quickly and comfortably.
Should I allow for extra time
for passport and security

In most cases, on your way between planes you will have to pass
through security and passport
checks. Please allow enough time
for them. If you are in a hurry to
catch your connecting flight, you
can save time by using one of the
“Fast Lanes” at the security check.

Tax Refunds
Price Benefits for Visitors Who Live Outside the EU
What is VAT?
All merchandise sold in Europe is subject to a so-called
value-added tax (VAT). In Germany, there are two VAT rates:
7% and 19%. If you visit the European Union (EU) but live
elsewhere, you can get a refund on any VAT spent when
leaving. This makes it quite a bit cheaper for you to make
purchases in Germany, compared to EU residents.
Our tip: Make VAT-free purchases at Frankfurt Airport
You can obtain advice, information, and assistance for
making VAT-free purchases in any shop at Frankfurt Airport.
In the duty-free shops, value-added tax has already been
eliminated from the prices.
You can obtain VAT refunds from the following businesses at
Frankfurt Airport:
Consult the terminal maps to see where their outlets are located.
2a. Tax-exempt items in
checked luggage
2b. Tax-exempt items in
carry-on bags
–Inform the check-in staff about any
tax-exempt merchandise and VAT
refunds. They will attach stickers to
your bags and return them to you
for presentation at the customs office.
–Go through the security check.
3. Obtain a customs stamp
–Allow sufficient time for the customs
formalities.
–Present the purchased items, your
passport, the receipts, and the
completed forms.
–Make sure that the items are still unused and that you can present them.
4. Obtain the refund
–Go to a refund counter.
–Present the completed and stamped
tax exemption forms.
–Get a cash refund.*
* A processing fee is deducted from your VAT refund.
