DEPARTMENT OF THE AIR FORCE
HEADQUARTERS UNITED STATES AIR FORCE ACADEMY
USAF ACADEMY COLORADO
Dear NCAA Zone E Coaches and Participants:
30 January 2014
Welcome once again to the United States Air Force Academy, host of this year’s Zone E
diving competition. This is the fifth time in past twenty years the zone meet has been held at
our facilities. We hope you find the venue satisfactory with the recent renovation and
improved lighting.
Coach Curnow and Captain Berg have done their best to work the schedule to benefit the
athletes and make it workable for the coaches. Our goal is to give each diver the opportunity
to do his/her very best in hopes of gaining one of the few spots available to compete at the
NCAA swimming and diving championships.
We hope you enjoy your visit to Colorado Springs where there is plenty of sunshine, crisp
cool air, and mountain scenery that cannot be beat. Have a safe and successful completion.
Best Regards,
Dr. Hans Mueh

ENTRY INFORMATION
Diving Entries
•
•
•
•
•
Qualification for a diving event must be achieved in bona fide competition. The definition and
requirements for meeting bona fide competition is detailed in Rule 9 for the 2013-14 and 2014-15
NCAA Swimming and Diving Rules Book.
In order to qualify for the diving events at the championships, a diver must participate in his or her
respective zone-qualifying meet. In order to qualify to compete in a zone-qualifying meet, the diver
must have achieved the qualifying standards for minimum point totals in bona fide competition in at
least one event. The competition point totals must be submitted on an officials NCAA diving online
form.
In order to verify the divers score entered on the NCAA online entry form, coaches should bring a
certified dive score sheet(s) with them to the meet. A diver’s score sheet must be certified by a
referee and a coach along with the diver’s signature. A qualifying score achieved and entered on
DiveMeets.com may serve as documentation for a valid qualifying score as an alternative to the
signed diving score sheet.
Coaches must submit the NCAA online zone diving entry form by midnight Eastern Time,
Thursday, March 6. Directions for submitting the online entry form are available on NCAA.org.
DiveMeets will be used at each of the zone diving meets and divers must register online for their
respective zone meet. Deadlines to register divers on DiveMeets will be listed online for each
respective zone (typically 48 hours prior to the first date of competition).
Procedures
• All springboard diving events will consist of a preliminary round of six optional dives using all five
groups. The top 18 finishers from the preliminary round will advance to the final round and will
perform a second list of six optional dives using all five groups. All dives will be performed in any
order without limit on degree of difficulty.
• For platform prelims, each diver will do six optional dives (men), including one from each of six
groups, or five optional dives (women), including one from each of five groups, from any
competitive platform level (i.e. 5, 7.5 or 10 meters), in any order, without limit on degree of
difficulty. For platform finals, if divers competed in trials optional dives only, the finals shall consist
of six optional dives (men), including one from each of five groups, or five optional dives (women),
including one from each of five groups, from any competitive platform, in any order, without limit
on degree of difficulty.
• Divers in the finals are allowed to practice during the fifteen minute break. The diving order for
finals will remain the same, with the non-qualifying divers being removed from the starting order.
8
SCORING
In all events, preliminary scores will carry forward and be added to the scores in the finals to
determine final placement.
If two or more divers have the same score and are vying for the final selection spot, a dive-off will be held
on the same board, with each diver using his or her same respective lists, in order to select the final
qualifier. A neutral panel will be used.
RESULTS
Qualifying for the NCAA Championships. Divers will qualify for the NCAA championships based on
performances at their respective zone meet. Each zone will receive a minimum of four spots for men and
women. The guaranteed spots will fill 20 of the 35 diving spots for men and 20 of 41 spots for women.
To complete the diving field (15 spots for men and 21 spots for women), the results from the previous
year’s national championships will be used. A place system will be used to determine the allocations
going to each zone for next year’s meet.
The allocations for the 2014 women’s championships are:
Zone A – 6
Zone B – 9
Zone C – 9
Zone D – 9
Zone E – 8
The allocations for the 2014 men’s championships are:
Zone A – 5
Zone B – 7
Zone C – 8
Zone D – 7
Zone E – 8
The spots from each zone that advance will be determined by the following priority placing table:
