Welcome
The Nuclear Society of Slovenia in association with the Jožef Stefan Institute, Reactor Engineering
Division, cordially invites you to attend the 22nd International Conference Nuclear Energy for New
Europe. The conference will be held in the beautiful alpine resort of Bled during September 9-12, 2013.
It is our pleasure to announce that this year’s conference is under the honourable sponsorship of his
Excellency Borut Pahor, the President of the Republic of Slovenia.
The conference of the Nuclear Society of Slovenia is a traditional annual meeting of professionals from
nuclear research and educational institutions, nuclear vendors, utilities and regulatory bodies. It attracts
participants from all around Europe and worldwide. The topics discussed are general and include reactor
physics, thermal hydraulics, probabilistic safety assessment, severe accidents, nuclear fusion, nuclear
power plant operation, nuclear materials, waste management and new reactor designs.
This year, the leading theme of the conference is New Generation(s) for Better Future. The needs for a
sustainable and safe utilization of nuclear energy in the future will be highlighted at the round table
discussion. Eight invited lecturers covering prominent and timely topics on safety research, safety
assessment capabilities, support to plant operation and human and scientific resources, will also discuss
about the needs for the use of nuclear energy today, tomorrow and in the future. In addition, 35 oral
presentations will be presented in eleven plenary sessions, covering variety of topics. Moreover around
150 posters will be presented during three poster sessions. To offer the poster presenters better
chances to attract attention with their work, each poster session will be combined with the coffee break
and the best posters will be awarded. Additionally, the traditional contest of young authors will be a
great opportunity for the new generation of experts to promote their ideas and research. We are very
pleased that more than 30 young authors indicated their intention to participate in the contest.
We are looking forward to see you all in Bled in September.
Yours sincerely,
Dr. Mitja Uršič
Organizing committee chair
Prof. Dr. Leon Cizelj

Round table discussion: New generation(s) for better future?
The round table discussion will be held in Hotel Golf, Jupiter Hall. It is scheduled for Monday, September
9, from 16:00 to 17:30. The discussion will be open for the public.
Topic
Nuclear energy is expected to remain an essential source of competitive and environmentally friendly
primary energy for the decades or even centuries to come.
Sustainable and safe utilization of nuclear energy will require new generations of experts and new
generations of reactors. Together, the new generations of experts and new generations of reactors are
seen as essential prerequisites for the expansion of nuclear generation capacities worldwide.
The main question tackled at the round table will be how to secure the new generations of experts,
reactors and power.
