It is IMPORTANT that you take time to read this document before you travel to ensure you fully understand the
format of the event and the terms and conditions under which you participate. There is always an element of risk
when participating in Active Sport. This document provides the necessary information to minimise those risks and
ensure you get the most out of your time with us.
REGISTRATION PACK:
You should receive your Registration Pack by 29th August 2014 at the latest.
It will be sent to the address you supplied when entering for the event.
If you do not received your pack or there is something missing please contact us immediately.

From Plymouth:

Continue along the M5 to junction 31 where the road becomes the A38 at Kennford.
Keep in the LEFT LANE signed A380 Torquay to ascend Telegraph Hill.
At the top of the hill take the LEFT turn signed "Great Haldon".
At the 'T' Junction turn RIGHT to cross the A380.
At the next 'T' junction turn RIGHT and follow the road through Haldon Forest.
Straight on at the mini roundabout then First LEFT into Exeter Racecourse.
 Continue along the A38 past Chudleigh and ascend Haldon Hill.
 At the top, take the LEFT just past the Winning Post Services (Little Chef) Signed 'Exeter Racecourse
and Dunchideock".
 At the 'T' junction turn RIGHT and follow the road under the A38.
 Take the next RIGHT into Exeter Racecourse.
WARNING: If you are using this approach after 07:00 hrs you will encounter fellow cyclists who have just
started. Please take great care [Its only for 300 meters!].
From Torbay:





Continue along the A380 until you reach the top of Telegraph Hill.
Take the LEFT turn prior to the Texaco Garage signed 'Exeter Racecourse & Haldon'
Follow the road through Haldon Forest.
Go straight on at the mini roundabout.
Take the first LEFT into Exeter Racecourse.
PARKING:
There is ample FREE parking at Exeter Racecourse.
Upon arrival you will be directed to a designated parking area by the marshals.
BREAKFAST:
The Jockey Club Catering Service will provide breakfast in the Denman Room from 06:00 hrs to 09:00 hrs




TERMS & CONDITIONS:
All participants MUST agree to our Terms & Conditions. This was a condition of entry when you registered for the
event. The full terms & conditions can be viewed on our website www.moor2sea.com. Key points are listed below. If
you do not accept them all, please do not participate in this event.

Key Points:
 You participate in this event at your own risk
 You acknowledge that the event is NOT A RACE and there is no authority in place for you to race on
the public highway.
 You MUST comply with Traffic Laws, Local Bylaws, and the Highway Code at all times.
 You are the registered entrant - participating under your own personal details
 You will be polite and courteous to the public & other participants so as not to bring the event into
disrepute.
 You MUST wear an approved cycle helmet at all times whilst on the course.
 Rider Number MUST be clearly displayed to the front of your bike at all times
 The Disposable Timing Chip must be fixed to the OUTSIDE-LEFT of your helmet.
 You must comply with the instructions of the event officials
 Do NOT drop litter. Put it in your pockets
 Pace yourself so that you are able to complete your chosen distance.
 You must be a competent cyclist, confident in your ability to complete the course.
 You must ensure your bike is in good mechanical order. If in doubt take it to an reputable bike shop to
be checked prior to attending the event.
 When cycling in groups, never cycle more than two abreast and, on narrow lanes, in single file.
 The route will be signed & marshalled at key points but the onus of staying on-course rests with each
individual rider.
 Do not use a mobile whilst cycling. Stop in a safe location to make or receive calls
 Do not cycle whist wearing earphones
 In the unlikely event of cancellation, due to unforeseen circumstances, entry fees are NOT refundable.
 Participants under 18 years MUST provide a parental consent form (downloadable from the website)
 Participants under 15 MUST be accompanied by a participating adult
STARTING PROCEDURE:
The first wave of participants will start at 07:00 hrs and all participants must start by 09:00 hrs.
Extreme Route participants are permitted to start from 07:00 hrs.
Challenge Route participants are permitted to start from 08:00 hrs.
Inspire Route participants are permitted to start from 08:45 hrs.
Please be aware of your personal ability. All participants must complete their chosen route by 18:00 hrs.
Once you are prepared and ready to start, Follow the signs to the Start Gates. You will receive a short 'Rider Safety
Briefing' by an event official before you set off.
Riders will be released in groups of approximately 50, at 5 minute intervals, to minimise disruption on the roads.
ELECTRONIC CHIP TIMING:
When you start you will cycle through the start gantry. The chip on your helmet will activate your start time. This will
continue recording your individual time until you cross the finish line at the end of your chosen route.
There are additional Timing Control Points (Split Times) on the Challenge & Extreme routes. They record your time
through that point. They do not affect your overall time.
Riders that do not register with the intermediate timing points will default to the shorter route. If you fail to register
with the Finish Time Point you will be deemed as having failed to complete the course and will be recorded on the
results sheet as Did Not Finish.
The Extreme & Challenge routes include a timed 'King of the Mountains' stage at Haytor. This stage is kindly
sponsored by Primal Europe. Whilst an individual time will be provided for this stage, that time will also be included
in your overall completion time for the event. All participants who complete this stage in under 26 minutes will receive
our prestigious KoM Pin Badge.
Gold, Silver & Bronze medals are awarded to all who complete their chosen route within the designated time limits
for their age and gender category.
Results sheets will be made available online within 48 hours of the event.

EMERGENCIES:
If you should witness any incident where a fellow participant or member of the public appear to
need assistance, we would urge you to stop and offer to help.
If it is clear a casualty requires hospital treatment please call 999 first.
Call our Emergency Number which you will find on the rear of your Bike Number.
We have Paramedics out on the course. We will direct them to you as quickly as possible.
Location: The Emergency Services and our Support Teams will need to know the location where
assistance is required.
You or another participant are likely to have a bike computer recording the distance travelled
on the course. If you provide us this information we will be able to establish your precise
location.
If you have a GPS or Smart Phone, these can also help identify your location.
RIDE SAFETY:
The Moor 2 Sea Sportive is a tough and challenging event that takes place on public highways. Active Sports of this
nature will always have an element of risk, however, if you follow the advice we provide, those risks will be
minimised.
 You must wear an approved cycle helmet on the course at all times.
 This is NOT a closed road event. Respect other road users. Always cycle at a speed where you are
able to stop safely when required.
 Know the limits of your own bike handling ability, especially on steep descents. Do not be drawn into
danger by following others.
 Always heed the advice of course marshals (stop if they signal you to do so)
 Do not ride more than two abreast and single-out on narrow roads
 ALAWYS comply with Traffic Law & the Highway Code
 Take note of the Highways Agency Signs as well as Events Signs. They are there to warn road users
(YOU) of potential hazards.
 Pay attention to Event Warning Signs. They are for your SAFETY.
 Take care on Cattle Grids - especially when they are wet. Don't brake on them and keep your bike
straight and upright as you ride across them.
 Be prepared to stop at Pedestrian Crossings.
 Take particular care when passing through built up areas.
 DO NOT contravene RED Traffic Lights.
 It remains your responsibility to ensure it is safe to continue when negotiating any junction (whether
marshalled or not). Give Way when necessary and take extra care when merging onto main roads.
Some sections of road surface are less than perfect. Watch for pot-holes, loose gravel, and any other debris that may have
washed or blown onto the carriageway.
MECHANICAL SUPPORT:
Mechanical assistance is available for emergencies only. You should aim to be self sufficient. Please ensure you
carry your own spare inner tubes and a basic repair kit.
Mechanical support is being provided by The Bike Shed (Barnstaple, Exeter, Crediton) and Big Peaks (Ashburton)
If you require Mechanical Support - Please use the contact number on the rear of your Bike Number.
FEED ZONES:
Feed Zone 1:
Located at Rydon School, Kingsteignton - All routes (22 miles).
Feed Zone 2:
Located at Bellever Youth Hostel - Extreme & Challenge routes (42 miles)
Feed Zone 3:
Located at St Boniface House, Ashburton - Extreme route only (78 miles)
Feed Zone 4:
Located at Bellever Youth Hostel - Extreme route only (89 miles)

All Feed Zones will have a selection of sweet and savoury foods to choose from.
Hi Five Energy Drinks, Gels and Bars will also be available.
We recommend that you carry two 750ml Drinks Bottles to ensure you have sufficient fluids to
last you between the Feed Zones.
Should you run out of drink, there are a number of places along the route where you should be
able to obtain additional water.
EXTREME ROUTE - CLOSURE:
The Extreme Route option will be closed at the Postbridge Split Point (43 miles) from 12:00 hrs and all riders will be
diverted to the 'Challenge Route'. This is to ensure that all participants can finish by 18:00 hrs.
TOILET FACILITIES:
Please refrain from answering calls of nature close to the public highway or anywhere it could offend others.
There are ample toilet facilities available at Exeter Racecourse, in and around the Conference Centre. They will be
clearly marked.
There will be toilets available at all the Feed Zones.
Public Toilets are also available on or close to the route at the following locations: Haldon, Starcross, Dawlish,
Dawlish Warren, Teignmouth, Kingsteignton, Bovey Tracey, Haytor, Postbridge, Princetown, Yelverton, Ivybridge,
South Brent, Buckfastleigh, New Bridge, and Moretonhampstead.
FINISHING PROCEDURE:
You must cross the finish line to record your official time.
On completion of your ride, make your way to the Conference Centre where you will be issued with your time chit.
You will then be able to use this to collect your medal and event gifts.
Medals & Awards:
There are Gold, Silver and Bronze Medals which are awarded to all who complete their chosen route within the
designated time limit for their age and gender category. Medal times are shown in the table below.
For those taking part in the Extreme & Challenge routes, there is an additional 'King of the Mountains' Hill Climb
Stage at Haytor. This stage is kindly sponsored by Primal Europe. The start point is just after the Jenga Roundabout,
Bovey Tracey, and the finish is at the Haytor Top Car Park. The distance of the climb is 3.7 miles and the elevation is
approx 1,200 ft. Everyone who completes this stage within 26 minutes will also receive the prestigious KoM Award.
The quickest ascents of the day for each of the age and gender categories will be awarded a top-of-the-range,
custom made, Primal Europe Helix KoM Cycle Jersey.
Event Gifts:
All finishers will receive a Moor 2 Sea T-Shirt, Hi Five Water Bottle, and Hi-Five Recovery Drink.
Unable to Finish:
If you are unable to complete the ride for any reason, please advise a course marshal or the finish stewards, so that
we know you are safely off the course.
A shuttle recovery service will operate from Postbridge to take retiring riders and their bikes back to the Event HQ.
This service is kindly provided by 'Devon By Bike'.
REFRESHMENTS:
Jockey Club Catering Services will provide refreshments for you in the Denman Room at the Conference Centre on
the completion of your ride.
There will be a choice of:
 Pasta Meals (£5.00)
 Jacket Potatoes (Choice of Fillings) (£6.50)
 Burgers (£3.50)
There will also be a selection of snacks and drinks available.

SPORTS MASSAGE :
The Massage Clinic (Exmouth) will be on hand in the Best Mate Room offering a Sports & Remedial Massage
service. The perfect way to relax and sooth away any aches and pains from your ride before driving home.
EXHIBITORS:
There will be a small selection of specialist cycling related exhibitors at Exeter Racecourse Conference Centre.
ACCOMMODATION:
There are a number of accommodation options available close to the Event HQ.
Campsite: There is an official 'Caravan Club' site at the very centre of the Racecourse. There are
pitches for Caravans, Motor Homes and Tents.

CLOTHING & EQUIPMENT:
 Bikes must be in a roadworthy condition. Please have yours properly serviced before attending.
 Cycle Helmets MUST be worn.
 Ensure you wear the correct clothing for the conditions. It can get cold on the moors, especially if it
rains, so take something suitable with you to slip on over your normal cycling top. Equally, if it is a
hot sunny day, you may need to apply sunscreen both before and during the ride.
 It is advisable to carry a rear light, as weather conditions can change suddenly and without warning.
 Ensure you carry enough food and drink for your ride, as you may need to refuel in-between the
Feed Zones.
 We recommend you have 2 x 750ml water bottles
 Carry spare inner-tubes (2), a pump, tyre levers and a small repair kit
 It is advisable to carry a mobile phone if you have one.

DON'T DROP IT - PUT IT IN YOUR POCKET
Just Events Ltd promotes Cycling and other Active Sports in the South West Region. We continually strive to
maintain a harmonious relationship between the local community and sporting participants. Please do your bit to
help. Do not drop your litter around the course. put it in your cycle jersey pocket. You can transfer it to a bin at the
Feed Zones, or Event HQ where we have provided bins for you. Gel wrappers may make your pocket sticky but they
will not ruin your jersey - and you will have to wash it after the ride anyway!

MEDAL TIMES
The Moor2Sea Sportive has Gold, Silver and Bronze medal times. The tables below show the MAXIMUM time
allowed for each category in order to qualify for the corresponding medal. For example: A Male aged 60 years who
takes 6 hrs 16 minutes and 1 second to complete the 'Challenge' route would NOT qualify for a medal. The Age
groups are Juniors (Under 18 years), Senior (18 to 39), Veteran 40 (40 to 49), Veteran 50 (50 to 59), Veteran 60
Plus (Aged 60 years and over).
