The Ontario Swimming
Officials Association
is proud to present an
Online Learning Program
to assist in “Climbing the Ladder”!
CLIMB THE LADDER!
...LEADING CANADIAN
SWIMMING AT EVERY LEVEL
Step 1
Go to: www.osoa.ca and
click on education.
Step 2
Click: [LOGIN] and follow
the instructions under
“Is this your first time here?”
Step 3
You will be asked for a key
to enroll in the courses. The
key required to enter each course is listed on page 3 of this document. This key
prevents the general public from accessing our courses, but is also the key that you
will be providing to new participants. The Club Official (COC) is responsible for
distributing the keys to perspective participants and for recording participant
information. Please do not post these keys anywhere on your club website. They are
to be kept private and distributed privately.
Step 4
When you enter the site you will see that for each course there are several sections.
Each section may comprise of a selection of html (webpages), pdf, images and
audio/video files. Don’t worry though, moodle knows what program goes with each
and will open it for you!
Step 5
The final section of the site is devoted to the quiz. Participants must obtain a mark of
at least 80% in order to successfully complete the course. There is a set of instructions
for participants to follow in order to “officially” complete the course. The instructions
read as follows:
What do I do now that I have passed the exam?
Congratulations on successfully completing the (Level 1) questionnaire. Print and mail or email
the results to your Club Officials’ Chairperson to obtain your Officials Certification card and Level
1 pin. The card is a record of clinics taken and experience on deck. Keep it with you when you
work swim meets and make sure you have the referee complete your deck evaluation each time.
Also, please be sure to keep a copy of your results on file.
For further details and for the next step, review the “Up The Ladder” document
found on the OSOA website.
Roles & responsibilities of the Regional Official (ROR) with regard to the
new online Moodle site:
Introduce on-line clinic program to COC's;
Explain role and expectations of COC’s; Provide website access and password (key) information;
Monitor program at regional level;
Respond to questions from individual regional attendees concerning
clinic content;
Participate in the development of FAQ's section by posting questions
and answers to website;
Encourage COC’s to promote use of on-line clinics;
Assist with further development of all additional on-line clinics;
Maintain records of participation for the online programs at a regional
level based on reports provided by the COC.
The role of the Club Official (COC) is to deliver information pertaining to
officiating to the parents within their own club. They should give the
enrollment key to the parents and keep track of the participants and results,
provide the card and pins to parents who have successfully completed the
clinic and subsequently sign their card for each clinic successfully passed
thereafter.
Participant information is important and will assist OSOA in maintaining
records of the online usage for each region and club.
Should you have any questions, comments, or suggestions about this
exciting program please contact the following people:

The Meet Manager oversees all
non-deck aspects of the meet by
forming a committee to deal with
the different aspects of the meet
from setting of a budget to ensuring
the availability of needed supplies.
As a result, they must have good
managerial and people skills and,
at the same time, be sufficiently
knowledgeable of what happens
during a meet to deal with aspects
of the meet which occur on deck..
During the meet itself, the Meet
Manager oversees the entry of
results and posting of results. They
also arrange the card (if used) for
finals and verify team points and
individual high point results. In the
case of a protest, the Meet
Manager forms a Jury of Appeal
and acts as its Chairperson. They
also print the results of the Jury of
Appeal and inform the interested
parties of the results.
When the meet is over, the Meet
Manager is responsible in tying up
all loose ends including ensuring
that all participating clubs receive
results and that Gold Bonus and
other specified fees are paid.
