Overview
Market Brew™ is a predictive platform for organic search rankings. It is designed for both novice and
experienced users. It can simulate any competitive environment with great precision, exposing search
ranking distances and predicting the winners and losers within your competitive environment.
How to Get Started
When you first login to Market Brew, you will be at your DEFAULT Analysis Group screen. You can have
multiple Analysis Groups, simulating different competitive environments.
Define Traffic
The first thing you want to do for an Analysis Group is to define the total possible traffic for this
competitive environment. Click on Define Traffic and add all possible keywords that this group will be
competing for.
Keywords can be any length – they represent what users would be entering on a search engine like
Google. Market Brew will pull in the estimated traffic as reported directly from major search engines.

4
Unless you are trying to simulate a specific scenario, it is usually important that you define all possible
keywords / queries that represent 100% of your total potential organic traffic.
Add Websites
Next, add the competitive sub-domains that will be modeled in this Analysis Group. You do NOT have to
add every competitive website. Only a representative sample of the websites that are mostly above your
target website should be needed for an accurate model. While Market Brew can compare as many
websites as you need, you will find that it is much more cost efficient to analyze a smaller statistical
sample, and very little gain in precision occurs beyond a specific amount of inputted data.
Once you have setup your traffic and websites, your Analysis Group will look like the above screenshot.

Managing Your Analysis Groups
It is important to make sure that all of your websites have some sort of re-crawl strategy setup.
How to setup scheduled Re-Crawls
To setup a re-crawl schedule, simply click on show all actions and then click Manage Scheduled Crawls.
Typically the target website (the one that you are optimizing) should be re-crawling at a slightly faster
rate than the competitive websites.
How to setup Market Brew Rules™
Once you have optimized something, Market Brew allows you to “set it and forget it” using a rulesbased engine.
Whenever a website is re-crawled, each rule that was defined for that website is evaluated. If the rule
condition is TRUE, then an email alert is sent instantly.
Market Brew makes it very easy to create simple rules. When logged in, simply click on any
to the item you wish to create a rule with.

6
Then, you simply follow Market Brew Rules Wizard. Select your condition, (optionally) enter a value,
name the rule, and you're done! Market Brew Rules are fired off only after a Website has been recrawled.
Prediction Model
Inside Market Brew is a search engine that is modeled off of over a decade of regression testing and
curve-fitting. The model can be customized, however, with your own data. This allows each Analysis
Group to be more precisely fit to your local environment.
While it is not required that you dive into the prediction model, it is beneficial to understand how it
works, so you can better anticipate answers to optimization problems that will arise.
To see the prediction model data, click on Simulate a Search on the Analysis Group screen:
You will see a screen, which looks very familiar. It’s a search engine emulator, based on the prediction
model that is currently loaded.

7
Typing in any keyword, you can see how that model behaves. You can hover over the Query Score to see
the sub-score breakdown:
…or click on one of the metrics like Market Focus, Net Total Link Flow, or Market Brew Score.
Prediction Data
Once all of your traffic-producing keywords and websites have been put into the Analysis Group, you
will receive 3 major summary screens for each website:

8
1) Algorithms – will reveal how the Market Brew search engine model applied its algorithms to
each website, webpage, and link.
2) Simulations – Market Brew runs millions of “what-if” simulations for all websites in the defined
Analysis Group, and can determine which optimizations would give the highest increase in clickthrough rate for the least amount of effort. An Optimization Score is presented which can be
used to determine the highest ROI moves.
3) Link Flow – one of the major components of a search ranking is the link graph component, or
how other websites are linking to the target website, and websites around the target website.
The Link Flow screen reveals this link graph, where the Link Flow™ goes once it arrives at the
target website.
Algorithms
Click on the “A” next to the website in the Analysis Group:
You can see the summary of what your algorithmic penalties have done to your bottom line.

11
A view of the website’s internal Link Flow Distribution will be presented, along with current/actual
values vs. targeted keywords.
This screen will show you which webpages, structurally, should be positioned in the link graph of that
website. Typical one is shown above. The keyword lawyer is way more competitive than most of the
keywords in the Analysis Group. Therefore, it stands to reason that one webpage in the website should
have a commensurate amount of Link Flow Distribution as well.
Flat Distributions – a Common Mistake
From roughly 2007 to present, it has been very customary to create mega menus that contain links to
almost every page in the website. Menus with 40+ items are not uncommon today. However, search
engines have maintained their algorithm that similar webpages are measured against each other via the
link graph calculation.
The problem? With a navigation design like this, the Link Flow Distribution gets very flat (lower value).
When this happens, search engines will think the privacy policy page is just as important as the product
page. Since the website will NEVER rank for privacy policy, it has effectively thrown away 50% of the
Link Flow for the product page.

Reproduction and/or distribution is strictly prohibited without the written consent of MarketBrew.com.
12
Therefore, it is very smart to ensure as much of a 1:1 relationship between the keywords you are
targeting, and the webpages that exist in the website. The Link Flow Distribution screen shows you how.
As a rough estimate, try to maintain 4-7 top pages (significantly more Link Flow % than the rest) until
you are ranking well for those. Then you can start adding sub-categories, once you have developed
enough incoming Link Flow to the website (called the website’s “Gross Total Link Flow”).

13
Historical Reporting
Market Brew maintains a historical “tick chart” view of every “iteration”, or re-crawl, of your Analysis
Group. It therefore represents a powerful tool to regression test, debug changes, and predict future
behavior on a search engine.
Reach Share
Once your Analysis Group has been calculated, each website will receive a specific amount of reach
estimate from the total possible reach estimate.
You can click on the graph next to Reach Share to reveal a tick chart of past Reach Shares for that
website. Click on additional websites to compare.
You can also view the movement in rankings at a more granular level by clicking through to see the
types of keywords that are being ranked.

14
Traffic-Producing Keyword
Market Brew also keeps historical data on the traffic-producing keyword that you are using to model the
Analysis Group with. Click on the keyword to reveal the historical rankings:
You will see a tick chart for all websites within the Analysis Group:

Prediction Data Screens
Market Brew is broken down into two critical areas:
•
•
On-Page Analysis
o Market Brew provides detailed information about a particular subdomain and the
immediate neighboring Websites. It is essentially an “on-demand” personal Search
Engine. You can gain complete insight into how any Search Engine will view a particular
Webpage and/or Link. It is crucial that On-Page optimization happen before spending
any marketing dollars on Off-Page optimization. This is because On-Page factors control
the efficiency of the Off-Page optimization.
Off-Page Analysis
o Market Brew provides detailed information about the structure of the Internet. If you
need to find a particular Website’s Incoming Links (Backlinks), or need to find the best
sources to obtain a particular Incoming Link, Off-Page optimization will help you do that.
On-Page Analysis
Your goal should be to master the primary screens in the On-Page Analysis area of Market Brew and
how to navigate between them to quickly and efficiently find and correct problems uncovered by
Market Brew:
1. Search Listing – Every Website on the Internet has one. This view is accessed by entering a URL
into the Search Bar at the top of any of the above screens. This view resembles the
conventional Search Engine Results Pages (SERPs), which allow you to quickly search for a
particular set of keywords. The results listings have links into the corresponding Webpage
Scoresheets and Scorecards of each Webpage displayed.

17
2. Webpage Scoresheet – Every Webpage on the Internet has one. Shows on-page penalties,
errors, and warnings, as well as various critical pieces of data like Market Focus(TM), Link
Loss(TM), and much more.
3. Webpage Snapshot – Every Webpage on the Internet has one. Similar to Google’s “cached”
view, the Webpage Snapshot also allows Market Brew to overlay various information found
throughout Market Brew interface. For example, when viewing Dangling Links on the Link
Listing page, you can also get a Snapshot View of these Links by clicking the Snapshot View icon.
4. Webpage Scorecard – Every Webpage on the Internet has one. Shows on-page and off-page
penalties, errors, and warnings, and details out the exact formulas that were used to determine
that Webpage’s Market Brew Score(TM).
5. Market Focus Details – Every Webpage on the Internet has one. Shows how the Search Engine
views the content on that Webpage. It is a complete breakdown off contributing factors that
caused the Search Engine to determine what that Webpage is about.
6. Link Listings – These exist on both the Webpage and Website level. Link listings are like Search
Results, but each result is a Link, with all information regarding that Link summarized in a
dropdown list.
7. Link Scorecards – Every Link on the Internet has one. Shows a detailed breakdown of how the
Search Engine determined the Link Flow(TM) for that particular Link, in context with all of the
other Links on and around that Webpage.
8. Page Listings – These exist on both the Webpage and Website level. Page listings are like Search
Results, but they show specific categories of information.
9. Website Dashboard – Each sub-domain on the Internet has one. This is the “top level” of the
screens presented here for a given Website. All aggregate information regarding a Website is
presented here.

Adding Custom Market Brew Rules
You don't have to just use Market Brew Rules Wizard. You can define your own customized
equations/conditions to your own liking.
On the Edit Rules screen, you can select any available piece of information in Market Brew to create
simplest or the most complex rule you can imagine.
Below are some simple examples of what you can do with Market Brew Rules. Using any of the
operators above, you can combine any piece of data for a Website, and come up with a new and
customized alert system. The combinations are endless — only your imagination holds you back.
•
Check to see whether or not a Website has any Broken Links:
numBrokenLinks > 0
•
Check to see whether or not a specific Webpage has issues loading on the Web Server. You may
be having issues with your Hosting Provider and want to know if the Webpage load times are
sufficient enough for your user experience / SLA:
retrieveTimeMillis > 5000
•
Check to see whether or not a Webpage's Market Brew Score has fallen below 85.5%. Let's
assume that a particular Webpage has been optimized and now has a Market Brew Score of
85.5%. You want to know if something changes which cause the Webpage to have more
penalties and a lower score:
seoengScore < 85.5
•
Check to see whether or not a Webpage's Market Focus is no longer "search engine
optimization". This would let you know when an edit on a Webpage accidently changes your
Market Focus(TM), thus causing your target keywords to drop in ranking:

Off-Page Analysis
The Off-Page Analysis screens are very simple compared to the On-Page Analysis screens. There are 3
primary screens:
1. Link Finder – This view is accessed by entering one or more keywords into the Off-Page Search
Bar. This view displays the most important sources of Links for the given keywords. One of the
most important metrics, “Incremental Link Flow Share”, can be used to anticipate how much
Link Flow would flow through a new Link on that particular Webpage.
2. Link Explorer –This view is accessed by entering a URL into the Off-Page Search Bar. This view
displays the most important and relevant Incoming Links that are known for this URL. You can
click on the green dropdown arrows to view important statistics for each Link, as well as filter on
any Link characteristic. In addition, you can track any of these Links by checking the checkbox
next to the link and clicking on Track Links at the top of that column. These Links will be tracked
to for any future changes, good or bad.

22
3. Link Tracker – Any Links that you have chosen to track on the Link Explorer will show up on your
Link Tracker screen, accessible from your Customer Home.
On this screen, you can compare current vs. previous versions of each Link. The most changed
Links will always appear at the top of your list – marked by the percentage change in value.
4. Neighborhood Explorer – This view shows the list of Link Neighborhoods and their top Market
Focuses. You can access this view by clicking on the “[switch]” link next to the current Link
Neighborhood. When you click on a Neighborhood, you will also see a list of the top Market

http://www.blooberry.com/indexdot/html/topics/urlencoding.htm.
Additional Callback URL
Some of the requests initiate processes that do not finish immediately, such as a Crawl, Site Monitor, or
On-Demand Crawl, and therefore include a “callback” parameter. This parameter allows you to include
a callback URL, in addition to your Default Callback URL in your Customer Home. If you do not specify a
callback parameter, your Default Callback URL defined in your Customer Home will be used, if set. Note:
Market Brew will NOT attempt to retry calling this URL in the event of a failure.
