101 st Airborne Division Association Massachusetts Special Events PRESS RELEASE Massachusetts 101st Airborne Unit to Honor a Fellow Trooper Killed in Afghanistan The 101st Airborne Division Association - Massachusetts Special Events is sponsoring its first annual memorial fishing trip in memory of Spc John M. Dawson, a medic, who was killed in the line of duty last week in Afghanistan. Director of Massachusetts Special Events Dick George, along with Lawrence, MA VSO (Veterans Service Officer) Jamie Melendez will spearhead the trip focusing on fellow members of the 101st Airborne Division veterans. George said the trip will take place in July out of Plum Island, Newburyport, MA and members of Dawson’s family will be invited. George, who raises funds for the trips from friends and local businesses, has been running fishing trips for local veterans including World War II veterans and several from a homeless shelter in Boston for a number of years under the flag of the 101st Airborne Division.
