An ancient foundry where incandescent iron was forged by expert hands. Perhaps the
very same hands that worked the vines in the hills of Valdobbiadene. Perhaps the same
thoughts flew among the sparks and between the vines, but burning with a different
passion. This and much more we can imagine of the life of Bartolomeo Bortolomiol. We
know he harvested the grapes for his wine and that he made nails in his foundry. And it is
these nails that gave him and his descendants the nickname Ciodet, the local dialect for
the Italian word chiodo, nail. Over the centuries the hard and hard-wearing nails have given
way to the light and ephemeral pleasure of these hillside sparkling wines of undisputed
quality. The nail remains on the label to remind us of the family’s long, passionate heritage.
Of their determination, as hard as nails, to produce the best possible wine.
