CAMP SCHEDULE OF ACTIVITIES
Check in for all camps is from 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm on Monday, July 13. Each evening will be filled with fun and
engaging activities that will inspire and spark all levels of leadership and teamwork. Parents, friends and family
are welcome to attend a spectacular Showcase with performances from the students on July 17. Doors open
at 2:30 pm, performance starts at 3 pm. See Camp Schedule for details.
THE CAMPUS IS LOCATED
Camp activities, including meals and accommodation will take place at Selkirk College’s Mary Hall, located
at 820 Tenth Street in Nelson BC. Mary Hall is home to Selkirk College’s Culinary programs and a fantastic
gymnasium. See maps for details.
CAMP RULES AND EXPECTATIONS
* RESPECT FOR PEOPLE - the instructors will give utmost respect to each and every camper. They would
appreciate the same in return. Similarly, it is important to recognize that we all come with different talents and
abilities and we have much to learn from each other as well. Campers can learn from each other.
* RESPECT FOR EQUIPMENT - the equipment and facilities at the college are presented for your development
and enjoyment. It is very important to treat everything as though it is yours and leave it in the same condition
(or better) when you are finished.
* BEHAVIOUR - it is expected that all camp participants will be on their best behaviour at all times. Your
instructors are here to teach you, and the less time they spend on behavioral issues, the more you will learn.

An opportunity for youth aged 13-17 to explore their passion with career potential. Imagine. Believe. Achieve.
Each five-day camp will have an evening focus on leadership. Camps are located at the Selkirk College Mary

TEEN IRON CHEFS CAMP
Instructor: Lita Moth
Combine your two favorite activities: cooking and eating! Make mouth-watering meals that comfort your body
and soul while learning about nutrition, proper food handling and cooking tools safety. Learn the basics of
cooking techniques. All levels of cooking experience are welcome. Bring an apron.
DANCE CAMP

Designed for intermediate to advanced level dancers. Applicants should have a minimum of 4 years of formal

All meals are included with the camp. Some snacks prepared by YES Camp’s very own Iron Chefs. Students
with food allergies or specific dietary requirements must notify us at the time of registration.
LOCATION
The Mary Hall Campus is located at 820 Tenth Street in Nelson. A map of Mary Hall and directions are
attached.
FIRST AID
There is a first aid attendant on campus at all times. Any injuries or accidents will be dealt with in an
appropriate manner. Parents/guardians will be contacted immediately in the event of a serious situation.
MONEY AND VALUABLES
All activities planned are included in the camp fees therefore campers are not required to bring extra money.
Vending machines are available on campus for snack and drinks, however each camper is responsible for their
own money if they choose to bring some. It is highly advisable that students NOT bring valuables such as
ipods, ipads, laptops, etc. Even though efforts are made to create a safe environment there are other people
on the college grounds. The camp and college WILL NOT be responsible for lost money or valuables.
CAMP SUPERVISION
Every effort is made to ensure that all campers are kept safe and under proper supervision. Campers will be
with one or more instructor for the entire day, and will be under supervision 24-hours a day. Campers will
not be allowed to leave the college grounds. If a camp activity involves leaving the college grounds, campers
will be under direct supervision of a camp supervisor. The camp co-ordinator will be on campus to ensure all
activities and events run as planned.

RESIDENCE CAMP SLEEPING ARRANGEMENTS
Classrooms in Mary Hall have been converted into dorm rooms. Campers will be sleeping on the floor,
therefore a good foamy or air mattress would be suitable. Each room with have at least one overnight
chaperone. Residence campers will be divided into appropriate groups, with each occupying separate
space. Campers are reminded that regular room checks will take place to check for cleanliness.
CAMP AMENTITIES
Mary Hall is equipped with complete free shower facilities for the campers use. Campers will have access to
shower facilities before and after the daily camp activities.

YES CAMP: DANCE CAMP
INSTRUCTORS
STELIO CALAGIAS
Artistic Director, Master Teacher,
Co-Founder Metro Movement Studios, Toronto
Stelio Calagias was born in Detroit, Michigan, where he graduated from Marygrove College with a B.F.A. in
dance, and went on to train extensively on full scholarship at Canada’s National Ballet School. He has trained
with the legendary Erik Bruhn, Martha Graham, and Matt Mattox, among others. Stelio embarked on an
impressive career that spans choreography, directing, teaching, and performance.
As a professional choreographer, teacher, singer, and dancer, Stelio’s career has taken him across North
America, Canada, Europe, and Puerto Rico. He has appeared in countless productions on stage, in movies, and
in cabarets, in New York City, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Mexico City, Knoxville, and Atlantic City, to name a few.
He has appeared with such stars as Buddy Hackett, Frank Sinatra, Peaches and Herb, Pia Zadora, Tony Orlando,
Karen Kain, Kimberly Glasco, Frank Augustyn, Ann Reinking, Jeff Hyslop, Louise Pietre, Maureen Forrester, Patsy
Gallant, Carol Baker, Anthony Quinn, Mikhail Baryshnikov, Elliot Feld, Henry Winkler, Margret Illmann, Gina
Gershon, Jeanne Becker, Kenny Ortega, Michael Peters, Alanis Morrisette, Olivia Newton John, and Gene Kelly.
He played the role of Mr. Mistoffelles in the original cast of the Canadian stage production of “Cats”, the hit
broadway musical, and did the first national tour. Stelio also had a starring role in the Emmy-nominated C.B.C.
television production of the opera, “The Medium” with Maureen Forrester.
Stelio’s versatility has allowed him to choreograph, direct, and performing in many productions including
movies, feature films, television, commercials, music videos, stage productions, and national conferences. He
is currently on the faculty of Ryerson University’s Dance Department in Toronto teaching there for 18 years,
and has taught at countless schools and colleges nationwide, and abroad. Numerous winners and finalists
from “So You Think You Can Dance Canada” currently train with him, perform in his live productions, and
frequently guest teach at Metro Movement. He lives in Toronto with his amazing wife, Eileen Birks, and they
have co-owned and directed Metro Movement Studios together for the past 23 years. “ My responsibility is
to inspire talented people in such way that it brings out all of their creative potential, and to believe that thru
dedication, commitment, discipline, and love, they really can achieve their dreams.”
CRAIG HEMPSTED
Born and raised in Vancouver, BC, Canada, discovered dance in his teens and hasn’t looked back. He caught
the attention of some important players in the Canadian dance scene and garnered scholarships to train at
some of the finest facilities in the country including the Royal Winnipeg Ballet, The National Ballet of Canada
and Les Ballets Jazz de Montréal.
After having toured with Debra Brown’s Company (principal
choreographer of Cirque du Soleil), he was invited to train and
perform with the artists in Montreal, Canada. Craig soon embraced
the musical theatre and toured with a variety of companies for years
including “A Chorus Line” and “Peter Pan” starring Cathy Rigby.

After having done a stint on the cruise ships, he was imported to Las Vegas by Dick Foster Productions. Craig
was their principal choreographer and had two shows running simultaneously on the famous Las Vegas
Strip-“Spellbound” at Harrah’s and “Imagine” at the Luxor. For the Fosters, he created shows in Auckland, New
Zealand and Johannesburg, South Africa and in venues all across America.
Craig has won awards for his choreography onboard The Silversea Shadow for his show, “Umbra”. He
currently has a musical revue running on the Celebrity Century entitled “Liverpool Knights”.
When choreography wasn’t enough to keep him busy, he started on the teaching circuit and ended up as
the Artistic Director of PRO Dance Centers in Las Vegas as well as principal judge and instructor for Dance
Educators of America. Craig is now sought after by many organizations for his enthusiasm, spirit and selfless
contributions to young artists.
Craig was the associate choreographer on the Tarsem Singh film “Mirror, MIrror” starring Julia Roberts and
Nathan Lane. He was also the associate choreographer for “Canada’s Got Talent”, where he coached the
winning act, “Sagkeeng’s Finest” to the win.
Most recently, Craig has been invited to be a part of the creative team for Ringling Brothers and Barnum &
Bailey Circuses. He also directed an Equestrian Acrobatic show in Las Vegas entitled, “Ma’Ceo” where the stars
of the show were horses!
YES CAMP: DANCE CAMP DETAILS:
4 Day Dance Performance Intensive
14 classes in 4 days.
Designed for intermediate to advanced level dancers ages 13 to 17 years old.
Applicants must have a minimum of 4 years of formal training in one or more of the following disciplines
including ballet, jazz, contemporary, or a combination of these skills at an intermediated to advanced level.
DRESS CODE:
* Students will be required to wear their hair up and off the face for ballet classes
* Students will be required to wear a leotard and tights, a fitted top and jazz pants or dance shorts of a
reasonable length with a fitted top. Dancers may choose work in bare feet or jazz shoes.
* Sweatpants and warm clothing may be worn for the first part of class as the temperature indicates.
YES CAMP: DANCE CAMP COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Int/Adv Ballet Technique w/Stelio Calagias
Exploring the fundamentals of classical ballet technique with influences from Russian and Cecchetti
methods. Classes will begin with exercises at the barre focusing on alignment, placement, control, balance,
coordination and the development of strength in preparation for centre work. Centre exercises will include:
port de bras for use of the arms and upper body and to develop a
sense of line: adage for control, strength and balance: pirouettes for
developing the ability to turn, petit and grand allegro, use of space
and breadth of movement and developing quick footwork.

Theater Dance w/Stelio Calagias
Combining the influences of traditional and contemporary choreography from Broadway Musicals. Emphasis
on broadway performance technique. This class will be in preparation for the Show Case Performance on day 4.
Inter/Adv Lyrical Jazz Technique w/Craig Hempsted from Metromovement
The class begins with a systematic warm-up in center floor, which is designed to integrate stretch and
strength with proper alignment and technique. This work is intended to provide dancers with a strong
foundation from which to develop physically in order to begin to take more risks thereby improving both
physically and artistically. Floor work is also used with emphasis on placement and flexibility as it applies.
Int/Adv Contemporary Choreo w/Craig Hempsted from Metromovement
This class utilizing methods and techniques based on the instructor’s individual expertise. Various sources
and influences have been combined to create a teaching and choreographic style unique to the genre and
the instructor. This class will be in preparation for the Show Case Performance on day 4.

YES CAMP: FILM CAMP INSTUCTOR - AMY BOHIGIAN
As an independent filmmaker Bohigian has directed and produced award-winning films that include Love It
and Leave It (2008) funded by the NFB, Conceiving Family (2011), described by the CBC as, “an intimate and
beautiful film,” and Dreamers and Dissidents (2015) commissioned by BC’s public broadcaster, Knowledge
Network.
Amy owns and operates Watershed Productions Inc., a video production company based in Nelson, BC, where
she has directed and produced several video based projects for government, corporate, and non-profit clients
looking to create social impact. She founded the Summer Film Camp for Youth in 2007 and has instructed
hundreds of youth in all aspects of filmmaking. She was the artist-in-residence at Oxygen Art Centre, creating
the video installation Roundtable (2008), and exhibited a new media installation Wide Shot/Close Up (2014-15)
at Touchstones Nelson Museum of Art and History. Amy was named Nelson BC’s cultural ambassador (2014)
in the category of film/video production and represented Nelson’s art and culture community at national and
international events and festivals.
She earned her Master’s Degree in Education from Harvard University (1999) and holds an Advanced Degree
for Independent Digital Film Program from Selkirk College (2007.) She was awarded the Shaw Media Fund
scholarship for mid-career directors at the Hot Docs Conference and Film Festival (2011) and was awarded the
documentary Doc Accelerator Fellowship for eight filmmakers across Canada to participate in a professional
development and mentoring program through the Hot Docs Conference and Film Festival (2014).
YES CAMP: IRON CHEF CAMP INSTRUCTOR – LITA MOTH
Lita’s fascination with food began at a fairly early age. She grew up in the Okanagan surrounded by orchards
and farmland. She have memories of picking cherries, peaches, apples and pears, and watching her mother
prepare and preserve them in many different ways. Lita’s dad would take her and her brother fishing, and her
mom would take them foraging for mushrooms and wild asparagus. They would then witness all of these
ingredients being transformed and featured at the dinner table.
Lita took her culinary arts training at Okanagan College, and has worked in hotel restaurants, wineries and
pubs throughout the Okanagan. She also spent 3 years as the Kitchen Coordinator for an urban Aboriginal
Community Centre, the Ki-Low-Na Friendship Society. After obtaining her Red Seal, Lita earned her Culinary
Management Diploma at Selkirk College. In the summer of 2013, Lita lived in a tent at Salmo River Ranch for 40
days as Crew Kitchen Captain at Shambhala Music Festival, utilizing a wide array of some of the best produce
grown in our beautiful region. Lita brings her travel experiences from Norway, the Netherlands, France, South
East Asia and the United Arab Emirates to the flavors of her cooking.

and may take place where conditions are variable and unpredictable and can change without notice, affecting the safety
of any participant, including me, and could result in serious personal injury, illness, death, loss or damage to property, or
mental distress (including anxiety or embarrassment). The risks and hazards include but are not limited to:

Overusing, exerting, or stretching muscles, or strenuous cardiovascular workouts;
Vigorous physical exertion, rapid movement, and quick turns and stops; Falling due

Mechanical failure of any equipment or object;

Activities of other participants, observers, and/or other persons.

hazards associated with the Activities, whether known or unknown and howsoever caused.
Release and Waiver of Liability:

I waive any and all claims I may have, and release Selkirk College from all liability for any and all claims, costs, demands, damages,
debts, dues, bonds, covenants, contracts, expenses, actions and causes of action, whether in law or in equity, whether direct,
indirect or consequential, and by reason of any cause whatsoever, including negligence, gross negligence, breach of contract or
breach of any statutory, regulatory or other duty of care (collectively, “Claims”),
in respect of any death, injury, loss or damage to my person or property of whatever kind and howsoever caused,
including injuries or damage I may cause to other participants (collectively, “Loss and Damage”), arising from or relating in
any way to the Activities, whether as a participant or otherwise.

I acknowledge and agree that my image or likeness may be recorded during my activities during Parkour and that such
images or likenesses may be used in advertising or for other purposes now or in the future in either static image or video form.
Agreement not to Sue:

I promise and covenant not to make any Claims or pursue any proceedings against Selkirk College, or any natural person,
corporation or other legal entity that might claim contribution or indemnity against Selkirk College, whether under the
provisions of any statute or otherwise, with respect to any issue arising from or relating in any way to my participation in
the Activities, whether as a spectator, participant, or otherwise, notwithstanding that either or both of the Claims and the
Loss and Damage may have been caused, contributed to or occasioned by the acts, omissions or other conduct of Selkirk
College.

I indemnify, hold and save harmless Selkirk College from any loss, claim, damage award, action, cause of action, cost or expense
Selkirk College or their employees, agents and subcontractors may sustain, incur, suffer or be put to at any time during or after I
participate arising directly or indirectly or contributed to by me or any act or omission by me including any representation or warranty I
have made becoming untrue or incorrect and against any and all liability, leases, damages, fines, costs or penalties that Selkirk
College may incur due to any claim made against it arising from or relating in any way to my participation in Activities, whether as a
spectator, participant, or otherwise.

Choice of Law and Jurisdiction:

I agree that this agreement shall be governed by and interpreted in accordance with the applicable laws of BC. I
irrevocably attorn to the exclusive jurisdiction of the Courts of BC concerning any matter that may arise in relation to this
agreement.
Participant is a Minor:

I declare that I am the parent or legal guardian of the Participant and I agree to the terms and conditions of this Agreement
on behalf of and for the Participant. I understand that this agreement waives my right to sue on my own behalf, not the right
for myself or a legal guardian to sue on my child's behalf.
By signing this form, I acknowledge having read, understood and voluntarily agreed to the entirety of this Agreement. I
acknowledge and agree that Selkirk College cannot provide me with legal advice in association with this Agreement and that I have had
or been given the opportunity to seek independent legal advice. I further acknowledge that no oral statements, representations or
inducements have been made by Selkirk College, in respect of my participation in Activities or in respect of the signing of this
Agreement. I further agree that this Agreement is intended to be as broad and inclusive as is permitted by law and that if any portion of
it is held to be invalid, the remainder of it shall nevertheless be effective and binding. I understand that I am giving up legal rights
by signing this Agreement, which is intended to be a full and final release and waiver.
