How to find No. 80 Merrivale Road (EX4 1PT) By Car From the A30 turn off at the Exeter sign onto the roundabout. a.) Take the exit onto the A377, signposted Exeter city centre. At the first junction (traffic lights with a Sainsbury’s on your right) turn left into Cowick Lane. Follow this for about 1.5 miles to a set of lights with the First and Last pub on your right. Go straight over this junction into Buddle Lane and take the second turning on the left, Savile Road. At the top of Savile Road, there is a large red brick building directly in front of you, which is the DCC Youth Centre. If you look to your left, there is a small playground with a bright yellow fence. The school is set back from and to the left of the youth centre, down the small side lane beside the playground. The gate has ‘80’ on the letter box. b.) (to avoid traffic) Take the exit signposted Ide. Continue along this rural road until you get to a Tjunction. Turn right towards Exeter. Continue along this road which becomes more built up. Just after a large light orange building on your left turn left onto Bowhay Lane. Take the second right onto Merrivale Road. Drive along this road until you reach the large brick DCC Youth Centre mentioned above. Park and follow instructions above. If you are coming from east of Exeter, come around the city on the motorway then take the A30 west towards Okehampton then follow the directions above. From the Crediton/Tiverton direction come in along A377 Cowley Bridge Road. Take right turn signposted Plymouth and Torquay. Then take first right turn over level crossing (signposted Exwick). Go over level crossing and river, then at the end of the road turn left onto Exwick Road. Travel for about 1.5 miles, past Thatch Pub, up hill (cemetery on right). At traffic lights after cemetery (Barley Mow Pub on right) go straight across the junction into Buddle Lane. Take the second right into Newman Road and then first left into Merrivale Road. The school is about 200m along the road on the right, set back from the Youth Centre and down the small side lane beside the playground. There is on-street parking on Merrivale Road and the streets nearby. By Bus From the city centre you will need an E or F bus going towards Exwick, Medley Court. These stop at Sidwell Street (bus stop 18) and then along the High Street towards Fore Street. You will travel over the Exwick Roundabout, past St Thomas railway station and along Cowick Road to the crossroads with the First and Last pub on your left. The bus will turn right along Buddle Lane and you want the 2nd bus stop which is at the end of Savile Road. Get off the bus and go up Savile Road towards the large red brick building directly in front of you, which is the DCC Youth Centre. Go left, cross over the road and take the small lane down the side of the playground which is on the left of the Youth Centre. To return to the city centre, go down Savile Road to Buddle Lane, crossover and catch an E or F bus outside Bubble It Launderette. By Train Exeter St. David’s Station is approximately 40 minutes’ walk away – come out of the station and turn right along Bonhay Road. After about 0.5 mile, cross the river at Miller’s Crossing suspension bridge, adjacent to the Mill on The Exe. Turn left and continue along the river to the road bridge. Leave the river here and go up onto Cowick Street. Follow Cowick Street for about 0.7 miles to the traffic lights* at the First and Last pub. Turn right here and take second left onto Savile Road. At the top of Savile Road, there is a large red brick building directly in front of you, which is the DCC Youth Centre. If you look to your left, there is a small playground with a bright yellow fence. The school is just behind and to the left of the youth centre, down the small side lane beside the playground. *Alternatively you can follow the route shown in red on the map by turning right opposite the church and going into the park. St. Thomas station is closer to the school – about 15 minutes’ walk and brings you out onto Cowick Street, turn away from the city centre and follow the directions above. On Arrival If the wooden gate is locked, phone the person you are meeting on their mobile. If it is open (you may have to pull the gate hard) then enter and you’ll find our building is on the left. The Hall is the first entrance; further along there is a shallow ramp leading to the main entrance; alternatively you may enter straight into the green room on the right which is further along again. This path takes you to the gate of No.80 Merrivale Road which needs a good tug.
