Creating a One Part Mold Hot glue can be used to secure the model to the base and in the center of the mold frame. Apply mold release to the model and inside the mold frame. Allow specified time to dry. Applying more than one coat of mold release is recommended. Step 1 Pour and weigh part “A” (base) in an appropriate container on a scale. Step 2 Tare or zero the scale and weigh proper mix ratio of part “B” (catalyst) into the same container. Creating a One Part Mold (continued) Using a clean stainless steel spatula, or clean wooden stir stick, mix material until it is uniform in color and minimal color striations are visible. Slowly mix the material in a folding motion to ensure minimal air entrapment. Step 3 Step 4 If necessary, once material is sufficiently mixed, using a vacuum pump with a desiccator or vacuum chamber is recommended to evacuate air that has been incorporated during the mixing process. As air is removed from the liquid rubber, the volume will temporarily rise and expand about three times its original volume. Step 5 Pour the mixed silicone until reaching the top of the mold frame. Allow material to fully cure. Most moldmaking products should cure overnight (about 16 hours) to achieve best results. Creating a One Part Mold (continued) Step 6 1 2 Remove all sides of the frame. Pour a small portion of the casting resin onto the outside of the mold to ensure inihibition does not occur.
