Location – Pigeon Forge, Tennessee
Although Maryville College is hosting the SAACURH No-Frills Conference, their
campus is too small to hold such a large group of people during the school year, therefore
Maryville College searched to find a location that would offer the necessary facilities for the
conference while showing you the peaceful side of the Great Smoky Mountains (which the
Maryville College campus is surrounded by).
The Conference Facility
The Smoky Shadow’s Motel is where the
delegates will be staying. Each room is
equipped with two king size beds and is
capable for dialup internet connect.
Some rooms have Jacuzzis in them.
There is also a pool area which is
connected to one of the rooms at the
motel which will serve as the hospitality
room.
Across the parking lot from the motel can be found the Smoky Shadow’s
Conference Center. This is where the majority of the meetings will take place
from ART sessions, to President Summits, State Board Rep meetings, the NCC
boardroom and the NRHH Boardroom. There will be limited access to wireless
internet while staying at Smoky Shadows.
Å The NCC boardroom is a large spacious
room that can accommodate all delegates
attending the conference. This room will
also be the room where we will eat meals for
the weekend. The room will be set up
classroom style with tables and chairs,
however will be rearranged to banquet style
for the closing banquet.

Each boardroom will be equipped with the capability of using power point and
will have projectors set up in both of them.
Optional Day Trip on Sunday
There are many things for people to do in the Pigeon Forge area. Among the many
things that can be done include Large Arcades, go carts, putt putt golf, shopping, fine
dining, The Dixie Stampede, The Comedy Barn, etc. Pigeon Forge is also 5 minutes
(max) away from Gatlinburg Tennessee which serves as host to many more fine
dining establishments, factory outlets, shopping, skiing, ice skating, arcades, and
even the Ripley’s Aquarium of the Smokies (the largest Aquarium in the Nationl prior
to the Aquarium in Atlanta).

Flying to No-Frills
If you are flying to the No-Frills 2007 Conference, the airport that you will be flying into is
McGhee Tyson Airport, Knoxville TN. This airport is about an hour away from Gatlinburg.
The airport code is TYS. The airport website can be found here: http://www.tys.org/. If you
have not informed the conference staff about your arrangements for travel to No-Frills please
email them at stephen.varhall@maryvillecollege.edu.
WEATHER
Recently the weather in Tennessee has varied quite a bit from day to day,
however it will most likely be pretty cold while you are staying in the
Pigeon Forge. It is usually always 15-20 degrees colder in the Mountains
then surrounding areas, so it is encouraged that everyone bring clothes in
which they can stay warm while visiting the mountains. Here has been the
weather forcasts for the past few days to give you an idea of how the
weather has been recently:

*Note the lows are in the teens, so make sure you dress for cold weather (Jacket, Gloves,

Dress for the Weekend
Although in years past it has been required to wear business attire to the boardroom, this year
we will wear casual clothes. Even for the banquet on Saturday Night, it will be a casual
banquet considering we will not have any time to go change and fancy up. However if you
are bidding for a position, it is encouraged that you would look nice for your presentation.
Also with the weather, it is going to be hard to dress in business attire when it is so cold.
THEME
This year the conference staff wanted to do
something a little different for the No-Frills
conference. They want to stick with the No-Frills
theme, however they felt that it would be interesting
to “insert” a murder mystery throughout the
weekend. Therefore from the time that you arrive to
No-Frills until Saturday night there will be clues
around the conference facilities as well as murders
that will take place. Your delegation will be given
the chance to show your “investigative skills” as you
try to solve the question…Who Done It. The
delegations that solve the mystery correctly will win a prize.

**This schedule is flexible and meant more as a guideline (with the only thing being
completely set in stone are the meal times).
BIDDING FOR REGIONAL BOARD POSITIONS
Are you bidding for a Regional Board of Directors Position? If so, then you will be required
to attend the 6:00 mandatory meeting with your host school advisor and the SEC. We will
discuss the commitment in these positions as well as what it means to be a host support
school. If you have any questions about this please let me know at omalleyrha@gmail.com or
865.405.1444. Also if you are elected to the Regional Board of Directors (RBD) you will be
required to stay until 12:00p.m. on Sunday so make plans accordingly.
When bidding for a Regional Position, you must give a presentation. The presentations for all
positions will be 8 minutes except for Regional Director which will be 10 minutes.
Officer presentations can use PowerPoint and other media devices, but all candidates are encouraged to remember
the importance of a presentation is to express what the candidate wants to accomplish in the position and what
qualifications and experience the candidate can bring to the position. Remember do not rely too much on media for
media is merely a tool, while the real importance is in the content of the presentation.

BIDDING TO HOST NO-FRILLS 2007
Remember that if you are bidding to Host No-Frills 2007 and you are selected as the
Conference Host you will be required to stay until 12:00p.m. on Sunday for a transition period
with this year’s conference staff so make sure you plan accordingly. To bid to host No-Frills
there is a 10 minute bid presentation. Remember you can use powerpoint, etc in your
presentation but your presentation should not rely totally on the use of the power point
presentation.

SO What Happens at No-Frills?
We vote, we vote, and we vote. No-Frills is the SAACURH Business
Meeting. It is at this meeting where we will vote on many SAACURH
Awards, elect next year’s Regional Officers, and elect a conference host
school from No-Frills 2008. At No-Frills, much like SAACURH, we run
two boardrooms, 1 for NCCs and 1 for NRHH Reps. Below I have listed

PARLIAMENTARY PROCEDURE
In SAACURH, we use a version of Robert’s Rules, but they are more of
a watered down version called Bob’s Rules of Order. Basically with that,
the chair has a little more leeway in how to run the boardroom and what
to do in the boardroom. I have attached on the next page a list of basic
parliamentary procedure that you will find on the back of your placard.

conference to ask these questions:

I have also included the procedure that we will follow for the various
different awards and bids we will encounter:
POSITIONAL BIDS
For SAACURH Positional bids, we will start with the SAACURH Director position and work
down. The following order will be Director, ADBA, AD-NRHH, REDC, RPC, RAC, NRHH
Advisor. With these elections, we will accept nominations from the floor for only the
positions that have not had bids submitted. Candidates can also drop down to another position
if and only if the position has not had a bid turned in. When voting you can either vote 1) Aye
for a particular Person, or No Confidence. So if there is 4 people you would vote either AYE
and write one of the four people’s names down, or you would vote No-Confidence. In order
to win, a candidate must have a majority which is defined at 50+1. Voting Procedures:
1) Presentation of Candidate 1
a. For the Director the candidates gets 10 minutes, for any other position the
candidates only get 7 minutes.
b. Q/A – 5 minutes which can be extended
c. Pro/Con – 5 minutes. Remember with pro/con try to keep it limited to 3-5 words.
i. The pro/con session will be over after 5 minutes or 3 unanswered pro/con.

a. For the Director the candidates gets 10 minutes, for any other position the
candidates only get 7 minutes.
b. Q/A – 5 minutes which can be extended
c. Pro/Con – 5 minutes. Remember with pro/con try to keep it limited to 3-5 words.
i. The pro/con session will be over after 5 minutes or 3 unanswered pro/con.
*We will do this same procedure for each candidate for that position. Once we have done
presentations, Q/A, and Pro/Con for each candidate running for a position we will then have a
5 minute discussion. In this section you can feel free to utilize compare and contrast such as:
Whereas Candidate 1 has boardroom experience, Candidate 2 does not.
After a 5 minute discussion, which can be extended by a motion, we will move into a vote.
We will vote until a candidate gets a majority (50+1) votes.

Award Bids
For award bids, we will work on the bids based upon the decision of the
chair of each boardroom. The award bids will follow a similar guideline
as the positional bids except that it will not have a presentation involved.
Below is the procedure for the Award Bids:
1) Give a few minutes to look over bids
a. Award Bid Candidate #1
i. Pro/Con Session – 5 minutes or until 3 unanswered
pro/cons
ii. We will do the Pro/Con session for each bid in that Award
Category
iii. After we have done pro/con for each bid, we will have a 5
minute discussion session which can be extended by a
motion. Remember discussion can use comparison and
contrast.
iv. After we are done with discussion we will vote. Winning
Bids will have a majority vote of 50+1.
Legislative Sessions
Legislative sessions will occur as follows:
1) Legislation is motioned to the floor
a. “I move to bring Main Motion X to the floor)
b. 2nd?
c. All in Favor, All opposed, all abstaining
2) If the legislation moves to the floor, then we will have a reading of
the legislation (this reading can be waived by a motion).

proponent speech given by the author of the legislation.
4) After the 5 minute proponent speech, we will have a 5 minute Q/A
which can be extended by a motion.

Association of Alumni and Friends of NACURH (AAFN)
In January, 1982, the NACURH National Board of Directors (NBD) approved a resolution authorizing a
NACURH alumni association. This brochure was designed to introduce the "Association of Alumni and Friends of
NACURH" to the general membership.
In a nutshell, for a minimum contribution of $100 to the NACURH reserve fund that was established, any
individual may join the association. Contributions to the association will not be spent; however, interest monies
generated from this reserve fund will be available for current needs if necessary. It is anticipated that interest monies
will ultimately be used for leadership development and recognition scholarships once the initial membership goal is
realized.
The primary benefit to any individual who joins will be recognition of support. The individual's name,
institution of choice, and year of personal significance will be published as part of the conference program along with
appropriate recognition at the annual conference closing awards banquet each year. In addition, this brochure will be
annually updated, distributed at national and regional conferences, and sent to all individuals on the alumni and friends
mailing list. It is anticipated that this will generate symbolic as well as actual support of NACURH by individuals who
were active in NACURH or from other professionals who were active as advisors but are no longer able to attend our
annual conference. Members of the alumni and friends association will receive an invitation to attend and be recognized
at each annual NACURH Conference.
Each year, money shall be included in the regional budget to induct up to five members into the Association of
Alumni and Friends of NACURH. The SEC shall select up to five inductees based upon nomination forms submitted by
members within the region. The regional inductees should show marked accomplishments regionally and be an
inspiration and positive role model for student leaders in SAACURH. Selection of these inductees should take place
sometime before or during the No Frills conference and be announced before the end of the No Frills conference. Cost
for induction into the AAFN is $100.00 and all recipients receive a special paperweight from the NSRO and will be
included in the list of AAFN members published every year. All nomination forms are due to Shaun O’Malley at
omalleyrha@gmail.com, 502 E. Lamar Alexander Parkway, Maryville, TN 37804, or in person at the close of
registration on Friday night of the No-Frills Conference.
Outside of SAACURH, your host institution can also nominate people for AAFN by paying $100.00. All host school
nominations are automatically approved (pending National Chair approval), however the ones submitted to be a part of
the 5 regional nominations will go through an extensive review by the SAACURH Executive Committee.

*remember that it is extremely imperative that to have a successful
boardroom that everyone is well prepared for it. Therefore everyone
needs to make sure that they have read the bids prior to the conference.
Also we have the bid criteria sheets online with the bids, please
download them and fill it out and turn it in at the end of discussion on the
bid. We will compile them and give them to the schools so they can use
it to better improve their bids. Remember the region is a team and we are
all here to help each other out, so please take this matter seriously.
