31st March 2015 #10 Principal’s Pen Dear Parents Butterfly Wings Unfortunately our school was the subject of a graffiti incident over the weekend. It looks like a few adolescent youths were responsible. The matter has been referred to the Police and they would be keen to hear from anyone who saw anything suspicious at the school over the weekend. Students were upset to see the graffiti and many students spoke to me to say how disappointing it was. As one young girl said that it was ‘sad for people not to respect our school’. Painters will be at the school over the next few days to remove the graffiti. As you drive past the school over the holiday please keep a watchful eye on our school. If you see anything suspicious call School Watch on 13 17 88 or the Police on 131 444. The term will end with a rush of activity this week. The Easter Raffle is drawn today, the Prep Easter Bonnet Parade is on tomorrow morning and Thursday is the Fluro Fun Run. Thank you for all your support this term. School will resume on Monday 20 April. I am taking a period of leave for the first 4 weeks of Term 2 and Mr Holden will be acting Principal while I am away. We have found that families who have hosted students have often kept in touch and developed lasting friendships. This year is SENIOR MUSICAL YEAR. With great delight I would like to announce that this year we are putting on Peter Pan Jr. A 60 minute musical based on the novel and movie of Peter Pan. Auditions are open for any student in Year 4-6. All the information is up on the music room window, sign up sheets in the music room and auditions will be taking place in the first week back in Term 2. Its going to be lots of fun. Students need to be aware that auditioning for this musical requires commitment to attend lunch time, before and after school rehearsals. Term 2 is a very busy one in the music department. Our Senior ensembles and Junior and Senior Choir will be performing at the Big Breakfast on Wednesday 20th May and then at the Eisteddfod on the last week of term. Also next Term our Junior Concert Band and our Training String Orchestra will begin rehearsing. All students in years 3,4 and 5 who have begun to learn an instrument this year will be involved in these ensembles. The Junior Concert Band will begin in Week 2 on a Monday morning 7.45am-8.45am and the Training String Orchestra will be Tuesday first lunchtime 11am-11.40am. Information will be sent out via our instrumental email list and notes home for students in the Junior Concert Band. Congratulations everyone on a very successful Term 1 and have a great holiday. We are seeking between 10-20 families to host visiting students from Japan in Term 3 on a voluntary basis. When our students visit Japan in Year 6, they have the opportunity to participate in a home stay experience – what better way to share that same experience with a child from Japan. Dates are 27 July – 2 August and 20-23 August. Please contact me by calling the office or emailing rstev85@eq.edu.au if you would like to register your interest Did you know? There is a way for your child to practice and consolidate what they learn in Japanese class at home. Your child can visit the website www.learningplace.eq.edu.au and log on securely using their EQ ID and password. On this site, they can select the Learning Pathway Access ID: 90244205 to enjoy a range of games, videos and resources.
