Refunds will be given if requested at least 72 hours prior to the start of classes, or other designated activities, unless otherwise stated at program registration. There will be a $2 service fee. However, there will be no refunds on excursions two weeks prior to the trip. Once an activity has begun, there will be no refunds except in the case of illness, injury or relocation. Aquatic Programs Mini-CAT This NOVICE program is a part of the Cougar Aquatic Team competitive swimming program - a USA Swimming program that has been based in Haddam-Killingworth for the past 18 years. It is designed to introduce the sport of competitive swimming to children between the ages of 6-13. While allowing the children to both learn and have fun, the focus of the program is to develop the technical stroke skills, advance the level of swimming, enhance fitness levels, and introduce the children to competition. The program is primarily coached by Mike Krajewski, Head Coach of CAT. Beginning Thursday, October 2nd, practices will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays for MINI-CAT swimmers only, and on available Sundays, the MINI-C.A.T. swimmers will practice with the C.A.T. 12/U age group swimmers. The session will end the last week before the February school vacation. In the Fall, practices will be 5:00 PM - 6:00 PM on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Practices may start at 5:30 after Thanksgiving, depending on pool schedule. Practices may vary at times due to the pool schedule and changes will be posted on the website. Participants must be able to complete 2 laps of freestyle with rotary breathing, have a working knowledge of a second stroke, and should have completed a full lesson program. All participants must be USA Swimming members, which C.A.T. will process with registration to the program. For first time USA Swimming members, a copy of a birth certificate must be submitted with registration. Membership is renewed on a yearly basis. The HK Recreation Department sponsors After School Programs at Burr Elementary School, Killingworth Elementary School, and Haddam Elementary School. The programs provide care for children in Afternoon or Full Day Kindergarten through 6th grade (students in grades 5 & 6 will be bused to the elementary school of your choice). The programs are designed to accommodate any children who are physically handicapped. Program is for students attending Region #17 Schools. The programs operate daily from 2:45 - 6:00 pm (KES, BES, & HES). On scheduled half-days of school (including Kindergarten Minimum Days), the program begins at 12:30 pm and ends at 6:00 pm. Children may be registered to attend on either a part-time or full-time basis. A special vacation child care program is offered on most school holidays and vacations (Veteran's Day, Teacher Professional Days, February and April School Vacations). The program does not meet on days when school is cancelled or dismissed early due to weather or other emergencies. The program curriculum is realistic and diversified. The types of activities offered include: arts and crafts, organized sports and games, free play (indoor and outdoor), homework assistance, computer use, dance, special rainy day activities, and periodic field trips. The 2008-09 Fee Structure is as follows: las Full-Time: Full-time fees are calculated each month, based on the number of school days. If you register full-time (4 or 5 days/week), the fee (based on 20 regular school days) would be $230 per month (1st child) and $130. (2nd child). The number and length of school days vary per month so the rate will change per month. Part-Time: The Recreation Department must be notified each month of specific days your child will attend. Adjustments in the days a part-time child attends may be made by contacting the Site Director! If you register part-time (child attends 1, 2, or 3 days per week), the fee is $14 per day (1st child) and $10 per day (2nd child.) Discounts for additional children are available. All payments are due the fourth Friday of each month and will cover the following month. There is a $5 per day late payment fee for any payments not received by the fourth Friday of each month. Payment notices will be handed out the third Friday of each month and parents have seven days to submit payment. There is an annual processing fee of $15.00 per child. (Maximum of $30.00 per family) Recreational Scholarships are available for families in need.
