The exhibition consists of fifty paintings in oil, all of Mount Gabriel, painted from her studio in Coolcaha, just a mile north of Ballydehob as the crow flies. It is in essence a year-long diary of the mountain, from season to season, early morning to nightfall in every weather. The exhibition will run until 7th August. Two Rivers Kindergarten is a small Steiner influenced pre-school located on the beautiful grounds of An Sanctoir in Ballydehob. The Kindergarten caters for children aged 3-5 years. Activities include baking, painting, felt-making and garden projects. The Kindergarten endeavours to create a home like atmosphere; the children are actively involved in the daily rhythms from preparing food to setting the table. There is a large outdoor play area with sandpit, swings, see-saw and little willow houses. The Kindergarten opens Monday to Thursday from 9.30am to 1pm and is now enrolling for the free pre-school year for September 2011. On Monday June 20th a meeting took place with members of the Ballydehob Community Council, the principal of St. Brigid’s school Mrs. Mary O’ Callaghan, some parents and some of our local T.D.’s & councillors including Noel Harrington T.D. Michael Mc Carthy T.D. and councillor Danny Crowley. The meeting took place at St. Brigid’s school to show the public representatives first hand the mayhem that takes place every school morning and afternoon as children are dropped off and collected from school. The former minister for housing Mr. Michael Finneran at the end of 2008 sanctioned the transfer of approximately ¾ of an acre of land opposite the school for a new health centre which has parking for in excess of forty cars. The parking facility could be used in the morning and afternoon to provide safe passage for the students attending St. Brigid’s school. The T.D.’s & councillors acknowledged the delay in signing over the land to the community council was unacceptable and gave assurances that they would deal with the matter immediately and confirmed their support for the immediate provision of the car park. Further updates regarding the above in next months newsletter. In our last news letter I let you know of the Community Council’s intention to erect on the Main Street a number of decorative flower stands. They were erected by Donie Bohan and his team and everyone has been very happy with them and we thank Donie & John Joe Bohan for their work. Unfortunately within a week or so one of the baskets opposite Camier’s filling station was stolen and on Saturday 2nd July all the baskets from the Post Office up were vandalised and will need replacing. This kind of behaviour is disgusting to say the least and I would urge all the people living in the village to keep an eye out for such behaviour. The baskets need constant watering and feeding and I would like to thank the people of Ballydehob for taking care of the baskets so far. We will replace all the damaged baskets and the vandalism is being dealt with by the Gardaì. On Saturday July 23rd a fund raising night will be held at Vincent Coughlan’s pub to provide funding for making access to Constable Lake which is a joint project between Ballydehob Community Council and the Irish Fisheries Board. The lake will be stocked on a weekly basis with permits for daily, weekly or annual fishing also being available from the Ballydehob Community Council Shop. Boats will also be available for hire on the lake again with payment to the Community Council Shop. Martin Swanton, Chairperson BCC.
