Join your WDC DG Alumnae sisters and collegians from American University for a fun evening with fellow DG Alumna and author Maria Murnane. Maria will discuss her award-winning novel Perfect on Paper, the tale of one woman’s dating perils and quest for the perfect life. Maria is a graduate of UC Berkeley and received her master’s degree from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University. Like the main character in Perfect on Paper, Maria spent a few years in sports PR before she quit her job and ended up in Argentina for a year playing semi-pro soccer. Bored with the books she was reading, Maria decided to write and eventually publish her own book. Maria will also talk about ditching the rat race with no idea what to do (other than not to go to work anymore) and how her adventures led her to write this novel. Each year we collect donations to put towards toys and gifts for visually impaired children attending CLB’s Children’s Holiday Party in December. DG Sweet Peas welcomes members and their little ones (ages baby through kindergarten) the first Friday of every month at an event designed to entertain both. This fall, we introduce DG Moms Night Out! Line up a babysitter and meet other DG moms during the evening for food, drink and a little break with those who understand the madness! Activities planned for the year include rock climbing, a winery tour, and cultural events. Twenty20 is for members in their 20s who want to spend less than $20 on an activity or event. Mommy and Me is a group for DG moms and their wee ones. Columbia Lighthouse for the Blind - Readers & Friendly Visitors Program—Participants in the Readers & Friendly Visitors volunteer program are adult volunteers who are matched one-on-one with blind or visually impaired adults. Volunteers arrange weekly meetings with clients at their homes to assist with activities, such as reading mail, grocery shopping or running errands. If you are interested in learning more about this opportunity, sign up for the next volunteer orientation! New volunteers will learn about CLB and about being a guide to an individual with a visual impairment. Helen Palmer Kettler Scholarship The Northern Virginia alumnae chapter annually offers a $1000 scholarship to any Delta Gamma alumna or collegian residing in Northern Virginia.
