Dear Friends,
Today’s Gospel story, the Good
Samaritan, is one of the most beloved. It is
also one of those that most of us know by
heart. Without a moment’s hesitation we
could launch into the retelling of this narrative. The concept of helping an unknown person has even entered into our legal parlance
with the enactment of so-called “Good
Samaritan” laws designed to protect those
who aid others in good faith.
It might be good for us to look at this story from
the other side for once. Recall that the Samaritans were
despised by the Jews of Jesus’ day. They were foreigners
and outsiders.
And yet one of “them” provided care for the man
who fell in with robbers. Who are the many unknown (and
maybe undesirable) who provide all types of care for us?
In what ways are we the beneficiaries of countless good
“Samaritans?”
The author Father Peter Scagnelli has another
way again of looking at it. He says that the lawyer asks
the wrong question. For the disciple of Jesus the question
is not, “Who is my neighbor?” but “Who needs me to be a
neighbor?”
~ Fr. McNamara
Pre-Registration for RCIA
(Christian Initiation of Adults)
The Rites of Christian Initiation of Adults is one of
the most significant legacies of the Second Vatican
Council. It is, in brief, the process, journey of faith
by which we initiate new members into the Catholic
Church. Conversion is at the heart of the process,
consequently, it involves more that passing on
knowledge. It involves faith and community sharing,
reflection on experience and Gospel values. It is a
way of BEING Church.
If you are interested in the Catholic Church and you
are:
• An unbaptized person
• A baptized Christian of another denomination
• A baptized Catholic never having received
Eucharist
• Or if you are interested in becoming more spiritual in your faith
You are invited to join our RCIA Group that will
begin September 12th. We will meet every
Wednesday evening for two hours at 7:30 p.m. in
the Parish Hall Veranda Room. For further information, please call 340-2087. If you leave your name
and address, a registration form will be sent to you.
Please spread the word,
invite an interested friend to be part of this
year’s RCIA journey towards sacraments.
