 18th to 25th July.
The city – Porto
Porto was built along the hills overlooking the Douro river estuary. It has been
continuously inhabited since at least the 4th Century, when the Romans referred to it as
Portus Calle.
A lively walkable city with chatter in the air and a tangible sense of history,
Porto’s old-world riverfront district is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Porto was built
along the hills overlooking the Douro river estuary. It has been continuously inhabited
since at least the 4th Century, when the Romans referred to it as Portus Calle. The main
reason tourists or travellers visit Oporto is to sample its legendary Port wine, which is
processed, blended and aged in the various lodges of Vila Nova de Gaia that are
magnificently located by the banks of the great Douro River.

theoretical relevance, overall interest and facilitation quality. That will be crucial for us
to improve the entire project, the way we plan the topics approached and overall
organization.

an online evaluation form of the overall program, the organization and the social
program.
Besides the evaluation, that will be very important to elaborate a report of this

backgrounds, that will be actively discussing HIV and other STI’s, Comprehensive
