PROGRAM

hour elective sessions. The Currumbin Primary School core
Physical Education Curriculum will be taught by the school
specialist staff. There maybe additional optional costs for
involvement in extra coaching sessions with visiting
professionals.
These costs will be as a semester levy
(optional).
SPORTS PROGRAM
Year 4
will involve continued development of skills and
knowledge and inclusion in intra-school sport and district
competitions.
Year 5 & 6
students will be able to give preferences for
4 elective areas (safe quotas will be a determinant). Boys

This year Currumbin Primary School students in Year4-6
also have the opportunity to apply to participate in our new
Sport Enrichment initiative which gives selected students a
chance to train and develop in different sport contexts such
as cross country running, athletics, tennis, cricket and
aquathon.

FOOTY ELECTIVE
The program aims to teach skills and provide opportunities for
students to apply skills in a range of football codes.
Students experience AFL, Rugby League, Touch Football and
Soccer across the year.
This program utilises many of the excellent external resources
available to schools to add expertise to classes.
MULTISPORT
The Program provides sporting opportunities in various activities
including:
Skipping
Sports Aerobics
Modified Cricket Activities
Basketball
Started cycling in primary school winning numerous
state championships.
Won national championships throughout high school in track
endurance events.
1987 Represented Australia at the Junior World Cycling
Championships.
1988 – 1993 Australian team member culminating in silver medals
in Commonwealth Games, World Championships and 1992
Barcelona Olympic Games. (Scholarship holder at Australian
Institute of Sport throughout these years)
WORKING CAREER
1994 Worked as a sports massage therapist for Cycling Australia.
1996 Level 1 Cycling Coach – coaching junior world champion and
future Olympic gold medallist and Tour De France participant Brett
Lancaster.
1997 Assisted in establishing sport and recreation facilities at
Couran Cove Resort. Participated in steering committee for the
Runaway Bay Sports Super Centre.
Worked in Healthcare at Pindara Private Hospital.
2006 Level 1 AFL coach and Super 8’s coaching coordinator at
Burleigh Bombers AFL club.
2008 Level 1 Rugby League coaching certificate.
Presently Classroom Teacher at Currumbin Primary School.
MAXINE LAWRIE
Maxine completed 4 years of HPE training
at Wollongong Institute of Education in 1980.
Maxine completed a further 12 months of
training at the Canberra College of Advanced
Education specialising in recreational
planning.
With a background of gym and dance Maxine has been an
enthusiastic classroom, HPE and Dance & Drama teacher for
many years.
Registered Teacher with 22 years experience.
Gymnastics and Dance coach since 1986.
Owned and operated Rainbow Gymnastics
School 1996 -1999.
Cheerleading co-ordinator Gold Coast Chargers Rugby League
Team, Gold Coast Rollers Basketball Team, Gold Coast
Baseball Team.
Full time HPE teacher Currumbin Primary School 2000 - 2006.
Jump Rope for Heart co-ordinator/coach for CPS Skipping
Team (Currumbin Ripper Skippers).
CPS Interschool sport team coach for Hockey, Basketball,
Soccer, Swimming, Cross Country, Athletics teams.
Introduced Sports Awards Ceremony to CPS.

Mr Paul Guilfoyle has become part of the our
standing Physical Education team at
Currumbin Primary for 2015.
LES B LACK
Les Black has been teaching for 25 years, 22
of them at Currumbin Primary School.
He graduated from Mt Gravatt Teachers College in
1989, majoring in Physical Education.
He has played representative Rugby League and
Touch in Queensland and NSW and coached Junior
Rugby League and Touch teams for many years.
He is a lifelong surfer (40 years) who established the surfing
program at Currumbin Primary School where students are able to
gain their Surfing Survival Certificate and the emphasis is on surfing
and having fun with your mates.
He coached the Currumbin surfing team to 10 straight wins in the
Gold Coast South Surfing Titles.
He brings to the team a great deal of
experience and knowledge from just over a
decade of Physical Education Specialist
Teaching; several Level 1 Coaching
Accreditations across a variety of sports; qualifications gained as a
Personal Trainer; as well as a long list of sporting credentials, both
as an athlete , coach and official.
He believes strongly in the values and opportunities that
participation in physical activities and sports provides for
developing minds and bodies.
Mr Guilfoyle hopes to add value to our already outstanding
program variety while serving as a role model to our students
through his own continued active participation, competition and
learning through sport.
