CHAPTER – II MORE ABOUT THE WRITTEN TEST
1. SYLLABUS
The question papers of the Common Entrance Test will be mostly based on the First and Second PUC syllabi
prescribed by the Department of Pre-University Education of Karnataka State.
2. DURATION, QUESTION PAPER AND OMR ANSWER SHEETS
The Common Entrance Test will be held in TWO days in FOUR different sessions for four subjects. On the first
day, test will be conducted for Biology and Mathematics subjects in two sessions and on the next day test will be
conducted for Physics and Chemistry subjects in two sessions as per the date and time given at page – 14. Each
paper will be conducted for 60 marks each with 80 minutes duration.
Each question paper will be of (Objective) Multiple Choice type. The question paper in each subject will be in 16
different versions and each question will have four different options. Each question will carry ONE mark. The
candidate is expected to attempt all the questions, in order to obtain maximum marks. In other words, there is no
choice among questions. THERE WILL BE NO NEGATIVE EVALUATION WITH REGARD TO WRONG
ANSWERS BUT MARKS WILL NOT BE AWARDED IN RESPECT OF MULTIPLE ANSWERS. The version code
of the question paper will be boldly printed on facing sheet of the question paper. The version codes used in each
paper will be from A - 1 to A - 4, B - 1 to B - 4, C - 1 to C - 4 and D - 1 to D - 4. The version code of the question papers
given to a student may be different OR may be the same for different sessions.
COMPULSORY: In all the four sessions, initial TEN minutes will be given for the candidates to write / shade the
particulars such as Name, CET Number, Version Code and Serial number of the question booklet on the OMR
answer sheets in the boxes provided. The candidates who do not write / shade the correct CET Number and
Version Code on the OMR answer sheets, such candidates OMR answer sheets will not be scanned and
will not be assigned any rank.
The candidates will have to mark correct options on the Optical Mark Reader (OMR) answer sheet, which will be
supplied at the beginning of each session of the test. Among the answers provided against a question, only
one answer will be correct. The candidate should mark the correct answer by completely shading only
one circle against a question number, using BLUE or BLACK ink ball point pen. A specimen of the OMR
answer sheets will be hosted on the KEA Website. More details about precautions to be taken while filling the
particulars on OMR answer sheets is given at next page. The OMR answer sheet comprises of two sheets. The
top sheet will be used for the purpose of marking correct answers and later scanning & evaluation and the bottom
sheet will be returned to the candidates after completion of each session of the test. The bottom sheet is coated
with a special kind of chemical which acts as Carbon. When the candidate fills the circles on the top
sheet, the pressure on the bottom sheet will automatically create a replica of the top sheet.
The candidates are required to COMPULSORILY AFFIX THEIR LEFT HAND THUMB IMPRESSION in the
space provided on the bottom portion of the OMR answer sheet (top sheet) with the ink-pad provided by the room
Invigilator, after completion of each session of the test. However, they need not affix their thumb impression on
the replica (bottom sheet) of the OMR answer sheet. Thereafter, the invigilators will detach the bottom sheet from
the top sheet at the perforations and hand over the bottom sheet replica to the candidates and candidates are
allowed to carry the same with them. The top sheet will be retained by the invigilator for returning the same to the
Deputy Chief Superintendent of the examination center and in turn to KEA.
NOTE : The OMR answer sheets in respect of all the candidates who have affixed their left hand thumb
impression will only be scanned and the results in respect of such candidates will be published. The
OMR answer sheets in respect of candidates who have not affixed their left hand thumb impression, for
any reason, will not be scanned. Also, the results in respect of such candidates will not be published.

3. OMR ANSWER SHEETS
Candidates can download the specimen of the OMR Answer Sheet & Practice with it by using blue or black ink
ballpoint pen, candidates can practice with the OMR answer sheet with regard to filling and shading of the
required items. Please study the specimen OMR answer sheet and familiarize yourself. Take four to five
photocopies of the specimen OMR sheet and practice on them at home. By doing so, you will be very
accurate in writing and shading the particulars such as Name, CET Number, Question booklet version
code, etc., in the required manner on the Original OMR answer sheets, during actual conduct of the test.
Optical Mark Reader sheets as Answer Sheets
The need for the replica has compelled us to design OMR sheet in such a way that all the information will be
hosted on the KEA website and the answers are marked only on one side. The top portion of the sheet is meant
for furnishing the particulars about the candidates such as the Name, CET Number, Version code and serial
number of the question booklet. The bottom portion is meant for marking the answers, affixing the signature of
the room Invigilator & candidates and also for affixing the Left Hand Thumb Impression of the candidate. The
space meant for the subject would have been pre-marked. The square blocks in each item should be filled by the
candidate in capital letters and numbers. The circles corresponding to the letters or numbers are meant to be
completely shaded using blue or black ink ballpoint pen only.
Why Ball Point Pen?
Remember, we are allowing the candidates to carry home a replica or facsimile of
the OMR answer sheet and the OMR answer paper comes in a set of two sheets.
When you shade the top sheet, the pressure will create a dark mark on the
bottom sheet on the corresponding circle. If a pen with a nib is used, the
pressure on the top sheet will not be sufficient to activate the chemical on
the bottom sheet. On the other hand, a ballpoint pen exerts sufficient
pressure to convert the bottom sheet chemical into a dark spot. That is
why we want you to use a blue / black ink ballpoint pen only.
Important precautions to be taken while writing / shading Top portion of OMR answer sheet The initial
TEN minutes will be given to a candidate, for writing / shading the particulars on the top portion of the OMR
answer sheet, wherein the candidates are required to write their Name within the boxes, write their CET Number
in the boxes and shade the respective circles, write the Question booklet version code in the boxes and shade
the respective circle in the required manner. The candidates are also required to write the Question booklet serial
number and the Register number of 2nd PUC / 12th standard within the boxes (in case if the candidate is
appearing for Annual examinations during 2012). Of the five items, entries pertaining to ‘Name’, ‘CET Number’
and ‘Question booklet Version code’ are very crucial ones. Therefore, candidates are advised to take extra
precaution while writing and shading these three items accurately on the top portion of the OMR answer
sheet.

After the initial TEN minutes 70 minutes will be given to a candidate for shading the answers on the bottom
portion of the OMR answer sheet. On the bottom portion, there will be 60 rows corresponding to 60 questions.
Against each question number, four circles will be provided corresponding to four options of the question paper.
The candidates are required to shade only one circle corresponding to the correct answer.
The scanner is so sensitive to black and blue ink shades that even a slight residual ink mark or an unintended ink
dot within a circle on the OMR answer sheet will be taken by it, as filled / shaded, at the time of scanning.
Consequently, the candidate may lose marks. Therefore, please do not make any stray pen marks on the OMR
answer sheets. As the scoring done by the scanner and the computer in tandem is final, a plea for erasing or
neglecting the ink mark on a circle cannot be entertained. Therefore, candidates are advised to take extra
precaution while shading the circles on the bottom portion.

Once you darken a circle, there is no way to erase or
to remove it. That way, your decision about a correct
answer will be final. The invigilator will not permit you
to use marker, white fluid or any other devise to hide
the shading already done and you will not be supplied
with one more set of OMR sheet. If you spoil a sheet
in your attempt to rub off the shading done on a circle,
you may ruin your opportunities. If two circles are
shaded in a row and even if one of the circles is
partially rubbed off, the scanner will take it as a
multiple attempt. Therefore, think twice before you
shade a circle with ink. Darken only one circle for
each question as shown against the CORRECT

The candidates should invariably preserve their ‘CET 2012’ OMR answer sheet replicas of all
the subjects for a minimum period of one year from the date of obtaining the admission order.
4. DETERMINATION OF MERIT AND PUBLICATION OF MERIT LISTS
(A) DETERMINATION OF MERIT:
The merit of the candidates who appear for the Common Entrance Test–2012 will be determined are
detailed below:
(1) In the case of Medical and Dental Courses, the merit will be determined only on the basis of marks
obtained by candidates in Physics, Chemistry and Biology subjects taken together in the Common
Entrance Test – 2012.
(2) In the case of Indian System of Medicine and Homoeopathy Courses, the merit will be
determined on the basis of marks obtained by candidates in Physics, Chemistry & Biology subjects
in Common Entrance Test – 2012 and the marks obtained by candidates in Physics, Chemistry and
Biology subjects in the Qualifying Examination, taken in equal proportions.
(3) In the case of Engineering and Technology courses, the merit will be determined on the basis of
marks obtained by candidates in Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics subjects in Common Entrance
Test–2012 and the marks obtained by candidates in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics subjects
in the Qualifying Examination, taken in equal proportions. Provided that where the merit of two or

more candidates is the same, the interse merit shall be determined with reference to the marks
obtained in the Common Entrance Test in Biology in the case of Medical / Dental / Indian Systems of
Medicine and Homoeopathy courses and in Mathematics in the case of Engineering / Technology
courses and where the marks obtained in such cases are equal then the interse merit shall be
determined on the basis of the marks obtained in Chemistry in the case of Medical / Dental / Indian
Systems of Medicine and Homoeopathy courses and in Physics in the case of Engineering /
Technology courses and where the marks obtained are equal again the interse merit shall be
determined on the basis of the marks obtained in the respective subjects in the Qualifying
examination as stipulated above and where marks obtained are equal again, the interse merit shall
be determined on the basis of the age of the candidate, wherein the elder candidate will be
considered before the younger.
(4) In the case of Architecture Course, the merit will be determined on the basis of marks obtained by
candidates in the qualifying examination in all subjects and the (valid NATA score) taken in equal
proportions.
Provided that where the merit of two or more candidates is same, the interse merit shall be
determined with reference to the marks obtained in NATA, where marks obtained in NATA are equal,
then the interse merit shall be determined on the basis of marks obtained in Mathematics in the
qualifying examination and where marks obtained in Mathematics are equal, the interse merit shall
be determined on the basis of the age of the candidate, wherein the elder candidate will be
considered before the younger.
NOTE: If everything as specified in the provisions to sub-clauses referred to above from (1), (2), (3) and (4) are
equal, then the interse merit will be determined by draw of lots.
The determination of interse merit as detailed above for selection of Government seats will be the basis for the
merit list of candidates claiming benefit of reservation under Admission Rules i. e., Item 8 of Chapter – I of the
brochure.
(B) PUBLICATION OF MERIT LISTS :
After the completion of the entrance test, the ANSWER KEY will be published on 10-05-2012 in the KEA
Website: http://kea.kar.nic.in The candidates / parents / lecturers can file their objections, if any, addressed to
the “Executive Director, Karnataka Examinations Authority, Bangalore” on or before 16-05-2012 either in
person or only through SPEED POST / email: keauthority-ka@nic.in , with regard to any of the published answer
Key, along with all supporting documents / justification. The objections received by the KEA will be placed before
an Expert Committee, whose decision will be final for determination of the right answer key. The answer key
approved by the Expert Committee will be applied during evaluation for determination of merit order.
As per the merit determined by the KEA, the Medical / Dental, ISM & H, Engineering and Architecture ranks will
be assigned to the eligible candidates. Separate result sheets showing the Medical / Dental, ISM & H,
Engineering and Architecture ranks will be published on 31-05-2012 in all the CET-2012 examination centres
and the same will also be made available on KEA Website http://kea.kar.nic.in Separate merit lists in respect of
the wards of Jammu & Kashmiri migrants for the respective courses will also be prepared and published on the
KEA Website. The correct answer key and the list of candidates whose results have been withheld and the
reasons for withholding the results will also be published along with the results. The candidates whose results
are with-held for want of 2nd PUC / 12th std. Marks and date of birth such candidates / parents need not
to be worried because, ranks will be assigned as and when they submit the required documents on the
specified dates during office hours.
Result sheets will not be displayed in the KEA premises.

Candidates who have any objections in respect of any of the entries or problems in the result sheets, such as
discrepancy / changes in the Q. E. marks, version code, NATA scores etc., except the marks secured in the
Common Entrance Test, can submit their objections within three days from the date of publication of the
CET - 2012 result and thereafter result will be published for such candidates. (See box item given below for
details about intermediary ranks / Spot ranks i.e., ranks ending with G55, G44, G33 etc.)
NOTE : 1. The candidates are requested to verify their qualifying examination marks printed on the result
sheets without fail, if there is any discrepancy with reference to qualifying examination marks
the same should be brought to the notice of this office immediately for fresh assignment of ranks,
if any.
2. Candidates whose results will be withheld for want of qualifying examination marks should submit
a photocopy of their Q. E. marks card either in person or through ‘Speed Post’ to the KEA and the
ranks in respect of such candidates will be published subsequently.
Request for re-totaling or revaluation of the OMR answer sheets will not be entertained, as the valuation
and the subsequent scoring will be error free.
What does ‘G 55’ mean?
After the declaration of the results, the candidates may not get ranks assigned mainly for the
following reasons :
1) For want of Q. E. marks, a candidate might have missed the rank. 2) A candidate might have
marked the version code wrongly. 3) Q. E. marks may get varied due to revaluation or otherwise,
when corrected, a fresh ranking becomes necessary.
The KEA computers are programmed to assign new ranks or fresh ranks to the candidates falling
within the above said categories without disturbing the rank numbers assigned to the candidates
whose results were declared earlier.
The computer program is such that it can assign ranks in between two integers without altering the
previous rank numbers. Undoubtedly, you were assigned a rank after the declaration of the results.
When a rank was assigned to you, rank 1234 and 1235 had been assigned to two other candidates.
When it came to assigning a rank to you, the computer found that in the normal course, your rank
would have been after the candidate with rank 1234 and before the candidate with rank 1235.
Therefore, the computer had to place you between 1234 and 1235.
As already said, the computer is programmed to generate large number of ranks between two
integers by dividing the space alphabetically from A to Z. Then each alphabet is subdivided from 1 to
99. Now, if a new rank is required to be assigned between two integer ranks, in the first instance, the
computer assigns a division number as ‘G 55’ before the previous rank. If one more rank needs to be
assigned between the rank 1234 and 1234 G 55, the computer assigns a rank as 1234 G 44. If one
more rank is to be assigned between 1234 G 55 and 1235, then it assigns a rank as 1234 G 66.

CHAPTER – III
1. DOCUMENTS TO BE PRODUCED FOR VERIFICATION
The original documents to be produced for verification have been detailed separately in respect of Government
seats in Item – 6 of Chapter – I below each of the Eligibility Clauses. Similarly, the original documents to be
produced in respect of Special category seats are also detailed in Item – 6(1) of Chapter – I against each of the
Special Categories.
(A) Special category seats : Candidates claiming the benefit under various Special categories should produce
the relevant original Special category certificates along with TWO sets of photocopies COMPULSORILY on the
dates notified below, to the KEA IN PERSON ONLY DURING OFFICE HOURS. They should also produce three
photocopies of their 'CET 2012' admission ticket. Candidates should not send their original special category
documents / certificates through Post OR any other private arrangement. An acknowledgment slip will
be issued for having received the special category certificates.

attested photocopies of all the documents will be retained by the KEA and all original documents will be returned
to the candidates. The documents to be produced for claiming Government seats are detailed clause wise,
below the respective CLAUSES in Item – 6 of Chapter – I of this brochure.
Explanation for some of the prominent documents is as follows :
SSLC Marks Card
SSLC or 10th standard or equivalent examination marks card.

Study Certificate
Study Certificate to show that the candidate has studied in Karnataka for a minimum
period of SEVEN years from 1st standard to 12th standard or qualifying examination
issued by Head of the institution. Further, School study certificates should be got
countersigned by the concerned Block Educational Officer (BEO) / Deputy Director of
Public Instructions (DDPI) COMPULSORILY in the proforma prescribed at
Appendix – V. PLEASE CONTACT CONCERNED SCHOOL FOR BEO / DDPI
OFFICE ADDRESS. (The counter signature for 1st and 2nd PU study certificate is not
required)

NOTE : CBSE, CISCE, J & K candidates should produce the study certificate obtained from the Principal of their
respective schools. Further, countersignature of BEO or DDPI is not required for them.

` 4.50 Lakhs per annum will be eligible for allotment of seats under “Supernumerary
Quota”.
The candidates who claim seat under “Supernumerary Quota” will have to obtain an

certificate from the respective school / high school issued by the head of the institution
which should be countersigned by the concerned Block Educational Officer (BEO) as
per format shown at page 74.
General merit candidates who claims seat in rural category should also submit an
income certificate issued from the concerned Tahasildar along with the rural study
certificate as per format shown at page 74.
NOTE : The candidates whose parents come under creamy layer are not eligible to claim the benefit of rural
reservation.
Kannada Medium
Certificate
Candidates claiming the benefit of Kannada Medium reservation should produce a
certificate for having studied 10 full academic years in Kannada medium from 1st
standard to 10th standard issued by the Head of the educational institution and such
certificate should be got countersigned by the respective BEO or DDPI in the proforma
prescribed at Appendix - V.
Caste /
Caste Income
Certificate
Candidates seeking reservation benefit should produce a Caste Certificate in Form
‘D’ in case of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes; in Form ‘E’ in case of
Category -1; a Caste Income Certificate in Form ‘F’ for Other Backward Classes such
as 2A, 2B, 3A and 3B, issued by the concerned Jurisdictional Tahasildar, in
accordance with the Government order No. Sa Ka E 225 BCA 2000 dated 30th March
2002 and No. Sa Ka E 104 BCA 2011 dated 06-02-2012 as amended from time to time.
Annexure-II to this rule is reproduced at Appendix-VIII for the information of the
candidates and parents. The candidates belonging to SC, ST and Category –1 of the
Other backward classes should also produce a separate Income Certificate as per the
prescribed format given at Page - 75. (This is for the purpose of processing eligibility of
candidates to claim Government of India scholarship).
IMPORTANT : The candidates claiming reserved category benefits should COMPULSORILY produce the Study
Certificate indicating the Standards, Academic years, Caste and Mother Tongue obtained from the head of the
institution where the candidate has passed 10th standard / SSLC examination, as per the Admission register of
institution, in the proforma prescribed at Appendix - V.
The school study certificates of the candidates should be got countersigned invariably by the BEO / DDPI along
with full Address, Seal & Telephone Number of the concerned office. HOWEVER, COUNTER SIGNATURE FOR
PUC / 11TH & 12TH STANDARD STUDY CERTIFICATE IS NOT REQUIRED.
NOTE: 1. Where the eligibility of the candidate is based on the study, employment, etc., of the parent, relevant
documents to establish the relationship of candidate with the parent has to be produced.

2. The contents of the documents submitted by the candidates should be either in Kannada or English
languages only. If the documents are in any other language, the same should be got translated to
Kannada or English language through the concerned authorities with signature and seal and should
be produced during allotment of seats. Otherwise the KEA reserves the right to reject the same.
2. ADMISSION FEE AND PERCENTAGE OF SEATS (GOVERNMENT SHARE)

Seat Matrix and fee structure will be announced by Government later for the year 2012-13.
The The Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes candidates need not to pay any fees.
The fee amount for different courses / categories should be paid in the form of a Demand Draft.
Demand Draft should be drawn in favour of “The Executive Director, Karnataka Examinations Authority”,
payable at the respective Helpline Centres.
Since, the Bank counter functioning at the Helpline Centers will not issue the demand drafts, the candidates
and parents are also advised not to bring the prescribed fee in the form of CASH / Cheque.
Candidates can bring multiple demand drafts in different denominations corresponding to the fee amount.
3. GOVERNMENT SEATS (SEAT MATRIX)
The KEA will receive the seat matrix from the Government before the commencement of allotment of seats in the
Admission Round. Hence, an accurate number of seats to be offered for allotment as Government seats, college
wise, category wise and course wise, cannot be made known at this stage. The seat matrix (Government seats)
in respect of Medical, Dental, Indian System of Medicine & Homoeopathy, Engineering, Technology and
Architecture courses, as notified by the Government will be published on the notice boards of the KEA and also
on the KEA website http://kea.kar.nic.in before the commencement of allotment of seats to the respective
disciplines. For the benefit of candidates, full postal address and telephone / fax numbers of Professional
colleges and the total number of Government share of seats offered by the KEA in these colleges for the
academic year 2011-12 are given in Appendix – VI. This is only for the information of the candidates and no
inference shall be drawn either for number of seats or to the college for the academic year 2012-13.
4. VERIFICATION OF DOCUMENTS AND ENTRY OF OPTIONS FOR
ALLOTMENT OF GOVERNMENT SEATS
From this year there is a change in the method of allotment of seats. In the first instance, after declaration of rank /
merit, verification of documents will take place followed by obtaining the options from the candidate which is
followed by allotment of seats. Verification of documents will be done for all the disciplines at once to which the
candidate is eligible. If the candidate is eligible for more than one discipline i.e, for Medical / Dental, Engineering,
ISM & H, then for all the disciplines documents will be verified at once. The verification of documents and
allotment of seats includes the following stages.
1. Registration of a Candidate.
2. Verification of Documents, holding of Interactive Session for
options entry and assignment of User ID and Password.
3. Entry of Options by Candidates
4. Allotment of seats.
5. Downloading of Allotted Details.
6. Remittance of fees and collection of admission orders.
7. Admission / Report to the college.

(1) REGISTRATION OF A CANDIDATE
Every candidate who is assigned rank in CET-2012 will have to report to the nearest Helpline Centres / or the
most convenient Helpline Centre as per the schedule notified by KEA for Registration of Candidate and
Verification of Documents. There are 12 notified Helpline Centres and the details are at page 43. The time
schedule along with the venue for Registration and for Verification of Documents will be notified by KEA soon
after the declaration of the results. The candidates will be allowed to participate in accordance with the notified
time schedule and as per the stipulated rank ranges only. The candidates are required to register their CET
number in the computer system. From there, the candidates are sent to the Verification Counter where the
entries of original documents are checked against the computer data that would have been furnished by them in
their application forms. After verification, the KEA will retain one set of the attested photocopies and the original
documents will be returned to the candidates. Before leaving the verification counter, an acknowledgment card
and a verification slip will be issued to the candidates. Thereafter, the candidates will be sent to the interactive
session, where in the candidates will be briefed about the procedure to be followed by the candidate in exercising
options, allotment of seats, payment of fees and reporting to the college. This will be like a training class to the
candidates to familiarize themselves on entry of options and procedure to be followed for such entry of options till
their admission to the colleges.
(2) VERIFICATION OF DOCUMENTS
Verification of documents will be done as per the schedule which will be notified in the newspapers and also on
the KEA website http://kea.kar.nic.in The candidate should confirm the rank ranges, date and time of verification
before coming to the Helpline Center. No individual intimation will be sent to the eligible rank holders regarding
the date and time of verification process. The original documents to be produced during verification have been
detailed separately in respect of Government seats in Item – 6 of Chapter – I below for each of the Eligibility
Clauses. Similarly, the original documents to be produced in respect of Special Category seats are also detailed
in Item – 6(1) of Chapter – I against each of the Special Categories. Candidates who seek admission to
Government seats should compulsorily produce the required documents in ORIGINAL with ONE set of attested
photocopies of all the original documents and two passport size photographs.
VERIFICATION OF DOCUMENTS FOR PHYSICALLY DISABLED, NCC, SPORTS
SPECIAL CATEGORIES.
(a) FOR PHYSICALLY DISABLED CANDIDATES (Only in Bangalore Centre)
The candidates claiming a seat under the persons with disability category should COMPULSORILY appear
before the Medical Board comprising of the Executive Director and three specialist Doctors. The Medical Board
shall examine the candidates on 27-06-2012 at 11.00 a.m. and certify the percentage of disability. The decision
of the Medical Board will be final. The candidates with less than 40% of disability and those who fail to appear
before the Committee on the notified date and time, will not be eligible to be considered for allotment of a seat
under the persons with disability category. The list of eligible physically disabled candidates prepared by the
Medical Board will be final for the purpose of allotment of seats.
(b) FOR NCC CANDIDATES (only in Bangalore Centre)
The candidates who have submitted their NCC certificates on 08-05-2012 as notified in Item – 1 of Chapter III of
this brochure will ONLY be allowed to appear before the Committee comprising of the Executive Director and the
Director of NCC or his authorized nominee, on 28-06-2012 at 11.00 a.m. for verification of NCC certificates. The
candidates who do not submit their NCC certificates on 08-05-2012 will not be allowed for verification of
certificates and such candidates will not be considered for allotment of seats under NCC. After verification of
NCC certificates, the Director of NCC or his authorized nominee will prepare a preferential list among the eligible
NCC candidates in the following order:

The candidates possessing ‘B’ certificate and adjudged overall All India Best Cadet with Gold / Silver / Bronze
medal in the Republic Day Camp held at New Delhi will be considered FIRST. Candidates possessing ‘B’
certificate and adjudged overall All India Best Cadet with Gold / Silver / Bronze medal in camps All India TSC
(Boys) / TSC (Girls) / NSC / VSC and cadets who have been finally selected as part of DG NCC team to
participate in All India Movalankar shooting championship at national level will be considered SECOND.
Candidates possessing ‘B’ certificate and who have participated in the Youth Exchange Programmes and
Foreign Naval Cruise organized by DG NCC will be considered THIRD. Candidates who have participated from
Karnataka in the R D Camp will be considered FOURTH. Candidates possessing ‘B’ certificate and who have
participated from Karnataka in the All India TSC (Boys) / TSC (Girls) / NSC / VSC and cadets participated in All
India Movalankar shooting championship as part of KAR and GOA Directorate team will be considered FIFTH.
Candidates possessing ‘B’ certificate and who have participated in Mountaineering, Sailing, Motor Cycle,
Cycling Expeditions organized by DG NCC / NCC Directorate of KAR and GOA will be considered SIXTH.
Candidates possessing ‘B’ certificate and who have participated in NIC, Trekking, Mountaineering, BLC, ALC,
RCTC, and Army Navy, Air Force and Hospital attachment camps will be considered SEVENTH. Candidates
who possess only ‘B’ certificate will be considered EIGHTH. For all the above said categories, possession of ‘B’
Certificate is compulsory. While considering the medal status for First and Second preferences, priority will be
Gold to Silver and Silver to Bronze.
The list of eligible NCC candidates prepared by the Director of NCC or his authorized nominee will be final for the
purpose of allotment of seats under NCC. Thereafter, the list of eligible candidates will be prepared on the basis
of CET ranking within the preferences mentioned above and the candidates will be considered for allotment of
seats accordingly.
NOTE: The candidates who have only ‘B’ certificate need not attend this NCC Special category verification of
documents on 28-06-2012. However, they will be considered for allotment of seats as per their CET Rankings in
the general round of allotment process for the unfilled NCC seats, if any.
(c) FOR SPORTS CANDIDATES (only in Bangalore Centre)
The candidates who have submitted their SPORTS certificates on 09-05-2012 as notified in Item – 1 of Chapter
III of this brochure will ONLY be allowed to appear before the Committee comprising of the Executive Director,
KEA and the Commissioner for Youth Services & Sports or his authorized nominee, on 29-06-2012 at 11.00 a.m.
for verification of SPORTS certificates. The candidates who do not submit their SPORTS certificates on 09-052012 will not be allowed for verification of certificates and also they will not be considered for allotment of seats
under SPORTS. After verification of SPORTS certificates, the Commissioner for Youth Services & Sports or his
authorized nominee will prepare a preferential list among the eligible SPORTS candidates in the following order:
The candidates who have won Gold, Silver and Bronze medals in SUPER – A GAMES will be considered FIRST.
Medal winners in A – GAMES will be considered SECOND. Medal winners in B – GAMES and participant in
SUPER – A or A - GAMES will be considered THIRD. Candidates who have won Gold, Silver and Bronze medals
in B – GAMES will be considered FOURTH. Among the Sports candidates in each group, the Medals won by the
candidates in the events OR games of Sports will also be considered. Priority will be Gold to Silver and Silver to
Bronze, irrespective of number of medals. The list of eligible Sports candidates prepared by the Commissioner
for Youth Services & Sports or his authorized nominee will be final for the purpose of allotment of seats under
Sports. Thereafter, the list of eligible candidates will be prepared on the basis of CET ranking within the
preferences mentioned above and the candidates will be allowed to select the seat accordingly.
The candidates who have only National Participant certificate need not attend this Sports Special category
verification of documents on 29-06-2012. However, those who are holding only National Participant certificate
will be considered for allotment of seats as per their CET Rankings in the general round of allotment process for
the unfilled Sports seats, if any.

IMPORTANT: There will be no separate document verification schedule for Defence, Ex-Defence, Scouts &
Guides and Anglo-Indian Special categories. However, the eligible Defence, Ex-Defence, Scouts & Guides and
Anglo-Indian Special category candidates will be considered for allotment as per their CET Rankings in the
general round of allotment process for the seats reserved under the respective Special categories.
(d) FOR THE WARD OF JAMMU & KASHMIRI MIGRANTS (Only in Bangalore)
All eligible wards of Jammu & Kashmiri migrants will be allowed for verification of documents on 30-06-2011 at
11.00 am. The eligible wards of Jammu & Kashmiri migrants should COMPULSORILY submit the required
documents in original along with one set of photocopies of documents and the prescribed fee, failing which, they
will not be allowed for selecting the seats reserved in favour of the wards of Jammu & Kashmiri migrants.
VERIFICATION OF DOCUMENTS FOR GENERAL MERIT, SCHEDULED CASTE, SCHEDULED
TRIBE, CATEGORY-1, 2A, 2B, 3A, 3B AND ALL OTHER SPECIAL CATEGORIES SUCH AS
DEFENCE, EX-DEFENCE, SCOUTS & GUIDES, ANGLO INDIANS, NCC, SPORTS, CAPF AND ALL
RURAL AND KANNADA MEDIUM CATEGORIES: (IN ANY HELPLINE CENTRES)
The candidates who are claiming eligibility under clauses (c) and (d) of item 6 of Chapter-1 of brochure i.e.,
Horanadu and Gadinadu Kannadigas, will have to attend the verification process only at Bangalore centre.

After completion of verification of documents for the above categories, the document verification will be
commenced for all other eligible rank holders in accordance with the schedule which will be notified later. Before
coming to the Helpline Centres, all eligible rank holders should make sure that they have kept the required
original documents with one set of attested photocopies of all the documents.
Verification of documents will be done at once for all the disciplines to which the candidate is eligible. Once the
documents are verified, simultaneously candidate’s eligibility in other discipline will also be verified on the same
day. Hence, the candidates need not attend for verification of documents separately to all the disciplines to which
he is eligible. If the candidate is eligible for multiple disciplines i.e., for both Medical and Engineering, or eligible
for Engineering and Architecture, the candidate should bring all the relevant documents in original and one set of
attested photocopies of the same when he / she attends the verification process. Verification slip will be issued to
all the eligible candidates by mentioning the details of the candidate, documents verified, caste category and
merit / rank and discipline he is eligible etc. The candidate has to verify all the details printed on the verification
slip and changes if any should be brought to the notice of the verification officer immediately.
The candidate should compulsorily bring all necessary original documents in support of their claim
when they come for verification without fail. If any candidate fails to produce any of the documents /
certificates / marks card on the day of verification, such candidate’s documents will not be verified and
they will not complete their registration process and subsequently will not be considered for eligibility
to exercise their options.
(I) After publication of results, verification of documents of eligible candidates will take place at the
notified Helpline Centres in the notified District Head quarters. The candidate has to verify the original
documents in any of the Helpline Centres given above and as per the schedule which will be
notified later.

(ii) The candidate has to produce the specified original documents along with one set of attested
photocopies of the same for verification as per the schedule notified for document verification based on
the candidate’s rank. After verification KEA will retain one set of photocopies of the same and return the
originals to the candidate and enter all the details of the candidate’s data online in to the system which is
linked to KEA server. Further, verification slip will be issued to the candidates for having verified the
documents and an acknowledgment card will also be issued for having received one set of photocopies
of the documents.
NOTE: No changes / claims will be accepted once the documents are verified and verification slip is issued to the
candidate for any reason. The candidates are informed to verify the entries printed on the verification slip and the
acknowledgment card before leaving the verification counter. If there is any mistake, report to Verification Officer
for correction. The candidates who become eligible after verification will only be considered for entry of options
and for allotment of seats. All the details printed on the verification slip will be considered for allotment of seats.
Eligibility of candidate for consideration of seat allotment totally depends on the production of all supporting
documents at the time of verification which in turn leads to correctness of data of the candidates. Therefore the
candidate is also jointly responsible for ensuring the correctness of the data. No request for alteration of data will
be considered under any circumstances at any point of time later on.
IMPORTANT: IF the qualifying marks changes due to any reason after verification of documents, it is the
responsibility of candidate to inform the KEA authority for fresh assignment of merit order / rank. As per his / her
new merit order and as per the eligibility, the seat allotted based on the previous marks gets cancelled at any
stage. Further, the seat allotment made by KEA or the admission by the College shall be subject to approval by
the concerned University.

Tahasildar, for the candidates claiming Reservation benefits.
² Parent’s study certificate / Parent’s Hometown certificate / Parent’s Domicile certificate / Parent’s
Employment certificate / Parent’s Cumulative Record / Parent’s Marks Card, etc., for the candidates
claiming eligibility for Government seats based on the domicile / study / employment of the parent.
² Duly sworn in Affidavit of the candidate who claims eligibility under Horanadu and Gadinadu
Kannadiga clauses.
² IDENTITY CARD issued by the Jurisdictional Deputy Commissioner / District Magistrate, for the
candidates claiming eligibility for Government seats under Jammu & Kashmiri Migrants quota.

The candidate seeking allotment of Reserved Category Seat under Sub-Clause (2) of Rule 9 shall
not be considered for allotment of seats unless the candidate produces a Caste Certificate in Form
‘D’ in case of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes and in Form ‘E’ in case of Category-I and a
Caste Income Certificate in Form ‘F’ for other backward classes like 2A, 2B, 3A and 3B, issued by the
jurisdictional Tahasildar, in accordance with the Government Order No. Sa Ka E 225 BCA 2002 dated
30th March 2002 and No. Sa Ka E 104 BCA 2011 dated 06-02-2012 as amended from time to time.
Provided that the candidate belonging to SC, ST and Category-I claiming seat under reserved category
shall also produce Income certificate issued by the jurisdictional Tahasildar for verification.
Provided further that the candidate shall be eligible to claim caste, category and income benefit only if he
has claimed the same in the application form.
User ID and Password : The candidate who becomes eligible after verification of documents will be given high
security User ID and Password, which the candidate then has to login and change Password as per his / her
choice. For any reason User ID and Password should not be made known or revealed to others as it might enable
modification / tampering data. The Candidate will solely be responsible for maintaining secrecy of the Password
and KEA will not take any responsibility in this regard. Password is important and shall be held confidentially. It is
as important as the PIN of ATM card. Password is essential for candidate’s login, entry of options, change of
options, saving and deletion of options and for printing of allotment details.
Forgotten Password?
At the time of issuing password, details of procedure to be followed to obtain a new password will also be given.
Interaction Session : After verification of documents an Interaction Session will be conducted at all Helpline
Centres. In the Interaction session candidates will be briefed with regard to entry of options, procedure involved
in allotment of seats, payment of fee etc. Video presentation will also be organized at the interactive session with
practical classes.
(3) Entry of Options by Candidates : (i) Entry of options by the candidates will begin only after the receipt of
seat matrix from the Government, College wise, Course wise and Category wise seats available for allotment of
seats. The same will be published on the KEA website http://kea.kar.nic.in which can be downloaded and
printed. The seat matrix in the form of printed bulletins which will also be issued at all the Helpline Centres.
(ii) The candidate who becomes eligible after verification will only be considered for entry of options. The
candidate may enter the course / college of his choice from among the seats available which is displayed at the
time of entry of options i.e., college wise, category wise and course wise, discipline wise. The candidate will
have the choice to enter all the options in all the disciplines to which he is eligible. Candidate can enter the
options for all the discipline at once. If the candidate is eligible for multiple disciplines i.e., both for Medical /
Dental and Engineering, options can be exercised for both the disciplines in the same entry form. Upon entry of
preliminary information by the candidate on the internet at the specified URL, the option entry form will be
displayed. (Candidate has to enter his User ID and valid Password.) The entry form contains priority order
number, discipline, college name, college code and the course code. Priority order number will be displayed and
the candidate has to enter only the college code and course code in the order he / she wish as to be considered
for allotment. That means, first option may be Medical, second option may also be Medical, third option may be
Engineering, fourth one may be again Medical, fifth option can be Architecture etc and so on. In case of Medical,
Dental AND ISM & H candidate has to enter only the college code where as in case of Engineering candidate has
to enter both College Code and Course Code together. Please refer pages from 76 to 95 for details about
college information i.e., College Code and Course Codes. Exercising options means you have to select college
and courses you wish to join and arrange them in the order of priority. The format of the option entry form is given
in next page for the information of the candidates.

M101DE indicates Dental college, and Option3 E001EC indicates course Electronics and Communication in
Engineering College E001.
For Example:
1. Candidate who wishes to give option for Medical, he / she has to enter only the college code. i.e.,
M001ME, M002ME, M021ME, M031ME etc.
2. Candidate who wishes to give option for Dental, he / she has to enter only the college code, i.e.,
M101DE, M102DE, M105DE etc.
3. Candidate who wishes to give option for ISM&H, he / she has to enter only the college code, i.e.,
I701AY, I702AY, I801HO, I806HO, I901UN, I904UN, I911NY, I912NY etc.
4. Candidate who wishes to give option for Engineering, he / she has to enter college code as well
as course code, i.e., E001CS, E001EC, E194CE, E161ME etc.
5. Candidate who wishes to give option for Architecture course in Engineering, he / she has to
enter college code as well as course code (AR), i.e., E001AR, E003AR, E005AR etc.
(iii) The above table is only indicative for the information of the candidate and no inference shall be
drawn in this regard. There is no limit for entry of options. A Candidate can enter any number of options as
he / she wishes to exercise on his / her own priority. Candidates are advised to enter more number of options to
avoid the disappointment of not securing a seat. The candidate has to enter the option in the priority as he / she
desires. Candidates are advised to do thorough home assignment regarding the choices which they want to

exercise, the college which they prefer, the course which they are interested to join etc. It is better to write the
order of options on a sheet of white paper and discuss the same with your parents / guardians / mentors etc
before actually entering same in the system. Your interest in the discipline, college infrastructure, course,
distance from your place, availability of hostel etc may be some of the issues to guide your choices of options and
advice of your parents. As it will save your time and minimize your chance of making mistake in option entry on
the online option entry form. A candidate can enter any number of options through Online (Internet) of his
choice of College / Colleges and courses in the order of the choice he / she desires to enter either in the
Helpline Centres or on his / her own arrangement. Entry of options will be as per the schedule notified by
KEA in all newspapers and on the website http://kea.kar.nic.in The allotment will not proceed to the next
rank candidate till the list of your options is completely searched for availability of a seat. The candidate may
change the options as many times as he / she desires before the last date and time notified for entry of options.
After entry of options candidate has to select the button submit and logout.
Options recorded in the server on the last day and time of the notified schedule in each round will be frozen and
only the frozen options will be considered for allotment of seats. The candidates are advised to take a print out of
the option entered by them in each round after the last date and time for entry of options is over.
(iii) Please enter URL or Website address http://kea.kar.nic.in or as indicated in the notification. Upon
entry of URL you will find link like “Allotment of Seats – Entry of Options - CET-2012” and select the links
regarding the information on many items.
NOTE: Candidates are advised not to start entering the options directly on the online option form on the internet
without preparatory work at home on choice of options, as it leads to commission of mistakes / wrong entries /
wrong order of preferences.
Preparatory work at home:
Allotment of seats depends entirely on the priority of options given by the candidates as per the merit / rank.
Hence it is of utmost importance to familiarize oneself with the operation of the computer, the locking of seats so
that the correct choice and options are entered. Practice of entering of options has to be undertaken as even an
expert in computers would require a minimum of one hour for entry of about 500 options. Familiarity with the
computer, prior knowledge of the college, course is essential to fill up options. Even a small mistake in entering
the options may deprive a valuable seat in the desired college / course even though he / she is eligible for that
seat as per his / her rank. Therefore, KEA suggests that the candidate should familiarize themselves in entering
the options in the online option entry form. A home work of about an hour everyday is necessary for the students
to familiarize themselves with the allotment. The following steps may be taken by the candidates before entering
their options in the online option entry form.
² The candidate should note the name of the college, the course offered in a separate sheet of paper.
² The cut off rank for that particular college and course may be seen so that the candidate will know where
he stands vis-à-vis his ranking.
² Preparatory work should be commenced only after asserting their merit / rank order.
² The priority of options among the colleges selected should be noted down.
² Each candidate will be given an online allotment e-tutorial CD when they come for verification of
documents. This will help the students to familiarize themselves with online seat allotment.
² KEA will also offer training at the Helpline Centres to the candidates to familiarize them with the entry of
options as per their choice.
² A mock allotment on real time data given by the candidates will also be done before the actual
commencement of the Admission Round, so that the candidate can know the college and course
allotted as per his options. The candidate can also change his options after seeing the mock allotment.

(b) General Merit category candidates will be considered only in the General Merit quota. The rank list
will be invariably followed for allotment of seats. All Reserved category candidates will first be
considered for allotment in General Merit as per their merit and rank and as per the options given by
them. After the General Merit seats are exhausted the candidate belonging to the respective categories
will be allotted the seats in their respective category as per their rank and as per the options given by
them. Example1: if rank number 3005 is a General Merit candidate and he has given his option in
Medical and Engineering the Computer will search for his best options in General Merit category only. If
no seats are available he / she has to wait for the second round and give options afresh. Example2: If
rank number 3005 is a reserved candidate and has given options in Medical and Engineering then the
computer will search for the best available seat in General Merit in the first instance and if no seats are
available in General Merit then the seat in the respective category will be allotted to him / her as per his /
her category and merit.
² Reserved Rural and Kannada Medium Category students will be first allotted in General Merit Category,
then in the Rural and Kannada Medium of General Merit category and respective general of the
reserved category and finally in the Rural and Kannada Medium of the respective category subject to
availability of seats.
4. Allotment of seats: The Government issues a separate notification reserving certain seats exclusively for
Special Categories such as NCC, Sports, Defence, Ex-Defence, CAPF, Anglo Indians, Scouts and Guides etc.
The allotment starts with allotment of seats to Differently Abled Category in the first instance followed by NCC
(Preference 1 to 7) and Sports (Preference 1 to 4). It is important to note that the seats will be allotted to these
Special Categories on the basis of a separate seat matrix issued by the Government. In other words, seats under
Special Categories will be allotted to the Special Category Candidates only within the Special Category Seat
Matrix issued by the Government.

The allotment by the computer starts with the Special Category list such as NCC, Sports and Physically
Disabled categories. All NCC candidates holding preference 1 to 7 will be allotted seats in NCC quota as
per their preference and if the preference is the same the interse merit among the candidates will be
considered. Likewise candidates in Sports category in preference 1 to 4 will be allotted in Sports quota and
where the preferences are equal the interse merit will be considered. The computer then proceeds to allot
seats to the Physically Disabled persons as per their rank and options. As per the Act, 3 % of the seats in all
Government, Aided and Unaided private colleges in Medical / Engineering / Architecture / ISMH courses
are reserved and candidates belonging to the Physically Disabled Category can give options as per the
seat matrix in these colleges.

Separate seat matrix will be issued by the Government for Special Categories and candidates belonging to
these categories will have to give their options as per the seat matrix issued by the Government for these
Special Categories.

NCC category candidates who hold only “B” certificate will not be considered in the Special Category
allotment and they will be given the left out seats if any after allotment to the Preference Holders 1 to 7 as
per their rank and options given by them in the Admission Round. While giving options candidates
belonging to NCC category who hold only “B” certificate are advised to give options after going through the
availability of seats under NCC quota. Similarly candidates belonging to Sports quota who hold only
“National Participant Certificate” will not be allotted seats in the Special Category allotment and they will be
considered as per their rank and preference given by them for all seats lying vacant in Sports quota after the
allotment of seats to the candidates who are having Preference 1 to 4. Therefore these candidates are also
advised to exercise their options after verifying the availability of seats in the Sports quota.

While allotting to Special Category candidates like Defence, Ex-Defence, Scouts and Guides, AGL, NCC
(Preference 8 - Only B Certificate holders), Sports (Preference 5 – Only National Participants), seats will be

first allotted under General Merit category, if the seat is not available in GM then it will be allotted in the
respective reserved category if seats are available and then finally the seats will be allotted under Special
Category if seats are available in the order of merit.
While allotting to Jammu and Kashmiri migrant candidates, the seats will be allotted as per the options
exercised by them. As per the Government direction, one seat each only in Government colleges for
Medical and Dental Discipline and in case of Engineering one seat in each college (irrespective of the
course) will be offered to the eligible candidates. The seat matrix for Medical discipline is within the seat
matrix fixed by the Government in Government Medical and Dental colleges. The Director of Medical
Education issues the seat matrix indicating the number of seats in Government Medical and Government
Dental colleges only. For example if there are 150 seats in Government colleges in the General Merit quota
the Jammu and Kashmir candidates will be allotted seats within this 150 quota only in case of Medical and
Dental colleges and the balance left over will be allotted to the other category and General Merit
candidates. However, in case of Engineering it will be over and above the seat matrix in each college. For
example if there are 120 seats in a college in all the disciplines, then one seat in any discipline will be
allotted to the J & K candidates as per the seat matrix by the Government for Jammu and Kashmir migrant
quota over and above the intake i.e., in this case is 120. In other words, one seat irrespective of course and
the seat matrix will be allotted to the Jammu and Kashmiri migrants as per their rank and as per the options
given by them.
The seats will be allotted to only eligible candidates. The candidate’s seat would automatically be cancelled
upon allotment of seats of other option of such candidate and such cancelled seat will be kept separately
and then added to the seat matrix in the second round. Therefore, it is imperative for all candidates to give
fresh options after completion of every round.
The seats will be allotted to only those who are eligible and who have given options. If a candidate fails to
exercise his option then such candidate will not be allotted any seat. The Jammu and Kashmir quota in
Engineering is a Supernumerary Quota seat and lapses if there is no eligible Jammu and Kashmiri migrant
candidate.

The entire process of allotment is controlled by sophisticated software and high end computers which examine
minutely the options given by the candidates for allotment of the best possible seat to the candidate as per the
rank and options given. Therefore, it is very important that the candidate should be very clear about the choice of
the course, discipline which he is interested in. For example if a candidate is interested only in Medical seats then
he can give all the options in all the colleges for allotment of Medical seats only. There are 33 Medical colleges
and the candidates can give 33 options. The computer will decide the best seat available for allotment as per the
rank and order of options of the candidate. Similarly a candidate may be interested only in Engineering and he
may opt for a particular course in a particular college as per his choice. For example suppose a candidate is
interested in Electronic branch only, then he can give his preference for Electronic course only in all the colleges.
There are 186 colleges and he can give 186 options. The computer will pick up the best options available as per
merit and order of options. In other words the candidate is free to give as many options in as many courses in as
many colleges as he deems fit. The more number of options the better it is for the candidate to secure a seat of his
choice.
If a candidate is eligible for both Medical and Engineering discipline and his first desire is the Medical Stream
then in such case he has to give as much options as possible for Medical. The order of preference for Medical
should be more than other disciplines. The computer in such case will find the best options as per the rank and
allot a seat to the candidate.

Likewise if a candidate is interested only in Engineering he may skip the option of giving choice for Medical and
concentrate only on Engineering courses. Even in Engineering stream if the candidate is particular about a
particular course then he has to give more options for that particular course in his options.
The candidates are advised to gather information about the colleges, the courses offered, infrastructure
available, teaching faculty, laboratory facilities, hostel facilities and any other information which would help him /
her in narrowing his options. The distance from his / her house, the mode of transport, the hostel facilities and the
environment etc are also prime factors in deciding priority of options.

After the verification of documents and excising options by the candidate the seats will be allotted as in previous
years in three rounds i.e., (1) Admission Round (2) Casual Vacancy Category Round (3) Casual Vacancy Round

The computer starts Medical Round allotment with Rank 1. Then after completing allotment till rank 261, it
reaches rank 262. Rohit’s Medical rank is 262 and option number 1 is not be available. Similarly option number 2
is not being available as the candidate above his rank has already been allotted and no vacancy exists. The next
option is 3 and the college code is 3 and that option is available. Hence the computer will allot option number 3 to
the candidate. Now all the other downward options i.e. below option 3 will be removed / disabled. (will not be
considered for further iteration). The candidate can now download his allotted details and join the college if he is
satisfied with the allotment otherwise he has to exercise fresh options in the next round after verifying the
availability of seats. The option exercise is now number 3 and the college allotted is number 3. However, if the
candidate participates in the next round / Casual Vacancy Round and exercise his option and if there is an
improvement in the next round then the candidate will be allotted the improved seat. In this instance his second
choice is college code 13 and he will be allotted college code 13 as per his second option if he has given fresh
options. If no improvement is there then existing allotted seat will continue.

The candidate is considered as per his / her rank in each discipline as per his options in the order of priority
mentioned by the candidate.
The allotment starts with the Medical discipline. All candidates who have a Medical rank will be considered and
their options will be noted by the computer. In the instance case his Medical option is 3 hence, the first two options
which are Engineering options will not be considered during Medical allotment stage, but would be considered
during engineering allotment process and if he gets engineering seat as per option 1 or option 2 then the option 3
medical will be revert back to the pool.
CASE No. I
At Stage I : During Medical seats allotment the candidate is picked as per his Medical rank. All his Medical
options are considered i.e., 3, 6 in the order of priority. If the candidate gets his/her seat for the option of priority
no.6 (Dental, 102, D) then the seat will be allotted. The choice list for further stages like Engineering, ISMH,
Architecture etc., will be reduced to priority from 1 to 5.
At Stage II : During ISMH seats allotment the candidate is picked as per his/her ISMH rank. All his ISMH options
are considered i.e., 4, 5 in the order of priority. The candidate does not get any ISMH seats for that rank, so his
Medical seat is retained. The choice list from (1 to 5) for further stages will remain unchanged.
At Stage III : During Engineering seats allotment the candidate is picked as per his/her Engineering rank. All his
Engineering options above 6 (i.e., from 1 to 5) are considered. i.e., 1, 2 in the order of priority. If the candidate gets
his/her seat for the options of priority no.2 (Engineering, 5, CS) then that seat will be allotted and the previously
allotted seat (Medical – option 3) will be returned to the seat matrix. The choice list for further stages like
Architecture will be eliminated.
CASE No. II
At Stage I : During Medical seat allotment the candidate is picked as per his/her Medical rank. All his Medical
options are considered i.e., option no.3, 6 in the order of rank and priority. However, both these seats have been
allotted to candidates higher in the merit order claiming seat in this round. The candidate is not getting any
Medical seat. The choice list for further stages like Engineering, ISMH, Architecture will remain unchanged.
At Stage II : During ISMH seat allotment the candidate is picked as per his/her ISMH rank. All his ISMH options
are considered i.e, 4, 5 in the order of priority. The seat at option 4 is available. The candidate is allotted the ISMH
seat at priority no.4 (I702 AY). Hence, the choice list for further stage like Architecture etc., will be reduced to
priority 1 to 3.
At Stage III : During Engineering seat allotment the candidate is picked as per his/her Engineering rank. All his
Engineering options above priority 6 (from 1 to 5) are considered i.e., 1, 2 in the order of priority. If the candidate
gets his/her seat for the option of priority no.1 (Engineering, 3, EC) then the seat will be allotted. The choice list for
further stages like Architecture etc., will be eliminated.
CASE No. III
At Stage I : During Medical seat allotment the candidate is picked as per his/her Medical rank. All his Medical
options are considered i.e., 3, 6 in the order of priority. If the candidate gets his/her seat for the options of priority

no. 6 (Medical, 102, D) then the seat will be allotted. The choice list for further stages like Engineering, ISMH,
Architecture will be reduced to priority from 1 to 5.
At Stage II : During ISMH allotment the candidate is picked as per his/her ISMH rank. All his ISMH options are
considered i.e., 4, 5 in the order of priority. The candidate does not get any ISMH rank. The choice list for further
stages will remain unchanged (1 to 5).
At Stage III : During Engineering seat allotment the candidate is picked as per his/her Engineering rank. All his
Engineering options above priority 6 (1 to 5) are considered i.e., 1, 2 in the order of priority. The candidate is not
getting any Engineering seats. The choice list for further stages will remain unchanged.
At Stage IV : During Architecture seat allotment the candidate is picked as per his/her Architecture rank. His
Architecture rank is not considered since the priority (7) is greater than 5. System assumes that his higher option
is satisfied.
The same procedure is followed for all the stages and each stage is known as one iteration. Therefore there may
be many iterations in one round. The iteration will stop when the seats are exhausted or the choice of the
candidate is over. By this method the candidate gets the best of the best seat as per his choice and options and
as per his rank. The candidate can track the allotment of seats in every iteration stage.
Summary
This illustrates that at each stage, the options are getting shrunk before moving to the next stage, if seats are
allotted. If seats are not allotted, the options list remains unchanged.
The seats which are returned back to seat matrix in the process of allotment stages will be allotted to the next
candidate as per rank and options. This way there will be a number of iterations till the candidate gets the best
seat of his choice governed by rank. This means, the system halts allotment when no seats are available for a
candidate as per his options.
Automatic Seat Allotment Process:
The automatic seat allotment process shown below shows the iteration process by which the computer allots the
best of the best seats to the candidates. Presume that there are five rank holders namely, rank 1001, 1002, 1003,
1004 and 1005 and their options are as follows:

seat matrix of the same college and it is available to the next eligible candidates in the next iteration stage.
Again the computer will move on to Engineering rank number 1002. The first and second choice is Medical.
Since no Medical iteration is done at this stage, computer will consider the first Engineering option of the
candidate. Here the candidate has given option number 3 in E501 college for CS course. Since the seat is
available for allotment the computer will allot this seat to this rank holder 1002.
The computer then moves on to rank number 1003. His second option is Engineering in E201 college for EC
branch. Since the seat is available seat will be allotted to her/him. The computer then moves to rank number
1004. Since no Engineering seats are available for allotment no seat will be allotted to this rank number 1004.

Engineering are considered he will not be entitled for any Medical seat as his Medical option was eighth. The
computer then moves to rank number 1002. Where his first option is Medical in M021ME college. Since the seat
is available it will be allotted to her/him. The Engineering seat E501CS allotted to Rank 2002 previously is
cancelled and the same goes to the seat matrix of the respective college for allotment in the subsequent
iterations.

It can be seen that in the first iteration stage the Medical seat was allotted to 1001 and in the second iteration stage the
Medical seat goes to rank number 1002. The consequence of allotment of a Medical seat to rank number 1002 is that,

The above chart shows the importance of giving the correct options for the allotment of desired seat. Like this the
computer will carry out a number of iterations until the seats are exhausted or the options of the candidates are
considered. Many such iterations will make up one round.
What does Iteration Means?
Iteration means in simple words, repetition of the cycle of allotment of seats to a candidate as per his / her
rank and as per his / her options. The Dictionary meaning of Iteration is “Repeat”. Therefore, by running
the availability of seats with the choice of the candidates as per the rank a final allotment takes place in that
stage. This repetition of the seat matrix with the choice of the candidate as per his / her rank is known as
Iteration. Many such Iterations makes for one round. The Iteration stops when the seats are exhausted or
the choices of all the candidate are exhausted whichever happens first.
All the stages taken together as detailed above will form one round and the stages mentioned above, are known
as iteration stage. The iteration stage in each round will go on as long as the choice of the candidates are not
fulfilled or the availability seats is not exhausted. In this way each candidate will get either a Medical seat or an
Engineering seat or ISMH seat as per his/her rank and priority in the respective disciplines. Therefore it is very
important to candidates to give their options/choices very carefully and after considerable thought and after
discussing with their parents and elders. If by chance the options given by the candidate is not well thought he
may lose a seat in a good college as he may not have given option for that particular college or would have given
lower options. For example a candidate is interested in college A, but by mistake or by oversight he has given a
lower preference for that college and has given higher preference for some other college. The computer then will
allot a seat as per his rank and as per his higher priorities. In this way he may tend to lose a seat in the college of
his choice merely because he has not given a correct priority of options.
The iteration stage starts with Medical/Dental seats, and goes on till the Medical seats is exhausted or choice of
candidate is exhausted. Similarly in the 2nd iteration stage the choice of the candidates in ISMH discipline is
considered and in the 3rd iteration stage the choice of candidates in Engineering is considered and finally the 4th
iteration stage the choice of the candidate for Architecture discipline is considered. If the candidate has given his
first choice as Engineering and 2nd choice as Medical then in the 1st stage of iteration the Medical seat at option
no.2 will be considered and a Medical seat will be allotted to him as per his priority and rank if seats are available.
So in the 1st iteration the candidate will get a Medical seat and immediately in the Engineering iteration stage the
candidate will be allotted the Engineering seat as per his rank and priority by cancelling the Medical seat as the
first priority is Engineering. The Medical seat so cancelled will be added to seat matrix of the same college and

category and allotted to the next candidate as per his/her rank and priority. Therefore the candidate ultimately
gets the seats of his choice/priority. In the final analysis the candidate gets the best of the best seats of his
choice.
5. Downloading of allotted details
After the entire iteration of all the disciplines is complete the final list will be announced on the website and this is
known as the Admission Round. Therefore, many iteration may take place in one round as per the choice of the
candidate and as per the availability of seats. The candidate can track down the movement of seats in the
different iteration stages to satisfy himself the best of the choices is allotted to him. Virtual tracking of the process
of allotment by the computer can be viewed by the candidate after allotment. This ensures transparency in the
entire allotment stage and KEA is known for its motto “Trust through Total Transparency”. The final list of the
Admission Round will be hosted on the website and the candidates are requested to note the allotment of seats
to them in the Admission Round. The candidate here has 3 choices. The choices are: Choice 1:
Satisfied with the allotted seat and candidate is willing to report to the allotted college, therefore
candidate will not be considered for further allotment of seats in any subsequent round for any
discipline. Such candidates should pay the prescribed fees by downloading the allotted details
in the Helpline Centres, obtain the admission order and report to the college.
Provided that the candidate who has paid the fees and obtained the Admission Order and fails to
report to the College on or before the last date and time specified by KEA in the Admission Order,
for such candidates no extension of time will be given and the allotment made in his favour shall
be treated as Cancelled and he / she has no claim further on such allotment and they will not be
considered for allotment of seats in the subsequent round. Such seats shall revert back to the
pool and fee paid by them will be forfeited.
Implication: Not eligible to participate in the subsequent round.
Choice2:
Satisfied with the allotted seat but wishes to participate in the next round with fresh options. If
fresh options gets allotted then earlier allotted seat get cancelled automatically OR if fresh
options seats are not allotted then earlier allotted seat shall remain in candidates favour.
Implication: Eligible to participate in the subsequent round keeping the seat allotted on
hold till he gets fresh options.
Choice3:
Not satisfied with allotted seat but wishes to consider in the next round with fresh options by
surrendering the allotted seat.
Implication: Eligible to participate in the subsequent round with fresh options but no hold
on the allotted seat.
NOTE:
KEA has been insisting on the candidates to give fresh options in each round. This is because
the seat matrix may change or some seats may be added or some of the seats may be
surrendered by the Colleges or permission may be granted for opening of new colleges or
courses. Therefore it is imperative for the candidates to give fresh options at every round.
Suppose a candidate does not give options in a particular round, then he / she will not be
considered for allotment in that particular round, but he / she may give fresh options in the
subsequent rounds. In other words, the candidate is free to give his / her options at every round
and if no options are given in one no allotment takes place in that particular round but he / she is
free to give fresh options in the next round and he / she will be considered as per his / her options
in that particular round for the available seats.
A gap of 7 days will be given to the candidates from the date of hosting the allotment details on the website in the
Admission Round to excise their choice of willingness or unwillingness. All candidates who are not satisfied with
the choice of seat or course allotted shall necessarily give their willingness for the next round of allotment i.e., the
casual vacancy category round. In this round at the first stage all seats available/not allotted or those allotted to
candidates and returned back by the candidates to KEA will be put for allotment. In addition in this round all seats

in Rural category and Kannada medium category will be converted into the respective GM category of that
particular category, for e.g., in category 2A there are 3 seats in Kannada medium and 2 seats n Rural category
these seats could not be allotted in the previous round as there were no candidates available in that particular
category, these 5 seats will be converted into 2A General category (2AG) and the same will be consider for
allotment to the 2AG category candidates in this round. Similarly Rural and Kannada medium seats of GM,
Category-1, 2B, 3A, 3B and SC & ST will be converted to the respective GM category and will be considered for
allotment to respective category candidates in this round. All eligible candidates will be allowed to exercise
fresh options again in this round. The options exercised afresh by candidate will be considered for allotment
of seats in this round. After iteration in this round the final list of allotted seats to candidates will be put up on the
website. The candidate again has the 3 options as detailed above regarding acceptance or rejection of the
allotted seats. Time gap of 7 days will be given to the candidates to exercise the above options.
Casual Vacancy Round
Before commencement of the Casual Vacancy Round the details of the seats remaining under special category
such as NCC, Sports, PH will be hosted on the website. All eligible candidates who are not satisfied with the
choice of seat or course allotted earlier shall necessarily give their willingness for participating in the next round
of allotment. The eligible candidates who are willing to participate in this round have to exercise fresh
options. By following the procedure mentioned above, the allotment of seats will be done in this round. The final
list of seats allotted under NCC, Sports and PH category in this round under various discipline will be hosted on
the website. The candidates who have allotted seats in this round are not eligible to participate in the
subsequent rounds. They are invariably pay the fees and obtain the admission order and reported to the
colleges. The candidate has to inform the KEA the date of his joining the college.
After completion of this round the seats that remaining under Rural and Kannada Medium categories under
reserved categories or under General Merit as the case may be shall be transferred to the respective General
categories. The Casual Vacancy seat allotment will be held for reserve categories like SC, ST, Category-1, 2A,
2B, 3A, 3B along with seats that remaining under NCC (B Certificate holders) and Sports (National Participants)
along with other special categories like Defence, Ex-defence, Scouts & Guides, Anglo Indian will be held in the
first instance. The candidate who is willing to participate in this round will be allowed to exercise fresh
options. The seat will be allotted as per the options exercised by the candidate in this round by following the
procedure mentioned above. After iteration in this round the final list of allotted candidates will be put up on the
website. The candidate again has the 3 options as detailed above regarding acceptance or rejections of the
allotted seats. Time gap of 7 days will be given to the candidates to exercise the above options.
The seats that remained unfilled thereafter under various categories shall be transferred to GM category and
shall be offered to all the eligible candidates including the reserved category candidates. The consequential
vacancies arising in any category shall be retained in the same category and shall be allotted to candidates
belonging to respective categories only.
Based on the fresh options exercised by the candidates allotment of seats will be done in the manner detailed
above. The final list of allotted seats will be hosted on the website. The candidates have to pay the prescribed fee
in the helpline centers and obtained the admission order and report to the concerned college within the last date
mentioned in the admission order. The College Authorities/candidates has to inform the KEA the date of his
joining the college.
ADMISSION ROUND SEAT ALLOTMENT
The allotment of seats in the Admission Round will be done in the following stages and all eligible candidates will
be considered for allotment in the order of merit and priority of options entered by the candidates:
STAGE – 1 : For Physically Disabled, NCC and Sports Special category candidates.
The Physically Disabled candidates who become eligible after verification of documents and
examination by the Medical Board on 27-06-2012 and those who have entered their options as

per the schedule will only be considered for allotment of seats in respective discipline to which
they are eligible in the order of merit and priority of options as per the seat matrix. 3% of the seats
in all the Government, Private Aided and Private Unaided Medical, Dental and Engineering
colleges will be reserved for Physically Disabled candidates. The seats will be allotted only
considering the seat matrix issued by the Government for this Special Category.
The NCC candidates who becomes eligible after verification of documents by the concerned
authority on 28-06-2012 and those who have entered their options as per the schedule will only
be considered for allotment of seats in respective discipline to which they are eligible in the order
of preference, merit and options entered by candidates as per the seat matrix issued by the
Government for this Special Category.
The Sports candidate who becomes eligible after verification of documents by the concerned
authority on 29-06-2012 and those who have entered their options as per the schedule will only
be considered for allotment of seats in respective discipline to which they are eligible in the order
of preference, merit and options entered by candidates and as per the seat matrix issued by the
Government for this Special Category.
STAGE – 2 :
For the ward of Jammu & Kashmiri migrants.
The candidate who become eligible after verification of documents and those who have entered
their options as per the schedule will only be considered for allotment of seats in respective
discipline to which they are eligible in the order of preference, merit and options entered by
candidates.
As per the direction of the Government, one seat each in Government colleges for Medical and
Dental Discipline and in case of Engineering one seat in every college (irrespective of the
course) will be offered to the eligible candidates.
STAGE – 3 :
For Medical and Dental courses.
The Medical and Dental seats pertaining to all reserved categories, Rural, Kannada Medium,
General merit and other Special categories such as Defence, Ex-Defence, Scouts & Guides,
Anglo-Indian, CAPF along with the unfilled NCC & Sports, if any, will be allotted in this stage at
once. The seat matrix issued by the Government will be considered for allotment of seats in this
round.
All the candidates (SCR, SCK, SCG, STR, STK, STG, 1R, 1K, 1G, 2AR, 2AK, 2AG, 2BR, 2BK,
2BG, 3AR, 3AK, 3AG, 3BR, 3BK, 3BG, GMR, GMK, GM and other Special Categories like
Defence, Ex-Defence, Scouts & Guides, Anglo-Indian, CAPF, NCC (only ‘B’ certificate holders)

allotted in the earlier STAGES of Admission Round, if any, shall stand automatically cancelled, if
a candidate is allotted a Medical / Dental seat in this STAGE.
STAGE – 4 :
For Ayurveda, Unani, Naturopathy & Yoga and Homoeopathy courses.
The ISM & H seats pertaining to all reserved categories, rural, Kannada medium, General merit
and other Special categories such as Defence, Ex-Defence, Scouts & Guides, Anglo-Indian,
CAPF along with the unfilled NCC & Sports, if any, will be allotted in this stage at once. The seat
matrix issued by the Government will be considered for allotment of seats in this round.

The Engineering seats pertaining to all reserved categories, rural, Kannada medium, General
merit and other Special categories such as Defence, Ex-Defence, Scouts & Guides, AngloIndian along with the unfilled NCC & Sports, if any, will be allotted in this stage at once. The seat
matrix issued by the Government will be considered for allotment of seats in this round.
All the candidates (SCR, SCK, SCG, STR, STK, STG, 1R, 1K, 1G, 2AR, 2AK, 2AG, 2BR, 2BK,
2BG, 3AR, 3AK, 3AG, 3BR, 3BK, 3BG, GMR, GMK, GM and other Special Categories like
Defence, Ex-Defence, Scouts & Guides, Anglo-Indian, CAPF NCC (only ‘B’ certificate holders)
and Sports (Only National participants).) who become eligible and those who have entered their
options as per the schedule will only be considered for allotment of seats in the order of
preference, merit and options entered by candidates. Seat allotted in the earlier STAGES of
Admission Round, if any, shall stand automatically cancelled, if a candidate allotted an
Engineering seat in this STAGE.
STAGE – 6 :
For Architecture course.
The Architecture seats pertaining to all reserved categories, rural, Kannada medium, General
merit and other Special categories such as Defence, Ex-Defence, Scouts & Guides, AngloIndian, CAPF along with the unfilled NCC & Sports, if any, will be allotted in this stage at once.
The seat matrix issued by the Government will be considered for allotment of seats in this round.
All the candidates (SCR, SCK, SCG, STR, STK, STG, 1R, 1K, 1G, 2AR, 2AK, 2AG, 2BR, 2BK,
2BG, 3AR, 3AK, 3AG, 3BR, 3BK, 3BG, GMR, GMK, GM and other Special Categories like
Defence, Ex-Defence, Scouts & Guides, Anglo-Indian, CAPF, NCC (only ‘B’ certificate holders)
and Sports (Only National participants).) who become eligible after verification of documents
and those who have entered their options as per the schedule will only be considered for
allotment of seats in the order of preference, merit and options entered by candidates. Seat
allotted in the earlier STAGES of Admission Round, if any, shall stand automatically cancelled, if
a candidate allotted Architecture seat in this STAGE.
NOTE : IN ALL THE ABOVE STAGES, THE CANDIDATES BELONGING TO RESERVED CATEGORIES SUCH
AS SC, ST, CATEGORY – 1, 2A, 2B, 3A, 3B, RURAL & KANNADA MEDIUM WILL BE CONSIDERED FOR
ALLOTMENT OF A SEAT UNDER GENERAL MERIT CATEGORY ALSO.
After the allotment of seats in the Admission Round is completed the list of seats allotted discipline wise and merit
wise will be hosted on the KEA Website and also on the notice boards of the Helpline Centres. The candidate
shall have the following three choices regarding allotment of seats.

Choice 1:

Satisfied with the allotted seat but wishes to consider in the next round with fresh options. If fresh
options gets allotted then earlier allotted seat get cancelled automatically OR if fresh options
seats not allotted then earlier allotted seat shall remain in candidates favour.
Implication: Eligible to participate in the subsequent round keeping the seat allotted on
hold till he gets fresh options.
Choice 3 :
Not satisfied with allotted seat but wishes to consider in the next round with fresh options
by surrendering the allotted seat.
Implication: Eligible to participate in the subsequent round with fresh options but no hold
on the allotted seat.
NOTE : 1. Candidate who fails to exercise above choices within the stipulated date and time then seats allotted if
any will be cancelled and added to the pool and such candidates will be given one more opportunity to be
considered for allotment of seats in the subsequent eligible round.
2. If a candidate fails to exercise above choices even for the second consecutive time, he / she will not be
considered for further rounds of allotment for any discipline and seats allotted will be cancelled and added to the
pool immediately after the last date is over.
6. Remittance of Fees and collection of admission orders
If the candidate is satisfied with the allotted seat, he / she can download the allotted details along with challan and
has to pay notified fee in the form of crossed demand draft drawn in favour of “The Executive Director,
Karnataka Examinations Authority” payable at the respective Helpline Centres in the designated bank
established at Helpline Centres. On production of bank challan for having paid the fees KEA will issue Admission
Order. The candidate has to report to the allotted college on or before the date mentioned in the Admission Order.
Upon reporting to the College, the candidate is required to update the status of his / her reporting. The Principal of
the College shall also enter the details of the reported candidate in the backend software provided by KEA as and
when the candidate takes the Admission before the last date. The candidate should also upload the reporting
details by accessing his / her account.
(iv) The candidate who has paid the fees and obtained the Admission Order and fails to report to the College on or
before the last date and time specified by KEA in the Admission Order, for such candidates no extension of time
will be given and the allotment made in his favour shall be treated as Cancelled and he / she has no claim further
on such allotment and he / she will not be considered for allotment of seats in the subsequent round. Such seats
shall revert back to the pool.

PROCEDURE FOLLOWED FOR CONVERSION OF UNFILLED SEATS
After completion of the Admission Round, the seats that remain unfilled under all the Rural and Kannada
medium quota of the reserved categories will be converted to General of the respective reserved categories
(SCR & SCK to SCG, STR & STK to STG, 1R & 1K to 1G, 2AR & 2AK to 2AG, 2BR & 2BK to 2BG, 3AR & 3AK
to 3AG, 3BR & 3BK to 3BG) before the commencement of Casual Vacancy Round and offered ONLY to the
reserved category candidates (including GMR & GMK category candidates) along with the cancelled seats
in the respective categories. Thereafter, the seats that remain unfilled under various reserved General
categories such as SCG, STG, 1G, 2AG, 2BG, 3AG, 3BG, GMR and GMK, along with unfilled special
category seats, if any, will be converted to the General Merit category and offered to GM candidates along
with all other reserved category candidates in the General Casual Vacancy Round. However, the
consequential Rural and Kannada medium reserved category seats that arise during the reserved category
Casual Vacancy Round and if remains unallotted then the same seat will be converted to the General of the
respective reserved categories only if there are no seats in the respective general category and will be made
available for allotment only to the respective reserved category candidates during General Merit Casual
Vacancy Round.
IMPORTANT:
1. This procedure of conversion of seats will be adopted before the commencement of Casual Vacancy
Round in respect of all the disciplines. Further, if the reserved category candidates allotted with a General
Merit / respective reserved category seat during the General Casual Vacancy Round, then a reserved
category seat becomes vacant. Such seats are treated as ‘CONSEQUENTIAL CASUAL VACANCIES’.
These consequential reserved category vacancies that arise during the General Casual Vacancy Round
will remain under the same categories and will be offered only to the candidates belonging to the same
reserved categories.
2. The reserved category seat cancelled by a candidate either before the commencement of Casual
Vacancy Round or during the Casual Vacancy Round at any stage, will not be converted to General Merit
category and such reserved category cancelled seats will be allotted only to the respective category
candidates.
CASUAL VACANCY ROUND ALLOTMENT OF SEATS.
After completion of Admission Round seat allotment, all the unfilled / surrendered / forfeited / cancelled / newly
added seats, if any, will be offered as CASUAL VACANCIES. All candidates who have allotted seat and not
reported to the college, will be considered for allotment of seats in the Casual Vacancy Round along with all those
candidates who have not allotted any seat in any of the above stages in the Admission Round.
IMPORTANT: The candidate who likes to be considered for allotment of seats in the Casual Vacancy
Round must compulsorily exercise their options afresh. The options entered by the candidate in the
Admission Round will not be taken in to account for the purpose of allotment of seats in the Casual
Vacancy Round. If the candidate fails to enter fresh options he will not be considered for allotment of
seats in the Casual Vacancy Round. The options should be entered in the same manner as followed in
the Admission Round.
IMPORTANT NOTE: (1) A candidate who has been allotted with a Medical / Dental seat in the Casual Vacancy
Round or the candidate who confirms the Medical / Dental seat allotted in the Admission Round will not be
eligible for participating in the subsequent stages of Casual Vacancy Round for other disciplines. Likewise, a
candidate who is allotted with an ISM & Homoeopathy seat during Casual Vacancy Round or the candidate who

confirms the ISM & H seat selected during the Admission Round will not be eligible for participating in the
Engineering / Technology / Architecture Casual Vacancy Rounds and a candidate who allotted with an
Engineering / Technology seat during Casual Vacancy Round or the candidate who confirms the Engineering /
Technology seat allotted during the Admission Round will not be eligible for participating in the Architecture
Casual Vacancy Round.
Provided that the candidates who are allotted Medical / Dental seat in the Admission Round and who want to opt
for Indian System of Medicine and Homoeopathy or Engineering / Technology or Architecture seat in the Casual
Vacancy Round, should invariably surrender the Medical / Dental seat before the commencement of Medical /
Dental Casual Vacancy Round. Provided further that the candidates who are allotted Indian System of Medicine
and Homoeopathy seat in the Admission Round and who want to opt for Engineering / Technology or
Architecture seat in the Casual Vacancy Round, should invariably surrender the Indian System of Medicine and
Homoeopathy seat before the commencement of Indian System of Medicine and Homoeopathy Casual
Vacancy Round. This proviso is applicable for the Casual Vacancy Rounds for Engineering / Technology and
Architecture courses also.
(2) The candidates who have been allotted seats in the Casual Vacancy Round should invariably report to the
respective colleges by following all the procedures.
(3) If a candidate does not surrender the seat to KEA before the commencement of the Casual Vacancy Round,
he / she shall be deemed to have got admitted to the allotted college in either of the rounds.
(4) If a candidate decides to surrender the seats, he / she has to surrender the seat only to KEA. Merely not
reporting to the allotted college should not be presumed by the candidate that he / she has surrendered the seat
to KEA.
The Casual Vacancy Round allotment of seats process will be held as per the schedule which will be notified
later. In the first instance Casual Vacancy Round will be held for reserved categories and special categories
including GMR and GMK candidates, but the seats pertaining to General Merit will not be considered for
allotment of seats. After completion of reserved and special categories Casual Vacancy Round, the Casual
Vacancy Round will be held for General Merit seats, where in all the reserved category candidates will be
considered for allotment of seats in the order of merit. The different stages of Casual Vacancy Round allotment of
seats are as follows:
STAGE – 1 : CASUAL VACANCY ROUND FOR MEDICAL AND DENTAL COURSES
The Medical and Dental Casual vacancies, if any, will be offered in the following three rounds:

National participants). The seats pertaining to GENERAL MERIT category will not be offered in
this round.
(3) General Merit and all reserved categories: In this round, the seats that remain unfilled under
all reserved and special categories after completion of the above rounds will be converted to
General Merit category and will be offered to General Merit category candidates along with all
other reserved category candidates.

The I. S. M. & Homoeopathy Casual vacancies, if any, will be offered in the following three
rounds:
(1) Special categories: In this round, the casual vacancies, if any, will be offered to Physically
Disabled, NCC (Preference 1 to 7) and Sports (Preference 1 to 4) Special category candidates.
(2) Reserved, Rural, Kannada Medium & all Special categories : In this round, the casual
vacancies, if any, will be offered to all reserved, rural and Kannada medium candidates such as

all reserved and special categories after completion of the above rounds will be converted to
General Merit category and will be offered to General Merit category candidates along with all
other reserved category candidates.
Causal Vacancy Round choices:
The following choices will be available for the candidates who have been allotted with ISM & H
seats in the Casual Vacancy Round.
Satisfied with the allotted seat and candidate is willing to report to the allotted college, further

STAGE – 3 : CASUAL VACANCY ROUND FOR ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY COURSES
The Engineering and Technology Casual vacancies, if any, will be offered in the following three
rounds :
(1) Special categories : In this round, the casual vacancies, if any, will be offered to Physically
Disabled, NCC (Preference 1 to 7) and Sports (Preference 1 to 4) Special category candidates
followed by the wards of Jammu and Kashmiri migrants.
(2) Reserved, Rural, Kannada Medium & all Special categories : In this round, the casual
vacancies, if any, will be offered to all reserved, rural and Kannada medium candidates such as
SCR, SCK, SCG, STR, STK, STG, 1R, 1K, 1G, 2AR, 2AK, 2AG, 2BR, 2BK, 2BG, 3AR, 3AK,
3AG, 3BR, 3BK, 3BG, GMR, GMK and other special categories like Defence, Ex-Defence,
Scouts & Guides, Anglo-Indian, CAPF, NCC (only ‘B’ certificate holders) and Sports (Only
National participants). The seats pertaining to GENERAL MERIT category will not be offered in
this round.
(3) General Merit and all reserved categories: In this round, the seats that remain unfilled under
all reserved and special categories after completion of the above rounds will be converted to
General Merit category and will be offered to General Merit category candidates along with all
other reserved category candidates.
Causal Vacancy Round choices:
The following choices will be available for the candidates who have been allotted with
Engineering seats in the Casual Vacancy Round.
Satisfied with the allotted seat and candidate is willing to report to the allotted college, further
Choice 1 :
candidate is not interested to be considered for further allotment of seats in any subsequent
round for any discipline. Such candidates should pay the prescribed fees by downloading the
allotted details in the Helpline Centres.
Not satisfied with allotted seat and wishes to surrender the allotted Engineering seat before the
Choice 2 :
last date for commencement of Architecture Casual Vacancy Round and consider him afresh for
allotment of Architecture seat.
Not satisfied with allotted seat and not to be considered for allotment of seats in any further
Choice 3 :
rounds for any discipline.
STAGE – 4 : CASUAL VACANCY ROUND FOR ARCHITECTURE COURSE
The Architecture Casual vacancies, if any, will be offered in the following two rounds:
(1) Reserved, Rural, Kannada Medium & all Special categories : In this round, the casual
vacancies, if any, will be offered to all reserved, rural and Kannada medium candidates such as
SCR, SCK, SCG, STR, STK, STG, 1R, 1K, 1G, 2AR, 2AK, 2AG, 2BR, 2BK, 2BG, 3AR, 3AK,
3AG, 3BR, 3BK, 3BG, GMR, GMK and the special categories like Defence, Ex-Defence, Scouts
& Guides, Anglo-Indian, CAPF, NCC and Sports. The seats pertaining to GENERAL MERIT
category will not be offered in this round.

A NOTE ON REFUND AND FORFEITURE OF FEE
(1) If a candidate who has been allotted a seat in any discipline in the Admission Round and who
has reported to the college, wishes to surrenders / cancel the seat before the last date notified for
the commencement of the respective Casual Vacancy Round, the Executive Director, shall
deduct Rs. 5,000/- as processing fee and refund the remaining fee paid.
(2) If a candidate who has been allotted a seat in any discipline in the Admission Round and who
has reported to the college or not surrenders the seat after the completion of respective Casual
Vacancy Round, the Executive Director, shall forfeit the entire fee paid.
(3) The candidate who surrenders the seat allotted in the Casual Vacancy Round, the Executive
Director, shall forfeit the entire fee paid.
(4) No surrender or cancellation of seat shall be accepted, unless the candidate surrenders the
original admission order issued by the KEA and the original Bank Challan.
(5) If a candidate does not surrender/cancel/fails to join the allotted college even after the
completion of the Casual Vacancy Round the Executive Director, Karnataka Examinations
Authority shall forfeit the entire fee amount paid by the candidates.

LEGAL JURISDICTION
Any dispute that may arise in respect of the test or the later allotment of seats process and admission is subject to
the jurisdiction of the Hon’ble High court of Karnataka. The issue of admission order by the KEA shall enable the
candidate to join the concerned college, subject to the academic eligibility, etc., being approved by the
concerned University as per the Regulations.
