Conference Brochure

About the Conference
At the heart of any organization are its operations—the activities that define it. This description holds true whether the
organization is a global brand manufacturer such as Apple or Toyota, a major retailer like Home Depot, a nonprofit
organization such as the International Red Cross, or a local gas station or health care clinic. Purchasing, assembly, shipping,
settling accounts, stocking, and even communicating are but a few examples of many different actions unfolding within these
organizations, united by a single purpose: to create value for a customer. (Simpson, N. C. and Hancock, P. G. (2013) Practical
Operations Management, Hercher Publishing Incorporated, Illinois, USA)
The Prime Minister of India, Mr. Narendra Modi launched the "Make in India", an initiative of the Government of India, on 25
September 2014, to encourage companies to manufacture their products in India. The major objective behind the initiative is
to focus on 25 sectors of the economy for job creation and skill enhancement. Some of these sectors are: automobiles,
chemicals, IT, pharmaceuticals, textiles, ports, aviation, leather, tourism and hospitality, wellness, railways, auto components,
design manufacturing, renewable energy, mining, bio-technology, and electronics. The initiative hopes to increase the GDP
growth and tax revenue, aims at high quality standards and minimizing the impact on the environment and hopes to attract
capital and technological investment in India. Operations management both in manufacturing and service, plays a stellar role
in this initiative. Hence this conference promotes excellence in operations as the key driver to boost economy.
The International Conference on Operations Management and Research (ICOMAR 2015) aims to bring the academicians,
research scholars, policy makers, practitioners, and industry people, on a common platform to discuss and debate the various
and challenges of operations management, to improve the efficiency and effectiveness. The conference with its broad based
theme provides opportunity to all the stake holders to deliberate on various topics and generate the solutions to reach the goal
of operational excellence. The conference also helps to form professional networks and to disseminate knowledge through
informal opportunities and active participation. For SDMIMD, it will be another platform to increase its visibility in the Academia
and Corporate world. It will also serve as a brand-building exercise for SDMIMD.
