The following are guidelines for training hours for athletes looking to compete in the Club Levels stream: Level Hours Per Week Levels 1 - 3 1.5 hrs – 4 hrs Levels 4 - 10 4 hrs – 9 hrs Gymnastics WA – 2014 – WAG Club Levels Manual Page 7 6. DETERMINATION OF SCORES 6.1 D-Score This is also referred to as the Difficulty Score. This is determined by the content of the routine. 6.1.1 Club Levels 1 – 4 (as per NDP 1-3) Club Levels 1 to 4 have compulsory routines. If a gymnast completes all of the elements/skills in the routine the D-Score will be 5.00. In the case that skills are missing or attempted but not completed the following deductions will be taken from the D-Score. Skill omitted – the value of the skill for Bar, Beam & Floor Skill attempted but not meeting the technical requirement – ½ the value of the skill (0.5 or 0.30) is deducted Broken series – 0.3 deduction 6.1.2 Club Levels 5 & 6 (as per NL 4-6) Club Levels 5 & 6 have compulsory routines. If a gymnast completes all of the elements/skills in the routine the D-Score will be 5.00. In the case that skills are missing or attempted but not completed the following deductions will be taken from the D-Score. Skill omitted – 1.0 (omission) and the value of the skill for Bar, Beam & Floor o The 1.0 omission is only applied if the entire requirement is missing. Only the 0.5 value is deducted if part of the requirement is met (i.e. missing one cartwheel from Level 5 floor routine). Any applicable break in series is also applied. Skill attempted but not meeting the technical requirement – ½ the value of the skill (0.5) deducted Broken series – 0.3 deduction 6.1.3 Club Level 7 (as per NL 4-6) Club Levels 7 is a compulsory routine with limited bonus skills. If a gymnast completes all of the elements/skills in the base routine the D-Score will be 5.00. Gymnasts can achieve a maximum of 0.6 bonus (making a D score of 5.60) on each of the following apparatus - Bars, Beam and Floor. In the case that skills are missing or attempted but not completed the following deductions will be taken from the D-Score. Skill omitted – 1.0 (omission) and the value of the skill for Bar, Beam & Floor Skill attempted but not meeting the technical requirement – ½ the value of the skill (0.5) deducted Broken series – 0.3 deduction Gymnastics WA – 2014 – WAG Club Levels Manual Page 8 6.1.4 Club Levels 8 and 10 Club Levels 8 and 10 are optional. A routine is composed of Difficulty Value (number of skills from the code of points), Compositional requirements (types of skills, series etc) and Connection value for each apparatus. The combination of the Difficulty Value (DV), Compositional Requirements (CR) and Connection Value (CV) will form the D-score. Each CR is worth 0.50 Level 8 has a DV cap of 1.4 Level 10 has no DV cap There is no cap on CV at all 6.2 E-Score This is the gymnasts’ execution score. This is determined by calculating the total deductions, composition and artistry faults in the routine and taking these from 10.00. The final E-score is determined by averaging the judges’ E-scores. With 2 or 3 judges the average is simply calculated. In the instance where there are 4-6 judges the highest and lowest E-scores are eliminated and the other scores averaged. 6.3 Final Score The gymnasts’ final score is determined by adding the D-score and the E-score (minus any neutral deductions). Gymnastics WA – 2014 – WAG Club Levels Manual Page 9 7. Height is desirable, length of the jump is not. The run approach is not judged. 12.2 Jumps All jumps should show three phases 1. Stretched position with arms above head and legs together in ascent phase 2. Strong dynamic change to nominated body position (tuck, pike, straddle etc) at peak of jump 3. Stretched body position with arms swinging down legs together in descent phase. 12.3 Specific Jumps Tuck - knees to chest body upright, optional arms Pike - look for closure, legs at horizontal together and straight legs, optional arms Star - Min 135° Open hips Wolf - Legs at horizontal, knees together, arms optional Split - Min 135° Right or Left Leg, optional arms Jumps with turns - turn can be in either direction and can occur before or after the shape but ideally not during. QUESTIONS & ANSWERS Here are some of the comments, suggestions and clarifications that resulted from previous events: General Levels 5-7 is a combination of compulsory/optional aspects and can be performed in any order In Level 7 skills can only be replaced with a bonus skill on the same line Levels 8-10 are purely optional routines In Levels 1-4, if a skill is omitted, the gymnast loses just the value of the skill (either 1.0 or 0.5) In Levels 5-7, if an entire core skill is omitted, the gymnast loses 1.0 for omission PLUS the value of the skill In Levels 5-7, Skills are to be counted as per Updated Judging info for L4-6 document In Levels 8 & 10, Skills are to be counted as per FIG principals Vault What is the deduction for an overarm action? Currently there is no specific deduction Use of Mini Tramp will incur a 2.0 mark deduction taken from the D-Score. It can only be used for Handspring type Vaults. Bars Gymnasts are permitted to straddle at the back of a long swing Gymnasts are permitted to perform glides with legs together or straddled If a gymnast is too tall to perform glides on the low bar – they can be performed on the high bar (instead of requesting the bars to be raised) Club Level 5 Bars – if a gymnast chooses to perform a climb on the bar as the Bar Change, there will be NO leg separation deduction if she puts her feet between her hands then stands up. If the gymnast puts her feet on the outside of her hands to stand up, this will incur a 0.30 leg separation deduction. In both cases, deductions may also be taken for bent arms, loose legs and feet, and lack of control. Beam Gymnast attempts a full pivot, falls off ½ way through, then gets back up and does not repeat the element. (0.5 for not meeting the technical requirements plus 1.0 for the fall). Floor Pivots are NOT to be included within a passage of dance. Passage of dance must be travelling, therefore jumps or hops CANNOT be included in the passage of dance. Round offs and flips can be repeated and be awarded special requirements (in Levels 8-10).
