1 Getting Started
１-１About the kinds of work handled by Taskaji houseworkers
・Taskaji houseworkers can choose the kinds of work that they
want to do themselves.
・There are six kinds of work available: cleaning, laundry,
shopping, cooking, pet care, and child care with a guardian.
・You can select the kinds of work you will do on your profile
(choosing a number of them will make it easier to find work).
① Cleaning
Use the cleaning supplies provided in the client's home for
routine cleaning, bed making, and organizing (only in those
places designated by the client), and so forth.
② Laundry
Use the washers and dryers provided in the client's home for
routine washing, drying, folding, ironing, and so forth.
③ Shopping

Shop for daily needs at a supermarket within walking distance
of the client's house. (Primarily shopping for ingredients for
cooking.)
④ Cooking
Using the cooking supplies available in the client's house,
perform routine cooking for the household. The ingredients may
be already provided by the client, or else you may have to get
them at the client's request before you begin. Be sure to note the
range of items you can already cook in your profile. Work will go
smoothly if you listen to a customer's requests and make use of
recipes they provide.
⑤ Pet Care
Give pets their water and food. Taking pets for walks will not be
a part of your duties.
⑥ Child Care with Guardian
With a guardian present, help care for children. Most of the
time, you will be playing with children or reading to them.
Assisting with meals will not be a part of your duties.
1-2 About general insurance
If, in the course of a Taskaji houseworker's duties, something
should break or someone should get hurt, please notify Taskaji's
support center as quickly as possible. As you will be covered by
Taskaji's insurance plan, it will be possible to have any damages
paid back to the client.

(You will need to provide the client's name, the date and time of
service, what you were doing at the time, and pictures showing
what occurred.)
Compensation limits: ¥10,000,000 for an item, ¥100,000,000 for a
person
Warning: Damages incurred while performing tasks outside of
those specified by Taskaji will not be covered by insurance. If such
damages should occur, you will be required to provide
compensation yourself. Be careful to avoid doing tasks outside of
those specified by Taskaji.
1-3★Important★ Read carefully
・Be sure to be on time for your appointments. If you are late a
number of times, you will leave a bad impression on your clients,
and this will affect how you are reviewed.
・In the unlikely event that a situation should arise that prevents
you from making your appointment, be sure to cancel. If you do
not cancel before the time of your appointment, your ID will be
removed from Taskaji's office, and you will not be allowed to
register again.

2. What to do during visits
2-1During visits
What to bring: apron, socks
① Try to arrive 5 minutes early.
② When visiting a client's home, be sure to remove your coat and
any headwear you may have.
③ Do not enter clients' homes in bare feet. You must bring socks
and cover your feet at all times while in a client's home.
④ When you arrive, you should greet clients, saying "Taskaji no
(your name) desu. Honjitsu wa yoroshiku onegaishimasu." [I am
(your name), from Taskaji. I look forward to serving you today.]
⑤ You may change in the client's washroom. Please leave your
personal belongings to the side in the entryway.
⑥ Be sure to wear coats and clothes that you can leave folded up.
(We request that you not make use of any of your clients'
hangers.)

2-2 Before coming to work
① Understand the details of the requested work
While looking at the “Appendix: Understanding Checklist” , you
should confirm the work the client has requested.
Based on the length of time allotted, estimate and explain to your
client how much work you will be able to get done, and what parts
you may not be able to finish.
Be aware as you listen to a client whether or not a given request
falls under the category described in “3．About the kinds of work
done by Taskaji houseworkers”, subsection ”3-2．Work you are
not allowed to do”, below. Any damages incurred while doing work
that falls under this category are outside of our insurance, and

there is a possibility that you yourself as a Taskaji houseworker
will have to provide compensation.
② Confirm the floor plan
The client will provide information about their home, and you will
have to confirm the floor plan.
Be aware of the locations of any rooms that you are not allowed to
enter or closets/cupboards/etc. that you are not allowed to open.
③ Confirm the locations of cleaning supplies
You should confirm the locations of any cleaning supplies you will
need for that day's work. The minimum requirements are listed in
the “Appendix: Understanding Checklist”.
④ Confirm the client's particular rules
Be aware of the way clients conduct their own everyday lives.
For example:
The locations where remote controls for household items are
placed or the way towels are folded
The selection of eating utensils for a given menu, the
organization of seasonings, flavorings for miso soup

The way shirts are folded after being washed
It is crucial that you take care not to disrupt the client's lifestyle.
Be sure to ask any questions beforehand, so as not to have to ask
anything while working.
⑤ Confirm the client's preference regarding work directions
If, in the course of your duties, you should be unclear on
something, you should confirm in advance whether the client
would like you to ask for detailed directions, or whether they
would prefer to leave such matters to the judgment of the
houseworker.
2-3 When working
① Time spent working
Work for the agreed-upon time. If something is left unfinished,
do not work overtime, but rather report the details of what you
were not able to accomplish to the client.
② Things to be aware of while working
If, while working, a client presents you with tea or sweets, politely
refuse, saying "Thank you for your thoughtfulness. Unfortunately
I am contractually unable to accept your kindness..." or "I brought
my own, so there's no need to worry about me..."

When working in the summer, please bring your own drinks to
stay hydrated. (Or go and get them before returning to work.)
2-4 When work is finished
① Start preparing to finish up five minutes before your shift ends.
② In each room and every area where you worked, check once
again that everything was cleaned, and that you didn't
accidentally leave the power on.
③ Report what you were able to accomplish, what you were
unable to accomplish, and any money that you used (in the
event that you went shopping). If the client is not present, be
sure to leave a memo.
④ Change in the client's washroom to prepare for your return.
⑤ Be sure to say "Honjitsu wa arigatou gozaimashita" [thank you
for today] as you leave.
⑥ As you leave the entryway, take your coat and any headwear
you may have brought with you.
3. About the kinds of work done by Taskaji
houseworkers
3-1 What you are allowed to do
Being employed to clean in place of your client, you are allowed to
visit the client's home, and, according to the client's wishes, make
use of electricity, gas, water, and whatever cleaning chemicals or

tools the client may provide, using them and their contents as
needed in the course of your duties.
In short, you are to do whatever you can to respond to the wishes
of the client, and carry out routine cleaning, laundry, and
housework in the client's place.
The following will serve as examples.
Cleaning
Cleaning and maintaining sinks
Encrustation and slime, dust and hair, dirty mirror and so forth
Cleaning and maintaining toilets
Grime and bacteria, urine stains etc., the hard to see dust in back
and so forth
Bath
Clean all surfaces from the ceiling down to the floor, as well as
fixtures and drains.
Doing the dishes
Wash eating utensils and food storage containers in the
dishwasher, according to the customer's wishes.

You may receive specific instructions regarding the use of the
washing machine. (You will need to ask, in advance, how to use it,
whether to use detergent or not, and how much to do at once.)

Cleaning and maintaining the kitchen counter
Cleaning and maintaining windows, windowsills, curtains and blinds
Periodically, these become dirty, and if the client requests it, the
windows and the area around them will need to be cleaned once
every few months.
Cleaning and maintaining various rooms and spaces in the home
Entryway, hallway, and, depending on the home, stairs and
balconies. Toilets, sinks, kitchen. Living room, Japanese-style
room, bedroom, child's room, high places in a room: dealing with
the appliances and shelves, vacuuming the floors, wiping down
and mopping and so forth.
Cleaning and maintaining electronics, appliances, and miscellaneous
items
Periodic cleaning of the filters used in heaters and fans. Kitchen
garbage cans. Air conditioners, wall ventilation, ventilation above
the microwave oven, pots, stove, lampshades, bookshelves, TV
stand, every individual appliance and electronic device in the
house should be maintained according its instructions.
Garbage disposal
Take the garbage to a collection site or otherwise leave any trash
in garbage cans that have been filled in a designated location.

Bed making
For example, dry out futons, take them inside, replace sheets and
covers, collect bedding items that have been left out to dry into
sets.
Laundry
About doing laundry
Run the washing machine, dry, bring in laundry that has been
dried, fold, collect the laundry in a designated location, and so
forth to help out with the laundry. You should ask about special
instructions regarding how to dry or fold items if you need further
detailed instruction.
You should wash sneakers, mats, covers, and suits as well if the
customer desires.
Ironing
You may iron clothes and handkerchiefs as needed.
Sewing
Perform simple sewing operations for buttons or hooks that have
come off. Your duties only cover jobs that can be completed in a
few minutes.
Shopping

Shopping, taking items out for cleaning, and billing for your client
Go shopping to purchase ingredients for cooking or other daily
supplies as directed by the client
Take items to nearby cleaners as needed
※Before going shopping or taking anything to the cleaners, you
need to collect the money from your client in advance. (Do not pay
and bill the client later or cover any of the bill yourself.)
Cooking
Meal preparation and meal creation
You will carry out meal preparation and meal creation (home
cooking rather than true cooking), putting things together,
dishing them up, preserving food, washing utensils, and cleaning
up afterwards. Be aware of the client's preferences, including
likes and dislikes, allergies, portions, how strong or weak the
flavor should be, and so forth, and you will make use of the client's
kitchen and its appliances to prepare meals.
Other cooking related tasks you are allowed to do
① Decide on the menu and shop for ingredients
② Cook a large amount and preserve the rest for later
③ Perform pre-preparation of ingredients
④ If there is time, prepare and serve at the beginning of the meal

Pet care
You may feed pets or water plants.
Child care with guardian
Together with a guardian, you may help care for children. You
may play together with them, read books to them, or hold them in
your arms.
3-2 What you are not allowed to do
The service provided by Taskaji does not cover the following
services sometimes provided by similar workers.
Other kinds of full-time housecleaners or maids, overall house
organizers, handymen, jacks of all trades, movers
Any specialized service related to housework
Taskaji does not provide the following services. In the event that
reparations are required as a result of the performance of one of
these services, the client may be able to request compensation
from the Taskaji houseworker individually. Please take caution.
・The organization or management of valuables and personal data,
or responsibility for such items

4. Trouble prevention
① Requests to work overtime
The most frequently encountered problem is when a customer
requests that the houseworker work overtime to finish work that
was left undone.
You should estimate and inform the customer in advance how
much work you think you will be able to physically accomplish in
the allotted time. For anything that was left undone at the end of
the allotted time, explain why you were unable to finish. You may
not stay overtime to finish the work. You should be aware of the
amount of time that a given task usually takes you. Read through
this manual closely and be sure you understand its contents.
② Damage done to appliances or eating utensils by Taskaji
houseworkers
Be sure to ask any questions about special handling instructions
before working so that you don't end up damaging anything.
If damage occurs in spite of your best efforts, you should contact
Taskaji's support center.

The most frequently encountered problem is when a customer

③ Ask for clarification regarding the client's requests
If the client simply asks you to "please clean the rooms", there is a
possibility that miscommunications will arise between the client
and the Taskaji houseworker. Be sure to ask "where do you want
cleaned, and in what way?", clarifying the details of the request
before you begin work.
If the client feels that they paid a good deal of money for service
but it wasn't done as they wanted, this can cause trouble.
④ The client requests that you take care of their valuables
So that the client doesn't end up finding that something
important is missing, ask the client to take care of their valuables
before you work. In the event that you come across valuables
while working, you must report this to the client and request that
they take care of them.

To ensure that you don't lose anything, do not keep any
accessories that will get in the way of your work on your person
while performing your duties.
So that you don't have to tell a client "I left something behind", be
sure to take proper care of your valuables. If you use a client's
money for any purpose, be sure to keep the receipt as proof, and
present it to the client.
⑥ How to tell Taskaji if the client files a claim
It is best to tell the client "I will tell Taskaji right away. We will
be sure to respond."
In the event of a claim, you should give the following information
to Taskaji:

②What they found unsatisfactory
③What kind of work they requested
④What they want done about the situation

① Be sure to obtain permission from the client to use the air

6. The fundamentals of working for Taskaji
Taskaji's motto is expressed in 7 basic initials.
【A】【SU】【HA】【SHI】【A】【WA】【SE】
These represent the 7 fundamental rules for our workers.
Just remember, "Asu wa shiawase." [Tomorrow will be happy.]
“A” Be forthright in your "aisatsu" [greetings].
“SU” Smile. Present a cheerful face.
“HA” Hai, your response. Furthermore, hai, as in "haikei" [Dear
Sir/Madam]. In other words, show respect.
“SHI” Shisei [posture]. It is very important to carry yourself well.
Keep your back straight and your manner lively.
“A” Arigatou, expressing thanks.
“WA” Wadai [conversation]. You won't get anywhere by being
uncommunicative.
“SE” Seiketsu [clean], seiri [orderly], seiton [tidy]. In
housekeeping, these are everything.
These things are important, so please remember the phrase "Asu
wa shiawase".

7. The fundamentals of your work ＜Cleaning＞
Here you will find the details and methods for a given assignment,
determining the level of dirtiness, and how much time to allot.
【Living room】
You will make use of the following tools for cleaning.
Required: cloth, vacuum
Useful if available: duster, disposable cloth mop (with
disposable pads)
You will pick up anything left on the floor.
・Take care of dust found on the ceiling, light fixtures, appliances,
doors, and so forth using a duster.

Dust tends to collect on the wall around the air conditioner, so
be sure to dust it well.
(If no duster is provided, wipe with a dry cloth.)
・When possible, wipe appliances and doors with a wet cloth.
Be especially careful when you are wiping areas that collect
fingerprints easily. If you only use water to wipe these areas, most
of the marks may not be removed. It is best to have a set order for
cleaning any light fixtures or switches that may be cleaned using
a wet cloth, and follow that while cleaning.
Vacuum the floor.
After you use the vacuum, you should wipe the floor with a wet
cloth, or use a mop.
It can be quite difficult to clean large living room floors by hand,
so be sure to make use of the cleaners and tools (mops and such)
provided by the client. There are mops that use dry sheets, mops
that use wet sheets, and mops that use cloths.
Please make use of those tools provided by the client.

There are three things a professional should be careful about
when cleaning a living room.
First, the doorknobs.
Second, the baseboards.
Third, the light switches.
Quite often, the people living in a house will forget to pay
attention to these areas, even if they collect a good deal of dust or
become dirty. Clean these areas well to ensure a good response
from clients.
Also, the area around door knobs often gets dirty, so clean that as
well.

Required: toothbrush, counter cleaning fluid, sponge for
counters, sponge for cleaning stainless steel, cloth.

1. Apply and leave: how to loosen grime
The grime embedded in gas stoves is generally the remnants of
old oil.
In order to remove it effectively, apply counter cleaning fluid and
let it sit to loosen it up.
If you leave it alone for a while, it will be easy to remove without a
good deal of effort.
2. Take it off: how to remove accumulated grime
For layers of accumulated grime that have been heated and made
even tougher to get rid of over time, you need to be careful not to
damage the stove as you work on removing them. Use an old card
to scrape them off. The cleaning fluids will penetrate more deeply

Cover the whole bathroom in hot or cold water.
On days when you have sufficient time, you should begin by
cleaning the ceilings, vents, and lights.
Especially with the ceiling, even if it doesn't appear dirty, there
may be mold present. Wipe using a damp cloth that has been fully
wrung out.
Higher locations, such as ceilings, vents, and lights, should be
cleaned before anything else so as to prevent dust or anything else
from spreading.
Using facial tissues, remove any hair or trash stuck in drain openings.
Use a large sponge covered in bathroom cleaner (or sodium
bicarbonate solution) to wash the whole room.
You should wash metal fixtures and mirrors together.
Wash the whole room using hot or cold water.

For hard-to-reach areas like the backs of taps, bring out about
30cm of stocking, and move it horizontally across to polish those
tougher spots with ease.
How to remove grime from bathroom mirrors
Using a citric acid spray, wipe the entire surface, and leave it
covered in the spray for 15 minutes.
Use a toothbrush to attack tougher spots.
Finally, wash the surface with water, using a soft cloth or a
microfiber cloth.

Useful if available: tooth powder, melamine sponge
Melamine sponge
A melamine sponge is a sponge made from melamine resin. Rub
it against a surface, together with water, and you can lift any
substances that have adhered to it. It really feels a lot like an
eraser. Its ability to polish surfaces so softly and finely is amazing,
particularly when those surfaces are enamel or stainless steel
taps, which are similar. It is also extremely effective at removing
the brown incrustation left by hot water.

Remove any dirt or hair from the faucet with a tissue. Lift the cap
from the drain, and do the same.
Wipe the mirror and sink surface with a damp cloth (possibly a

While running water, clean the drain cap with a toothbrush.
Any removable parts and the rim of the basin, along with the
drain, should be cleaned with a toothbrush. (Using a citric acid
spray will make this easier.)
Using a damp cloth (possibly a microfiber cloth), wipe away any
remaining substances from the mirror, the tap, and the inside of
the basin.
If there are any substances that your cloth (or microfiber cloth)
cannot remove, use a dampened melamine sponge.
Grime can build up quite easily on the curved parts of the basin.
Be sure to clean them thoroughly.

In general, you should clean the room from top to bottom. Start by
cleaning the vent with a vacuum, and then wipe it with a dry
cloth.
If you are able to remove the cover from the vent, you should wash
it.
Remove the dust around the shelves and toilet as well as the
plumbing with a cloth (or a dry disposable cloth meant for floors).
Dust collects easily around the vent on the door, so be sure to take
care of that as well.

Reference: Using sodium bicarbonate solution
Sodium bicarbonate solution is effective in removing grease. If the
customer requests it, you should use it in place of other cleaning
solutions.
It is very effective on kitchen grease.
[Ingredients]
Water…100ml
Sodium bicarbonate…1 teaspoon
[Preparation]
You simply have to dissolve the sodium bicarbonate (1 teaspoon)
into warm water (100ml).
Using this solution, you can get rid of grease around the kitchen
or grime left on the sink simply by wiping it away for a fresh
shine.

You can also spray the garbage can or refrigerator with sodium

[How to use]
Cleaning the kitchen drain
Take off the cover, and pour sodium bicarbonate powder liberally
onto the drain.
Spray the cover and the garbage catch with sodium bicarbonate
solution, and clean off any substances present with a toothbrush.
When it's clean all over, you're done.
Cleaning the bathroom drain
Pour sodium bicarbonate on any parts you have removed, and
using a sponge, scrub the inside, the outside, and the drain catch.
Wash with water, and you're done.
Cleaning the gas stove
Remove the burner rings, trivets, and the vent cover and apply
sodium bicarbonate solution.
You will need to spray larger parts with the solution.

Lift stains from the top plate using plastic wrap covered in sodium
bicarbonate solution.
If the grime is particularly difficult, take a paper towel with

for a little while. Then roll up some plastic wrap and move it

[Preparation]
Dissolve the citric acid (1/2 teaspoon) into water (100ml).
To remove particularly hard white incrustation, you should use a
more potent citric acid solution if possible.

You can use citric acid spray and wipe to clean cutting boards,
triangular bacterial filters, tables, and floors.
You will make a heated citric acid solution.
When creating the solution, use water heated to between 40 and
50 degrees centigrade. This alone will make it a lot easier to
remove any substances.
[How to Use]
Cleaning the toilet
Citric acid solution will be quite effective in removing incrustation
and other substances from toilets.
Cleaning the mirrors
Spray the area with citric acid solution, then cover it from top to
bottom in plastic wrap, and leave it as is for half a day.
Wash it with a damp cloth, then wipe it with a dry cloth to finish.
Cleaning small parts of bathtubs
Spray containers for cleaners and small parts of the bathtub with
citric acid solution, and lift any grime with a sponge.
When you've wiped everything away, you're done.
