An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic and self-motivated individual to join the new marketing team
at UNIC. The Senior Marketing Manager will play a pivotal role in leading and managing the Marketing team as
they establish the internationalism agenda within the college in partnership with the University of Northampton.
The SMM drives the marketing process and assists with the admissions activities of the College to which they
are attached as part of a cross-functional team. The SMM assists the Director of Marketing and Admission
(DMA) in the development and implementation of the marketing plan and the management of the promotional,
sales and recruitment operations and budget. The SMM is expected to be able to develop effective business
relationships and opportunities, both in the UK and offshore and to implement sales and marketing strategies
that will achieve agreed targets. In addition to this, the SMM works as part of the Admissions and Marketing
team as well as collaborate closely with the Student Services Team and the University’s admissions and
recruitment staff. The SMM will also be responsible for the management, mentoring and training of the
Marketing Team, particularly with respect to Tier 4 compliance regulations and the QAA’s Code of Practice as
well as guiding their activities in selected markets across the globe.
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate:

Demonstrate high level interpersonal skills inclusive of strong verbal and written communication skills
as presentation and interpersonal skills of the highest order are needed to generate broad support for
this role

Have extensive experience in education services marketing

Demonstrate an effective working knowledge of university pathway programmes

Possess tertiary qualifications (bachelor degree a minimum), preferably in marketing, or demonstrable
work experience in the Higher Education marketing sector which includes a track record of promoting
and selling educational services

Demonstrate knowledge of the tertiary university market for school leavers, and will have a
demonstrated ability to set and meet sales targets in a complex services environment

Proven ability to design, initiate and implement marketing plans, strategies and sales tactics which have
made a significant contribution to sustainable business growth

The ability to write persuasive and concise management reports

Experience in an education services environment

Ability to travel both within the UK and overseas

Purpose of Position

overseas; keen for new experience, responsibility and accountability and importantly be able to get on with

Personal Situation
Must be able to spend time away from home; able to commute reliably to office base and work extended hours
on occasions when required.
Specific Job Skills
Able to communicate and motivate via written media; understands the principles of marketing and advertising
cost-effectiveness, including market sector targeting, product offer development, features-benefits-solutions
selling, cost per response, cost per conversion, etc. Appreciates need for consistency within company's branding
and marketing mix, especially PR and the Internet.
Computer skills
Must be adept in use of MS Office 2007 or later, particularly Excel and Word, and ideally Access or similar
database to basic level, Internet and email.
Literacy and Numeracy
Able to understand profit and loss calculations and basic business finance, e.g., gross margin percentages and
calculations, depreciation, capital and revenue expenditure, cash-flow, overheads, etc. and must be a very
competent writer of business letters, quotations and proposals.
Business and Selling Skills
Must be an excellent face-to-face and telephone communicator who is able to demonstrate success and
experience managing major accounts customers, large contracts or even a business, particularly achieving
genuine sales development. Ideal background would be in services industry.
Management Ability
Superior people-management skills, experience and natural ability will be critical.
