Starodavni grad stoji sredi mestnega jedra gorenjske prestolnice Kranja na skalni vzpetini, ki se dviga nad sotočjem rek Save in Kokre. Autumn 2010 marks the end of Khislstein Castle’s complete renovation. The ancient castle stands in the very centre of Kranj, Gorenjska’s capital, atop a rocky promontory which rises above the confluence of the Sava and Kokra rivers. In the renovated areas of the castle the Gorenjska Museum has prepared a permanent exhibit, which, in approximately 1,500 square metres, and with 1,500 objects on display, takes us through 1,500 years of Gorenjska’s history. Razstavna zgodba najprej prikaže naravne danosti gorenjske pokrajine, popelje nas v čas naseljevanja prvih prednikov Slovencev, nato nas pouči o življenju na gradovih in stiskah kmečkega prebivalstva. Predstavljeni so odmevni industrijski dosežki gorenjskih podjetij in tovarn. Muzejski sprehod skozi čas pa se zaključi z vstopom Slovenije v Evropsko unijo. www.gorenjski-muzej.si Revija Salon Slovenija Magazine The story of the exhibit first and foremost demonstrates the natural features of Gorenjska’s countryside, taking us back to the time when the first ancestors of the Slovenes settled the area, and then educates us about life at castles and the hardships of the farming population. An image of medieval Kranj is presented, and one can see how people once travelled and transported goods. The exhibitors have given great attention to trading and the period at the beginning of the Industrial Age, which so influenced Kranj’s development. The exhibit also pays homage to Gorenjska’s great people, credited for the formation of Slovenia and for the existence for all that is Slovenian. Guests can, among other things, enter an actual farmer’s house and get acquainted with the way brides were once prepared for their weddings, or marvel at the refined details of a bourgeois salon from the time of our most famous poet, France Prešeren. The story of the new permanent exhibit also touches on the memory of the misery of factory workers, and the horrors of both World Wars. Resounding industrial achievements by Gorenjska’s companies and factories also receive mention. Even Slovenia’s ten-day war of independence in 1991 has its own place at the exhibit; a time when the Gorenjska territory played a crucial role. The museum’s stroll through time concludes with Slovenia’s entry into the European Union. Arhiv/Archive: NUK Podobe slovenskih krajev nekoč Past Images of Slovenian Landscapes An exhibition of 18th and 19th century vedutas and postcards of Slovenian landscapes is being prepared at the Slovenian National and University Library in Ljubljana. These are completely different images of the Slovenian landscape than the ones we know today. The veduta is a particular kind of artistic representation of a landscape, which became extremely popular in 19th century Slovenia. The opening of the railway connection between Vienna to Trieste had a special meaning for the development of this type of painting. The train route allowed painters to travel through and paint the settlements and countryside that were removed from other roadways but made accessible by the railway. The outpouring of this type of landscape painting began to slow at the end of the 19th century, gradually being overshadowed by the development of photography. The oldest veduta in the exhibition was painted by Leopold Wiser in 1762 and its subject is what is today known as the Selo Manor in Ljubljana. In those days, the building was used as the Royal-Imperial drapery house of Carniola. www.nuk.uni-lj.si Stalna razstava, Ljubljanski grad Arhiv/Archive: NUK Slovenci imamo od srede junija predstavljeno svojo zgodovino v celoviti stalni razstavi na Lubljanskem gradu. The exhibit, with the title Slovenian History, which was put together by historian Božo Repe and his co-workers over a period of three years, took shape with the cooperation of museums and private collectors from all across Slovenia. Many exhibits were donated for the display, some were also purchased. On display in 300 square metres of space there are original objects, replicas, items which can actually be touched and inspected, other interactive components, and multimedia presentations, which are also adapted for children and people with special needs. The exhibit is bilingual and equipped with audio guides. Everything is organised chronologically and divided into to six sections, from prehistoric times to today. Letnico 1011 nosi namreč darilna listina rimsko-nemškega cesarja Henrika II, s katero je območje blejskega gradu skupaj z utrdbo prišlo v last briksenških škofov. In 2011 Bled Castle will celebrate an important anniversary: a thousand years from the moment it was first mentioned in historical written records. Namely, the year 1011 carried with it a deed of donation from the German Holy Roman Emperor Henry II, with which the area surrounding Bled Castle, together with the fortification, came into the possession of the bishops of Brixen. According to the date it is first mentioned, Bled Castle has a place of honour as one of the oldest preserved castles in Slovenia. Revija Salon Slovenija Magazine The rocky ascent, which is elevated 130 metres above the lake, and with Bled Castle standing at its peak, was already inhabited by our predecessors in ancient times. Due to its attractive and strategically important lie, ancient settlements placed a fortified stronghold on the spot. Throughout the centuries its shape changed markedly and the fortification, with its defensive walls, was joined by new buildings which were – after numerous additions and alterations – given their characteristic likeness in the 17th century. Throughout its rich history Bled Castle has accompanied and helped to create life in Bled. It preserves the memory of historical events and the life of the castle’s lords. This also includes the romantic legend of the famous Bled hand-bell, which grants hidden desires. Today the castle represents one of the most visited places of note in Slovenia. Within it, is possible to visit the museum, which maintains the exhumed heritage of our ancestors from the Bronze Age onwards. We can treat ourselves in the castle restaurant, and in the wine cellar it is possible to sample selected Slovenian wines. Both the castle printing press and herb gallery can be visited, and, to top it off, all can enjoy the unforgettable view of the dark blue surface of the lake, extensive forests, and the mountains in the background. In Austria’s Minimundus one can also marvel at the miniature copy of Bled Castle, placed side by side with other man-made wonders of the world. In 2011 Bled will come alive with numerous events, which will honour the momentous anniversary of this exceptional building. 7 oGLAS BLED pošlje po maulu TIC Bled Cesta svobode 11, 4260 BLED, tel. +386 4 5741 122 tdbled@telemach.net, www.bled.si Revija Salon Slovenija Magazine 8 novice in novosti | news and novelties Terapevtska magnetna resonanca v Termah Olimia Za prožnost sklepov in hrbtenice vse do visoke starosti, za aktivne športnike, za pomoč pri zdravljenju poškodb sklepov in kosti, je prava revolucija metoda MBST, ki vzpodbuja obnovo hrustancev in izboljšuje kakovost kosti. Poleg plavalnih reprezentanc Slovenije, Rusije, Belorusije, Poljske in Kazahstana so nad Ptujem navdušeni nogometaši. The infrastructure for sports in Ptuj and the surrounding area can fulfil even the most demanding conditions for preparing world-class athletes, and has been recognised by many European clubs. On top of the Slovenian, Russian, Belorussian, Polish, and Kazakhstan swim teams, football players have also been impressed by Ptuj. For already some time, Grand Hotel Primus has been considered the home base for the Slovenian national football team, and this year they hosted the Reading English Club and Russian premier league team FC Sibir. However, their most resounding response was received when they hosted Spain’s Valencia Football Club in July. More than 30 football players were extremely impressed with their stay in Grand Hotel Primas and with the training, which took place on the pitch in Kidričev. “Because of the summer heat in Spain, we must go elsewhere to train. Last time we visited Holland, this time Slovenia. We’re not sorry that we did. We feel great in Ptuj, and have everything we need for excellent training. Also, the games with other teams were also very beneficial,” said the club’s trainer, Unai Emery. With this recognition Ptuj’s mayor, Štefan Čelan, gave the footballers traditional Slovenian Kurent masks to protect their club from evil spirits and bring them success. “I hope that their power will really work. All of us agree that we have never had such excellent training conditions, and we hope that we will return to Slovenia again before next season,” said club star Asier del Horno upon leaving. GLAMPING, a new form of camping that comes from the USA, is becoming increasingly popular in Europe. The word is comprised of “glam-orous” and “camp-ing” and means “glamorous camping.” Bled Camp is now offering glamping units on their site. This year for the first time the camp has set up two wooden tents that provide guests with a higher level of comfort than standard tents but at the same time provide a direct connection to nature. The tents are made according to the principles of indigenous temporary units used by loggers that in the original design were covered with tree bark and were called kožarica, which might be loosely translated as skin hut. Each kožarica is furnished with exclusively natural material. Unfinished larch is used for the construction and interior furnishings, the bedding and towels are made from bio linen, and the pillows from spelt. A sail made of jute is extended outside the hut to create a pleasant shaded area. In addition, each kožarica is equipped with an outdoor cushion for lying on the grass and watching the stars, not to mention binoculars with which guests can observe the numerous types of birds that return to the camp each year to nest. For a truly unusual pleasure, each kožarica comes with an outdoor bath made from beech wood where water is heated by a wood-burning stove. The huts are heated and thus are also suitable for romantic autumn or even winter camping. V naslednji sezoni bodo projekt nadgradili z dodatnimi dvajsetimi enotami. Eko vasica bo dopolnjena z avtohtono in plodonosno vegetacijo, kar bo gostom zagotavljalo zadostno mero intimnosti in obenem pozitivno vplivalo na prisotnost ptic v kampu. Vsaka kožarica bo v centralnem sanitarnem objektu imela svojo kopalnico, opremljeno s tušem, kadjo, dvema umivalnikoma in ločenim straniščem. An additional twenty units are scheduled to be completed next season. The eco-village will be landscaped with indigenous and fertile vegetation that will provide guests with a satisfactory measure of intimacy and at the same time exert a positive influence on bird life in the village. Each kožarica has its own bathroom furnished with shower, bath, two sinks, and a separate toilet located in the central lavoratory station. The kožarica camp will welcome all glamorous campers including world travellers, musicians, those enthused by the singing of birds, and even romantics who want to enjoy the charms of the starry night sky. The largest construction project of late in Slovenia, and the pride of the city of Ljubljana, the Stožice Sports Park, has finally received its first guests: enthusiastic athletes, sports fans, and other visitors as well. On top of the stadium, which reigns supreme with 16,000 seats, and a multipurpose sports arena, which has a 12,500 person capacity for visitors, the sports park is also distinguished by the extensive shopping centre taking shape alongside it, to be accompanied by a parking lot with 3,500 spaces. The project is a new endeavour for the architectural firm Sadar Vuga Architects and in many ways has undoubtedly surpassed many related European projects. The advantage of the new complex will also be the accompanying events – including sporting events the programme foresees a yearly total of 60 affairs. We can also expect excesses in the areas of entertainment and culture, which, from now on in Ljubljana, will also be hosted in a suitable place. After completion, the accompanying park by the stadium will also become the second largest in Ljubljana, with a total of almost 20 hectares of space. Mesarski most, dolg 33, širok pa častitiljivih 17 metrov, je delo arhitekturnega biroja Atelier arhitekti. Pridobitev so nove javne sanitarije in celo dostop do bodočega parkirišča pod tržnico. Among Plečnik’s famous colonnades, in the place where Plečnik himself, almost 100 years ago, predicted a connection between the market and Petkovšek Embankment, there now finally stands a bridge, intended for pedestrians and cyclists. Mesarski Bridge, 33 metres long, and a respectable 17 metres wide, is the work architectural firm Atelier Architects. Beside the two-sided staircase, on the same side as the market in the lower-level areas of the bridge, there is a tidy, well made link to the existing elevator, which leads to Plečnik’s market colonnades. The new acquisition includes new public restrooms and even access to the future parking area, which will be located below the market. Under the bridge there is also a new stop for any watercraft belonging to the city’s water transportation system, which announces a series of new piers along the Ljubljanica. Everything has also been constructed to be fully accessible for the disabled, or anyone with special needs. The beginning of autumn returns to Ljubljana one of its historical stories, embodied by the renovated fountain of Novi Trg Square. The fountain initially stood where Plečnik’s NUK (the national university library) is today. The garden in front of Turjaška Palača (or Auersperg Manor) then boasted of a magnificent fountain, which was divided into three sections: one went to Novi Trg Square, another to the vicinity of the City Museum of Ljubljana, and the remaining section to Krekov Square. Nova vina Strune družine Ščurek New Strune Wines from the Ščurek family Ko violinist z vso strastjo zaigra po strunah, se okoli nas razlijejo prečudoviti zvoki, ko pa zaigra Ščurek (v primorskem narečju je muren ščurek, zato je razpoznavni znak na etiketi vinske hiše Ščurek muren z violino), ustvari harmonijo v vinih. When a violinist plays full of passion on the strings, we are surrounded by wonderful sounds. When Ščurek begins to play (in the Primorska dialect ‘ščurek’ is a cricket, which explains the recognisable image of a cricket with a violin on the Ščurek Winery’s labels), he creates harmony in wines. Pet strun ponazarja pet Ščurkovih sinov, pet vinogradniških leg in pet vrst grozdja, ki zaznamujejo vsako buteljko v novi liniji treh svežih mladostnih Ščurkovih vin (belo, rdeče in rose), ustekleničenih v steklenicah z navojnim zamaškom, ki bo poskrbel, da bo odpiranje še lažje. Strune so lahkotne, prijetne in harmonične, saj so rezultat skrbne nege družine, ki je že dolga leta zavezana vinarstvu. Stalno preigravanje in ljubeča skrb v vinogradih in v kleti v vinih ustvarjata mojstrske harmonije. Strune (the Slovene word for ‘strings’) wines are light, pleasant and harmonious, as they are the result of the diligent care of a family bound to viniculture for many years. One of the special features that excites visitors of the Thermalium wellness centre in Terme 3000 is a Miocene septarian nodule, or concretion, which was found in Slovenske Gorice. The unusual mineral formation, which is a good 15 million years old, was found in 2003 during the construction of a wine road in Slovenske Gorice. Due to its exceptionally large size it is considered to be a septarian nodule of rarity even on a world-wide scale, as similar formations usually measure in at a maximum of 50 cm, while this specimen is more than 100 cm large. The unusual crystallised mineral, cut into two pieces and polished, gives off a special kind of energy and encourages natural regeneration and healing. Lying on the mineral strengthens memory and increases brain activity, returns strength and does away with insomnia. It is similarly beneficial to bones, muscles, and joints, strengthens the heart and improves the immune system. Numerous guests regularly return to Terme 3000, so that their energy and life force may return to them while resting alongside the septarian nodule, which also renews their self-confidence. Work was given to the project by well known Slovenes and hobbyists alike, all addressed by their hedonistic feelings to create. Slovenia’s first Book of Pleasure will be available on November 10, just on time for Maxim Premium’s 15th anniversary. Revija Salon Slovenija Magazine In September a very special private preschool called “My Dreams” opened up its doors. On top of the classic day care offered to a smaller extent in this charming little house on the edge of Ljubljana, the preschool boasts of a bilingual English-Slovene programme. In every group of 10 children there are always two caretakers present: one always speaks Slovenian with the children, the other speaks only English. In addition to the destruction of linguistic barriers, the preschool is also proud of a programme which offers all kinds of possibilities for the development of a child’s potential – besides artistic and speech-related, also physical. To this end, recognised advisor in the area of physical development Andreja Semolič takes care of the children’s exercise programme. These young little talents will also be able to take advantage of organised and guided swimming lessons; they will be able to express themselves through dance, visit the zoo, and even experience a golf course! 23 Slovenija izpod neba Mladinska knjiga, 2010 Pred nami je knjiga izjemnih fotografij fotografa, letalca, popotnika in alpinista, sicer pa diplomiranega biologa Matevža Lenarčiča. After numerous successes and projects encompassing a wider geographical area he has now turned his attention to Slovenia. From his ultra-light aircraft he has photographed the gems of Slovenia’s landscape in anything but an everyday, or typical manner. The book was a work in progress for three years, when he made 220 flights, flew 100,000 km, and took 120,000 pictures. Using luscious aerial shots he guides us through the land along the main waterways in a way that we have never before experienced. “We must take flight in order to take a look at our destiny from under the sky, to show that today’s reality is not absolute; that the world is not merely that which we see, but also that which is unseen. That kind of perspective of Slovenia is majestic,” writes the author in his introduction. At the end of June Australia’s Sydney hosted 20,000 Lions from around the world, all of whom participated in the 93rd Lions Clubs International Convention. The annual event was intended mainly for education and the exchange of knowledge and good practice from the lives of various Lions Clubs, while also being an excellent opportunity to represent Slovenia and its tourism opportunities. To priznanje dodatno bogati praznovanje 20. obletnice lionizma v Sloveniji. V 53 klubih po vsej državi, združenih v Distrikt 129 Slovenija, deluje skoraj 1500 članov, ki so z dobrodelnimi akcijami zbrali in podelili že preko pet milijonov evrov pomoči. For Slovenia, this year’s gathering held special weight and recognition: on top of the designation of the newly elected governor of Slovenian Lions (Anton Horvatič in 2010/2011), the Slovenian district has also been honoured with the election and appointment of international director of Lions Clubs International (LCI) Janez Bohorič, who, in 20 years of personal and active work, has made a significant contribution to the international recognition of Slovenian Lionism. Bohorič sees his role in the international leadership of Lions as a confirmation of the position and high reputation of Slovenia at the International Lions Clubs Convention. “Slovenia has an important role as a mentor and educator. For example, we were responsible for encouraging the spread of Lionism in the region; in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Macedonia, Kosovo, Albania, and in recent years also Armenia, Czech Republic, and Slovakia. In 53 clubs around the country, united by District 129 Slovenia, there are almost 1,500 active members, who with their charitable action have collected and given out more than five million euros of aid.” You have to do a lot of travelling, you see much of the world, and it was precisely that which pulled me in and gave me motivation. That said, I must not forget my amazing family, which has always made me feel good.« Pot do uspeha je vse prej kot lahka in preprosta – sestavljena je iz vzponov in padcev. But that is a part of sports and you have to take it all together. I try, to the best of my abilities, to get through it myself, while also getting a lot of advice from experts. Perhaps I have luck and enough strength to calm myself down in the most critical moments, and focus my thoughts on the run and the slope itself.« Tina Maze se je odločila za pogumno dejanje in oblikovala svojo ekipo. Tina Maze decided on a courageous action and formed her own team. The move was also connected with generous financial means, which are an important part of competitive sports. Considering her accomplishments, we have been convinced that trainer Andrea Massi, with whom she gets along so well professionally and personally, was a good choice. Another contribution is also the arrangement of the situation at the Ski Association of Slovenia. »Letos smo z novim vodstvom Smučarske zveze Slovenije našli skupen jezik, kar je dobra popotnica v prihajajočo sezono, zato se nadejam, da se bom lahko popolnoma »This year, with new leadership at the Ski Alliance of Slovenia we have found a common language, which is a good companion for the coming season. Which translates to successful performances at the biggest competitions, naturally. »Preparations for this year's competitive season already began in the middle of June, first with conditioning training, and by July I had already been on the snow. August preparations in New Zealand were also very useful.« Tina's thoughts, already from summer on, are focused on the prestigious Austrian ski resort Zelden, where this year's first race for the World Cup will take place at the end of October. And from then on, just like every year, she'll be in league with the best of the best. She has a feeling that this year she is exceptionally strong and well prepared, so she is both promising herself and expecting excellent results from the season. As always, she will be accompanied on the runs by loyal fans who create an unbelievable atmosphere, strengthening and raising her motivation and energy levels on her competitive path. Planica, the valley beneath Ponce, which each years hosts the best ski jumpers from around the world, is a source of Slovenian national pride, the foothills beneath the spectacular ski jump attracting more than 100,000 visitors each year. Crowds of sports fans hold their breath under the jump, hoping for new records, crossing their fingers for their favourites, crying when they are unsuccessful. But that’s life – a collection of ups and downs that Planica has experienced throughout its history. And now this source of Slovenian pride is on the brink of great development and change that will bring Planica to the same level as other large, modern, Nordic ski centres. The history of Planica goes back to 1930 when the first ski jump was built under Ponce. Four years later, Stanko Bloudek erected a new 100-metre jump where, in 1933, Sepp Bradl first crossed the magical 100-meter line. Later the brothers Lado and Janez Gorišek built a new jump with the K-spot at 185 metres and, in 1986, Matti Nykanen flew an amazing 191 metres. In 1994, the magic line was moved once again – this time to 200 metres (or 203 to be exact), a jump accomplished for the first time by Toni Nieminen, bringing Planica once again to the centre of world attention. But Planica never rests on its laurels and, in 2005, the world record was extended there to 239 metres, this new record set by Bjorn Einar Romoren. But time keeps moving on and “Club 200” is ancient history. Now only jumps that matter are those that exceed 220 metres. Projekt predvideva obnovo letalnice, velike olimpijske skakalnice – stare Bloudkove velikanke in majhne skakalnice za trening. Skakalnice bodo opremili s plastično maso in keramiko, uredili umetno zasneževanje in razsvetljavo. www.slovenia.info, foto/photo Bobo Čeprav Planico imenujemo zibelka smučarskih poletov, se tam dogaja še vse kaj drugega. Within the framework of the project, a stadium and additional facilities for cross-country skiing will be built, an artificial snow system, a ski lift, a football and athletics stadium, bike and footpaths, a cultural park, and an information centre with restaurants, tourist, and sports services. Everyone who breathes with Planica, so to speak, believes that Planica will, when established as a Nordic sports centre, be lively in both winter and summer and will offer a rich sports program. There will be opportunities throughout the year for athletes and organizers of sports competitions. In collaboration with the Kranj Ski Jump Centre and the Kranj Sports and Economics Gymnasium where the young jumpers are educated, the ski jump school will be renewed along with sports and recreation programs for running, roller blading, cross country skiing, downhill skiing, mountaineering, ball games, and bicycling. Revija Salon Slovenija Magazine A t 2,864 meters above sea level, Mount Triglav is not one of the highest peaks in the Alpine world; nevertheless it is an indispensible part of the Slovenian identity. Although many may laugh at the notorious “rule” that you only become a real Slovenian when you climb to the top of Triglav, the mountain has many meanings for Slovenians. Part of the national coat-of-arms, it has become the symbol of a small nation that, after many centuries of attempted assimilation by other entities, has finally found its own identity and independence. www.slovenia.info, foto/photo K. Kunaver »Greetings from Triglav!« 35 Božansko ime, oblika ali oboje? A God’s Name or Shape or Both? Radi verjamemo, da njegovo ime oživlja spomin na triglavega staroslovanskega boga Triglava, gospodarja zemlje, vode in zraka. Mogočna imena so ljudje v preteklosti dajali krajem, ki so zbujali strahospoštovanje. As to the source of Triglav’s name, educated minds have tried to answer this question since long before the first climber ascended its summit. We like to believe that the name (literally 'Three-headed', or 'Three Heads') keeps alive the memory of the old Slavic three-headed god named Triglav, the lord of the earth, water, and air. In the distant past, people gave powerful names to places that aroused fear and respect. A high many-headed mountain upon which nobody was capable or dared to climb certainly earned a sacred name but there is no direct evidence that the god Triglav was worshipped in these lands. As to how many heads Mount Triglav really has, it depends on the perspective of the observer: from some vantage points there are three, from some two, six and even more »heads«. The first known attempts to conquer Triglav took place during the turbulent times at the end of the 18th century. Many great names in Slovenian lands, such as the industrialist baron Sigmund Zois, the playwright and historian Anton Tomaž Linhart, the newspaperman Valentin Vodnik, the doctor and natural scientist Balthazar Hacquet, have been closely linked to the desire to explore Triglav’s slopes, its summit, and its history. This was in part because of the wild beauty of Alpine nature, in part because of the mountain’s symbolic importance to the awakening Slovenian national identity, and in part because of research into potential sites of iron ore. Many tried unsuccessfully to conquer the summit before four Bohinj mountain guides succeeded on August 26, 1778: hunter Štefan Rožič, miners Matevž Kos and Luka Korošec, and the physician Lovrenc Willomitzer. They are described in historical accounts as the Four Courageous Men, the first to step on the summit of Mount Triglav. During the century that followed, high mountain tourism blossomed. Triglav acquired many enthusiastic friends as well as organized trails while several passes below the summit were dynamited for safety reasons. www.slovenia.info, foto/photo J. Aljažev stolp je bil večkrat obnovljen, v obdobju socialistične Jugoslavije prebarvan rdeče in opremljen tudi z veliko zvezdo, v samostojni Sloveniji pa je zopet dobil svojo prvotno sivo barvo. Aljaž’s Tower On August 7, 115 years will have passed since this shelter for mountaineers was built on the summit of Triglav. Since then, Aljaž’s Tower has become a true Triglav icon. It was renovated several times during the Yugoslav era, painted red, and adorned with a large socialist star. It was refurbished in its original gray colour after Slovenian independence. Since 1999, the tower has been designated a national cultural monument. Today Triglav is one of the most popular destinations in the Slovenian mountains. During the summer months, it is sometimes difficult to avoid crowds of people on its slopes. The ascent from the valley to the top requires excellent physical preparation and discipline. Above all it demands respect for proper mountaineering standards. The colder months bring quiet to Triglav, but even in unfavourable weather – cold, winds that blow 200 kilometres per hour, and snow – a few enthusiasts make it to the top, defying nature and conquering their own limits. There was a never realized plan from the beginning of the 20th century, made during the time when Alpine tourism first blossomed, to bring the idyll of the Julian Alps to the masses. The plan, unthinkable in contemporary times, involved the construction of train tracks or a road and cable from Bohinjska Bistrica to the top of Triglav. The last station was intended to be only a few metres below Aljaž’s Tower. In accordance with this plan, Triglav would have also been graced with a hundred-metre long circular viewing gallery and a restaurant for hungry and thirsty tourists. The project was approved in 1907 by the then railway ministry of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy, but thankfully it remained in the drawer. Med drugim kolo, osel in celo vojaški top. Many things have found their way up Triglav, including a bike, a donkey, and even a military cannon. On Canoneer’s Day, October 6, 1962, a group of military mountaineers performed an amazing feat. They succeeded in bringing a 1,200-kilogram cannon to the summit of Triglav and firing off three salutes before bringing the cannon back down to the valley again. This test of courage and endurance was exacerbated by fickle Mother Nature and a sudden deterioration in the weather. A snowstorm made the already challenging descent even more difficult. Žalostna statistika A Sad Statistic Strela, infarkt, zdrs ali padajoče kamenje so najpogostejši vzroki smrtnih nesreč v gorah. Lightning, heart attacks, accidents, and falling rocks are the most frequent causes of death in the mountains. Triglav leads Slovenia in these sad statistics, its rock faces having taken approximately 120 lives. Lighting especially likes to strike on Triglav. The stories of castles are not only romantic narratives about nobles, princesses, lonely women and heroic men. Instead they often reveal a slightly more bitter sense of the inescapable fleetingness of the world we know. Clans and families have come and gone in them, generations have been born and died, and in the end only the walls remain, and even they no longer serve the purpose they were once intended to serve. In this regard, we must also not overlook the terrible impact on Slovenian lands of the years of World War Two during which many castles were destroyed or damaged by military force. After the war, most of these luxurious buildings were nationalized by the then government of socialist Yugoslavia. The permitted looting and destruction of these buildings was only one way of actually and symbolically damaging members of nobility and other wealthy representatives of what was then viewed as an unjust and inequality society. The retreat from the city is worthwhile just for the illusion that the contemporary world does not extend into this unusual and charming countryside. Settlements and forests alternate with each other, along with fields and meadows that are periodically inundated during the rainy season. The rich archaeological heritage in this region tells of life in Antiquity and before. A network of important merchant routes connecting the Adriatic Sea with Central European lands and the Baltic Sea intersected here. In the 11th century, on one of these routes – in the place where there is a source of pure water – the story of Snežnik Castle began. The occupants of the fortified building, locating on a natural stone promontory and surrounded by water on all sides, offered shelter and protection from robbers to the many travellers passing by. In subsequent centuries the appearance and significance of the building changed, as did the owners. Seven different noble families cared for the castle and for the extensive wooded estates around it, some more and some less successfully, until 1853 when Otto Victor, the Prince of Schönburg–Waldenburg, who had emerged from an old line of Saxon nobility, bought it at auction in a fairly dilapidated state. His son, Prince Georg, entirely renovated the castle, managed approximately 15.000 hectares of the estate, and employed several expert foresters who, with prudent management methods, helped Prince Georg to create one of the most beautiful and economically successful estates in Carniola. Revija Salon Slovenija Magazine Matija Pavlovec 44 45 During the castle's renovation, which took place from 1860 to 1864, Georg moved to Snežnik with his wife, Princess Luiza BentheimTecklenburg. The family then returned to the renovated castle every year on holiday during hunting season. It was a time of economic prosperity in the Loška valley, which is remembered fondly by the area's inhabitants to this day. The Prince, a progressive man and excellent manager, took excellent care of all who worked on his estates. He sent workers to be educated, he established the first Slovenian school of forestry, and even maintained his own stable of purebred Arabian horses. Georg’s mare, Titania, had saved his life in battle during her years of war service and so became an honorary member of the royal family. The war left her without a tail but she earned her lifelong freedom on the Snežnik estate and all the food she could eat. She walked freely through the park and people said that she waited for her master each morning in front of the castle and they went for a walk together. Georg’s three children successfully continued this princely chapter of the Snežnik story until it violently ended with the Second World War. Georg’s heir Prince Herman died in 1943 in the family manor of Hermsdorf in Dresden, Germany. His brother, Prince Ulrik, and sister, Princess Ana, never returned to Snežnik. Fortunately, the sad fate that threatened many castles was prevented by its last manager, Leon Schauta, a forest engineer with great courage and dedication. He prevented all of the warring parties on Slovenian lands – German, Italian, and Partisan forces – from destroying the castle. Inhabitants in the area said that he even knelt in front of German tanks, pointed at the castle walls, and explained to the officer in command that the owner of the castle was, after all, a German and they should spare his property. Later he somehow managed to convince the victorious Partisan forces that, likewise, they shouldn’t destroy something that was already theirs. We have Leon Shauta to thank for allowing us a glimpse into this fascinating history, which we can relive as we enjoy a guided walk through the castle rooms. After the war, the castle was managed for Yugoslav state protocol as a hunting estate for the political elite, and during this period many precious items disappeared. Some of the furniture migrated to the state-owned Brdo Castle near Kranj. What remained was a feeling of domesticity that shone from some lovely pieces of furniture, large ceramic stoves, alcoves for socializing, and a dining room with original menus from the beginning of the 20th century, family coats-of-arms, gorgeous views… in short, all that leant a sense of good feeling and comfort to Georg’s family. Every building needs people to exist. Today Snežnik is given life by the employees of the Slovenian National Museum who have now become a part of Snežnik’s happy story of survival. These employees have organized a space in the castle for social events and weddings, preserved lively connections with the heirs of the SchönburgWaldenburg family, maintained the unique natural characteristics around the castle, recorded all that is known about the castle, and even tried to find a part of the lost castle inventory. The renovated auxiliary building next to the castle, which in the 19th century served as a stable, and later provided space for the forestry school, will be designated as a tourist site, which will provide guests with the opportunity to remain for several days and enjoy the beauty of the castle and surrounding landscape. Strolling the walkways of the castle park, the tree-lined paths and the meadows may even lure guests on to longer forest treks. The E6 European walking trail and Krpan trail both run past Snežnik Castle. www.nms.si Revija Salon Slovenija Magazine Matjaž Banič Arhitekt, režiser, scenograf Architect, director, scenographer Polona Bohorič Osebni arhiv/Personali Archives: Matjaž Banič, Peter Uhan Matej Filipčič P ravi, da zida gledališče. Filipčičeva predstava sooči dve Tosci: dramsko igralko (Jožico Avbelj) in operno pevko (Mirjam Tola). Tosca se sprašuje o svojem poklicu. O krutosti in lepoti. Tosca is the Matej Filipčič’s most recent original project. The production has been hosted at festivals in France and Italy. This year, based on a 2009 appearance at the Napoli Teatro Festival, Filipčič’s Tosca received the award of the Cultural Classic association for the best international performance. In its first incarnation, the opera Tosca was a theatrical play written by the French playwright Victorien Sardou. Not only great opera divas have shone in the role of Tosca, but also great actresses, among them the renowned Sarah Bernhard. Filipčič presents two Toscas: the dramatic actress Jožica Avbelj and the opera singer Mirjam Tola. Tosca wonders about her calling. About cruelty and beauty. About the idea of “being a diva” letting in the mindless adoration and mindless hatred of her public and competitors. The production Marie Antoinette, which will premiere this November at the Knight’s Hall in Križanke at No. 1 French Revolution Square in Ljubljana (an interesting coincidence), is conceived as a multimedia talk show. After more than a hundred years, one of the most controversial figures in history, a French queen, a pop and fashion icon of her age, an adored and despised symbol of society and politics, and the queen of wasteful luxury, will have the opportunity to cast some light on her role in the events of the 18th century. Events that changed the course of the history and which demand to be compared to the current era of economic crisis and social unrest. Peca is the second tallest peak in the northern Karavanke mountain range. It is imposing, very steep on the northern and southern sides, considerably less to the east and west. The national border confers much of the mountain to Austria. The Austrian side is oriented toward skiing, while the Slovenian side, above the settlements of Črna and Mežica, has been exploited and drilled in the search for lead and zinc. The animal and plant population on Mount Peca is varied and diverse. There are several swampy grasslands that offer refuge to endangered plants near the mountain’s numerous springs. The legend of King Matjaž tells of a man who courageously, wisely, and mercifully ruled Slovenian lands and was much loved by his people. Folk narratives also sing the praises of his powerful passion for his great love and chosen wife, Alenčica, with whom he would have happily spent his life were it not for the envy of other rulers who drew him into war. Thus Matjaž, who was attacked by a powerful enemy, had to retreat beneath Mount Peca – a mountain which opened itself to the hero and hid him and his army in one of its deepest hollows. Matjaž then fell asleep at a stone table in the hollow and legend says that he will only awaken when his beard grows so long that it winds nine times around the table. Then he will come out of the mountain, defeat his enemies, banish injustice from the world, and bring light and good values to the earth once again. Delujeta izjemno usklajeno in povezano. Mount Peca In the story about King Matjaž, it is Mount Peca that offers him refuge. This narrative contains veiled representations about the end of the world and a saviour. Other national heroes who sleep in mountains include the Breton King Arthur who was said to have rested in Mount Etna, the Danish King Holger, the Czech King Vaclav, the Gypsy Penga, Charles the Great, Frederick Barbarossa, and Frederick II. Even Attila the Hun’s grave is said to be beneath a mountain at the centre of the earth. It is also thought that Mount Peca is a cosmic mountain that brings transformation. Three years ago, the discovery of the image of King Matjaž carved over time by nature into the face of Mount Peca echoed throughout Slovenia. Inhabitants of the area were excited by this sign that Matjaž might be awakening and would soon bring peace to the world again. Alenka and Matjaž At first glance, Alenka and Matjaž are a completely ordinary couple that work together – each in his own way – and yet they collaborate in an exceptionally close and coordinated manner. What distinguishes them from other well matched couples and also earns the exceptional respect of everyone who knows them, is their special calling. Alenka dedicates her work with energies toward individuals, whereas Matjaž focuses on the energies of specific places that strongly affect everyone that lives or works in them. Their gifts with energy flows and tranquillity are nourished by regular meditation and by passing on their knowledge and study about the harmonious functioning of human beings. Together they have made their own Peca that protects and helps many people. Through the international project P.E.C.A., they teach people how to help themselves and also offer additional help – through processes and products that they have researched and developed on their own over the years. An activated P.E.C.A. symbol on various products increases the amount of clean energy in the physical and mental body, or aura, of a person. Revija Salon Slovenija Magazine 53 P.E.C.A. Pomirja človeka, ga energijsko okrepi, notranje uravnoteži in zaščiti pred zunanjimi negativnimi energijami. P.E.C.A. The beginning of the product line to enhance individual energy flow came in 1996 when, during deep meditation, Matjaž received an image and knowledge about the functioning of pure energy in the form of the symbol P.E.C.A. The symbol creates an electromagnetic field (waves) and carries a strong dose of energy information that creates the harmonious functioning of energy in both animate and inanimate nature. The symbol, in order to function, requires no metal or magnetic material, which is why both children and adults can use it. For the successful transfer of the energy information onto a person, the symbol must be situated in an energy centre. This is why the activated P.E.C.A. symbol is most effective in undergarments and socks. Because of the positive effects of the energy symbol in liquids and food, products include energy coasters and covers. Over time, other products with specific purposes have been developed. Expert scientific analysis of the P.E.C.A. symbol confirms that it provides pure energy information and energy. It calms a person, strengthens his or her energy, provides inner balance, and protects from negative energy forces. In 1999, Alenka, following her own years of research work, developed the P.E.C.A. program and method. The P.E.C.A. program is based on four foundations that should be followed step by step to achieve inner peace, vitality, creativity, and advancement (Peace, Energy, Creativity, Advancement - P.E.C.A.). The goal is to provide a theoretical basis and practical energy knowledge for holistic personal development. The program is step and step, based on knowledge about the human energy fields and the proper functioning of the individual in everyday life. This is the only way in which the individual can acquire internal peace and harmony. The program brings together athletes, businesspeople, therapists and other sensitive people who are looking for a way out of own their difficulties, or just as often assistance for their own personal advancement. The P.E.C.A. method (or Professional Energy Creativity Assistance) presents direct individual help for energy challenged people who need immediate energy support or assistance. Alenka has developed a precisely implemented structure of expert energy medicine which includes: an energy survey of the person, clearing of blockages, vibration healing of the energy field, the centring of an individual's energy for balanced functioning, and the means to protect one's own energy. With this method, an individual can progress exceptionally quickly and be relieved of his or her difficulties. The International University for Complementary Medicine in Sri Lanka: on the basis of her research work, Alenka earned her doctorate in Complementary Medicine (D.Sc.). It is impossible to be in all places at the same time and that is why they have decided to convey their knowledge to students and train them for independent work. Their vision, according to Alenka, is to establish an open international centre, which is large enough for their needs and where she could combine and realise all the work, that they feel called to do in one place. Perhaps in Slovenia, perhaps somewhere else. Alenka and Matjaž are themselves still learning. During their development, they have had many teachers and have often travelled to the other side of the world to meet with them. Their students will work closely with them but will also contribute their own individual research and innovative approach. There is no shortage of ideas and desire, and every day more products are developed with the purpose of relieving and improving the lives of those who use them. Is it possible that King Matjaž is, at least symbolically, actually awakening? Revija Salon Slovenija Magazine 55 In mi? And us? In tavala v labirintu »pravih« in »nepravih« znanj. Ob srečanju s Tadejo (učenko Alenke in Matjaža) sem utihnila ob jasnih odgovorih, s katerimi me je pospremila do vrat učenja P.E.C.A. Ever since I was aware of myself, I struggled with the world and with the beliefs that are received as dogma in this world. That is why, since I was a teenager, I have always looked for my own answers. I have waded into the labyrinth of “true” and “false” knowledge. It is difficult to recognize what is true in the crowd of healers, teachers, and teachings. There were many whom I hoped would help me arrive at the goal. But it didn’t happen. Not with those who had recommendations from people I trust, or those whom had masses gathered around them, or those offering healing miracles. After my meeting with Tadeja (a student of Alenka and Matjaž), I became quiet listening to the clear answers she gave while accompanying me to the gates of P.E.C.A. knowledge. No, the mountain had not opened for me (yet), but I had received my first lesson: the simple statement that I must find the answers and help inside of myself. For me, it was very important that this knowledge not be comprised of only theoretical explanations, the why, but also something practical, the how. And the emphatic message: don’t look for shortcuts! P.E.C.A. leads us to the recognition that inside each person there is an extraordinary point of energy, stronger than anything you can find outside yourself. Our energy system, if we do not soil and clog it, is a strong flow that connects us to cosmic and terrestrial energies – in the environment and nature. Therefore it makes the most sense to search for the power, the answers to questions, and the direction of our development within ourselves. It is true that people often become confused during the search and cannot do things alone or don’t know how to help themselves. At such times, it is wise to look outside for help. Or seek refuge in the shelter of the cosmic mountain. Naš energijski sistem, če ga nismo zasmetili in zamašili, je močan tok, s katerim smo vpeti v kozmične in zemeljske energije – v okolje in naravo. The P.E.C.A. symbol has a varied and rich field of information, which condenses and strengthens a person's bio-field – their aura. The use of the P.E.C.A. symbol on products strengthens the awareness of an individual, reinforcing that he or she is, among billions of people in the world, still unique. False copies Matjaž Banič Not only is theft unethical but in the case of the P.E.C.A. symbol, it also makes no sense. The original symbol (protected by international copyright) acquires its working power only with proper activation, which is protected. Of course, individual copies of the symbol do occur. Although a copy may be physically identical, it doesn’t possess the same energy power. It may be an effort to manipulate people who are not familiar with the original source and energy value of the activated P.E.C.A. symbol, so be attentive! Revija Salon Slovenija Magazine Vladimir Miloradovič vinske resnice | wine truths Vladimir Miloradovič 60 Oče in sin / Father and Son Vesna & Aleš Kristančič Movia je zgodba tradicije in inovacije, zgodba spoštovanja in drznosti. Predvsem pa je zgodba. Očarala je vsakogar, ki je obiskal posestvo in ji prisluhnil ter se prepustil strastnemu toku besed, s katerimi zgodbo svoje vinske hiše in vin opiše Aleš Kristančič, danes ključni nosilec blagovne znamke, njen ambasador in kreator hkrati, ki ob nesebični podpori svoje čudovite žene Vesne osvaja ves svet. Movia is a story of tradition and innovation, a story of respect and daring. Above all it is a story. Movia has charmed all who visit the estate and hear the story, giving into the passionate flow of words with which Aleš Kristančič tells the story of the winery and the wine. Today Kristančič is the key carrier of the trademark, its ambassador and creator, who, with his wife Vesna’s selfless support, is seducing the whole world. The Movia estate and its vineyards have been located in the noble landscape of Goriška brda since 1700. In 1820, it came into the possession of the Kristančič family through marriage. It comprises 18 hectares of land, half of which falls in Collio, on the Italian side of Brda. Tradition and the age of the vineyards, which the Kristančič family has been lovingly cultivating throughout the years, is the added value that gives the wines that “something special” that couldn’t be replaced by anything else. Namely, the wine is born in a winery that derives good substance from good vines and that draws from the earth all the necessary minerals to round out its flavour. The wines mature in the cellar and in the Movia cellar they are very comfortable. Revija Salon Slovenija Magazine Movia wines are created with passion and that is why they have such passionate flavours, flavours that awaken the spirit and in which dreams are born. A passionate love of wine and the desire to make the best wine possible. This is what drew Aleš Kristančič to introduce new techniques, to combine the fruit of known traditions with contemporary methods. Together they give birth to completely new, fresh approaches that create pure new tastes and an ever purer and more natural wine. Lunar, for example, is bottled magic. A wine that, in its journey from the grape to the bottle, is never touched by human hands. The winemaker magically leaves the process of creating the wine to nature alone and amiably allows the Moon to gradually complete the process. The result is a miraculous wine that carries within it the spirit of the grape and is not ashamed to be itself, to lure us with its unique bouquet and taste. Vladimir Miloradovič 61 Puro, Movia’s sparkling wine, also has its own story. Its purity has written a new chapter in the book of sparkling wines and already has many imitators. Movia is not only wine; it is also people. Aleš and Vesna in their passion and warmth are lovers of all fine things and gather wonderful people around them. They host many more and less known guests. Occasionally, crowned heads and presidential power have been included among them. The Movia estate was also the headquarters of the first Slow Food movement in Slovenia, Aleš having been the leader of the Slow Food movement in Slovenia since 1996. Movia, on occasion, also hosts dinners for small organized groups. Vina Movia prevzamejo, ker v sebi utelešajo vso strast, predanost, srčnost in iskrenost ljudi, ki jih ustvarjajo. So velika, ker jih ustvarjajo veliki ljudje. Movia wines are captivating because they embody all the passion and dedication, heart and sincerity of the people who make them. They are great because great people create them. And these people are the guarantee of the future. As long as Movia remains in the Kristančič family, there will be enough magic, passion and sincerity in the wine for all of us to enjoy. One of the unique things about this place is the little Hotel Wellness Centre, intended for personal enjoyment – best for groups of two. Or there is the Prlekija World of Saunas, which, in authentically designed spaces, offers thematic sauna experiences. Have you ever tried to truly warm yourself up in a »Črna kühja«? The area really reminds one of an ancient kitchen, except that here, nothing close to food is cooked... So, those responsible for cooking are in the restaurant, where, according to »family principles«, they pay special attention to every single guest, thereby adding spice to what is already a proverbially rich culinary tradition in the region. For any enthusiastic cooks among the guests there is the exiting experience of a Saturday cooking competition for 'bograč' (a kind of stew). In the restaurant they are not the slightest bit shy when it comes to larger festivities, like anniversaries, business entertainment, or even weddings. It is no coincidence that all hotel guests are invited every Saturday to a picnic, where they are shown how people can experience gastronomic enjoyment in the embrace of nature, while the hotel staff devote themselves to preparing unforgettable parties. And the circle is once again complete. Tukaj imajo namreč otroci svoj rajski svet. Despite the numerous ideas and accomplishments, which testify to the positive nature the Banovci Thermal Spa team, there is one that stands out. So much so, that it has distinguished their offer from others and is fast becoming almost legendary, as every year satisfied guests return to it, joined by their friends. These guests are from 3 to 15 years of age. When they get older, they will be enticed by other stories, but later on they will surely return, in the role of parents. Basically, children here have their own little version of paradise. In seveda, v iskanju novih zalog Ruma. In seveda kup dogodivščin. If, in the middle of summer, close to Banovci, you run into a group of children with red bandanas wrapped around their heads, you have found yourself in the middle of a gang of pirates, led by the friendly and curious pirate Eddy. He is from the Spa, but his territory is much greater, as he travels around the world in search of the cowardly pirate Pepet, with whom he has much unsettled business. And, of course, in the search of new supplies of rum. On his travels, Pirate Eddy gathers together many friends, some of which also join him in the summer at Banovci. Here, pirate Eddy chooses new devotees, which are then christened in the pirate way. All brave young men (well, even brave young maids can join in) who decide to join Eddy's side receive a real pirate certificate, shirt, and bandana. And naturally, a pile of adventures. Čarovnice in policaji Witches and Police Gusar Edi ob koncu poletja zopet odpluje v svet. It's exiting, what can you say. Pomlajevanje vseh vrst Rejuvenation of all kinds Razumljivo je, da se otrokom pri vragolijah v Termah pogosto z veliko vnemo pridružijo tudi starši. It is understandable that with all the mischief at the spa, the children's parents often join in with great enthusiasm. However, on occasion, while the children play, many parents find it agreeable to steal a moment for themselves, treating themselves to a thematically coloured form of personal pampering. Others seem to get the most out of it when they awake their inner child and let him loose. So, everyone can either go full out, or completely relax, whatever ensures that they feel younger and more full of energy. To each his own. V jeziku afriškega ljudstva Xhosa beseda KHANYA pomeni »PUSTI SVETLOBI, DA SVETI«. Polna luna je nosilka čudovite svetlobe – utelešenja moči in energije. Marula olje in ekstrakt čajevca poskrbita, da je koža dovolj nahranjena, navlažena in mehka. Masaža v valovitih črtah in krogih simbolizira obnovo in popolnost. Obrazna maska se nanaša v obliki starodavnega afriškega simbola energije in odpora. Vulkanski kamni, kristali in ropot afriških ropotuljic krepijo energije in vez z naravo, razvajajo čute in izkazujejo priznanje starodavnim ritualom. African Veneration of the Moon in Prlekija The ancient ritual of African tribes and traditional plants from the heart of Africa used for selected face and body massages with Babor cosmetics further enrich the spa experience at Banovci. The massages are based on rituals connected with the ancient veneration of the moon's attraction. In the language of the Xhosa African people the word KHANYA means »LET THERE BE LIGHT«. The full moon contains a magnificent light – the embodiment of strength and energy. Marula oil and a tea plant extract both ensure that the skin is suitably nourished, moisturised, and soft. A massage in wavy lines and circles symbolises regeneration and perfection. The facial massage is done in the form of an ancient African symbol of energy and resistance. Volcanic rock, crystals, and the sound of African rattles strengthen the energy and connection with nature, spoil the senses and demonstrate an acknowledgement of ancient rituals. Še posebej okusni so posuti z mešanico mletih orehov, cimeta in sladkorja. Revija Salon Slovenija Magazine Kobarid Štruklji Štruklji are a culinary specialty in restaurants and eateries in Kobarid and its environs. Once a fortifying peasant food (taken during harvest or work in the forest), it is now a star among deserts. Kobarid restaurants and the Local Tourist Organization (LTO) have decided that Kobarid štruklji deserve their own trademark. The initiative was started by the owners of five restaurants that comprise the Kobarid culinary circle and promote the specialties of the region including, of course, the extraordinary Kobarid štruklji. “We want štruklji to become as recognized as Bled cream pastries, donuts from Trojane, and Prekmurje’s gibanica,” say the Kobarid restaurateurs who make the dish from their grandmothers’ recipes, each adding their own personal touch, which is the reason for the small differences among them. The dough for štruklji is made with flour, salt, and warm water. The dough is rolled out and shaped into a circle and then a mixture made from walnuts, sugar, raisins, butter, breadcrumbs, milk, rum, and cocoa is poured over it. The dough is folded and sealed with the fingers, cooked in boiling water, and covered with melted butter. It is especially tasty when sprinkled with a mixture of ground walnuts, cinnamon, and sugar. The introduction of a trademark means not only the protection of the recipe and its provenance, but also an emphasis on identity and tradition, the creation of a recognizable graphic image, the augmentation of marketing activities, and, of course, the enrichment of the annual Štruklji Festival that takes place each June. 71 POROKE IN SLAVJA, KI JIH NE POZABITE Weddings and celebrations that remain unforgettable Sava Turizem – TMC, podjetje za upravljanje dejavnosti Turizem, d.o.o., Škofjeloška c. 6, 4000 Kranj, info.shr@sava.si Revija Salon Slovenija Magazine 72 dogodki | events 0 30. 09. 201 Dan srca v Kraljestvu treh src Radenci V Zdravilišču Radenci ob svetovnem dnevu srca, 30. septembra, pripravljajo tradicionalno celodnevno prireditev Dan srca. A Françoise je predvsem slikarka in njena dela so močno vpeta v razvojni tok moderne umetnosti 20. stoletja. One of the most common associations that comes with the name Françoise Gilot must surely be her ten-year relationship with artistic giant Pablo Picasso. Françoise was mainly a painter though, and her works are strongly tied to the development of modern art in the 20th century. Initially, F. Gilot studied to be a lawyer, but her love of art was stronger than the opportunity of having a well-respected profession. 1943 was a great turning point for her when, at her first exhibit of note, she met Picasso. Even though she did not paint for the following 10 years, the relationship opened up many new horizons for her. Together they had two children – Claude and Paloma – who are also pictured in many of her works. A fascinating representation of the fairytale on ice, performed by the St. Petersburg National Ballet. Originally, it was intended to be a one time only event honouring the 300th anniversary of the city of St. Petersburg, but later it developed into an show, which is now adored by more and more spectators around the world. Vrhunski plesalci, večinoma vsi dobitniki mednarodnih priznanj v drsanju, vešči združevanja elementov umetnostnega drsanja in veščin klasičnega ruskega baleta, nam bodo ob vrhunski baletni glasbi Sergeija Prokoffiefa pričarali neskončen svet domišljije in ledene poezije. The story of the transformation of a poor orphan into a princess is ideal for adaptation to the sparkling world of ice. Cinderella, the good witch, and the entire royal entourage all skate effortlessly on the ice in the scene at the ball, as if in spite of their gravity, all while the stepmother and her daughters attempt to gain attention with their combative turns and jumps. To the sounds of Sergei Prokofiev’s unmistakeable ballet music, these world class dancers, the great majority of them recipients of international recognitions for skating, and also skilled in a combination of elements from figure skating and the art of classic Russian ballet, conjure up an eternal world of imagination and poetry of ice. Njihovi nastopi so vrhunske predstave, v katerih nastopajo plesalci, akrobati, glasbeniki in igralci. FAMILY (SEMIANYKI) - a wordless performance understood by the whole world At the end of each year, Ljubljana’s Cankarjev dom offers a special performance from the world’s stage – whether dance, music, or theatre. In 2010, the legendary Russian pantomime theatre Teatr Licedei from Saint Petersburg, which has been entertaining audiences around the world for decades, will close the year. Their performances, featuring dancers, acrobats, musicians, and actors, are world-renowned. The current production entitled SeMiAnYki or Family provides a portrait of a “totally crazy family” in which there is an ongoing battle for domination between the Father, always drunk and threatening to leave, the pregnant Mother, always threatening to have another baby, and a troop of completely wild children that threaten both of them. Total chaos, of course, is followed by a happy ending. www.cd-cc.si . 2010 27. - 30. 12 Revija Salon Slovenija Magazine 80 dogodki | events SMUČARSKE TEKME ZA SVETOVNI POKAL V SEZONI 2010–2011 SKI COMPETITIONS FOR THE WORLD CUP IN THE 2010-2011 SEASON Svetovni pokal v biatlonu / Biathlon World Cup Svetovni pokal v telemark smučanju Telemark Skiing World Cup POKLJUKA With the recent renovation of the sports centre and racing course for cross country skiing and the biathlon, Pokljuka is ranked among the most modern racing locations. According to the folk narrative, the good King Matjaž, protector of all oppressed people, still sleeps in a hollow under Mount Peca and will awake when the time comes for his army to banish all injustice from the earth. Since 1992, there has been an annual festival called the Castles of King Matjaž that represents the symbolic awakening of the king. A number of ancillary celebrations are held, one of which is the team competition for the creation of snow sculptures. During the festivities, King Matjaž selects his favourite castle and also chooses his beloved Alenčica from among the visitors. The public judges the three best sculptures, which then receive awards. Among the snowy creations, we see classical castles but also some more unusual artworks. The works remain on view until nature “sweeps” them from the scene. Among the most interesting and most visited in Slovenia are: the great nativity scene in the Franciscan Church in Ljubljana, the live nativity scene in Postojna cave, the ice nativity in Mlačca near Mojstrana, and those featured in the churches of Piran. POTOP BOŽIČNEGA ZVONA NA BLEDU THE SUNKEN CHRISTMAS BELL AT BLED 25. 12. 2010 Tradicionalna božična prireditev ob Blejskem jezeru oživlja legendo o potopljenem zvonu, ki nosi v sebi močno simboliko tolažbe za vse trpeče. Ob romantičnem prednovoletnem vzdušju Bleda potapljači iz vse Slovenije v globine jezera spustijo osvetljen zvon. A traditional Christmas event at Bled Lake revives the legend of the sunken bell, which carries with it the powerful symbolism of comfort for all those who suffer. In the romantic atmosphere leading up to New Year’s Eve in Bled, divers from all across Slovenia lower a lit bell into the depths of the lake. www.bled.si Revija Salon Slovenija Magazine Krivulje_Oglas_Revija_Salon_popravek.indd 1 14.6.2010 18:31:38 PIXXELPOINT 3.–10. 12. 2010 Nova Gorica, Slovenija; Gorica, Italija Trojna konjunkcija, Magija, miti in mutacije je naslov letošnjega festivala, ki bo prikazal, kako umetniki novih medijev razmišljajo o letu 2010, kako gledajo na naš planet in življenje ...
