JIM MORA
HEAD COACH
THIRD SEASON
23-10 RECORD
On December 10, 2011, former Atlanta Falcons and Seattle Seahawks head coach Jim Mora was named UCLA’s
17th head coach in school history.
In year two, Mora led the Bruins to the eighth 10-win season in school history, tying the school mark for wins in
a season. His total of 19 wins during his first two seasons at the helm is the most ever by a UCLA head coach in
their initial couple of seasons on the job. The team captured its 10th win by besting Virginia Tech in the Hyundai
Sun Bowl. UCLA remained in the Associated Press rankings throughout the full 2013 season for the first time
since 1998. Linebacker Anthony Barr was selected as a first-team All-America and as the school’s first winner of
the Lott IMPACT Trophy.A school record 18 true freshmen saw action during the season and seven true freshmen
position players started in a game to match that school record. Five Bruins, the most by the program since 2002,
were selected in the NFL Draft, headed by Barr’s pick at No. 9 overall by the Minnesota Vikings.
In his first year, Mora guided the Bruins to the 2012 South Division Championship of the Pac-12 Conference and
matched the school-record for wins by a first-year coach, with nine. The Bruins, who played in the Holiday Bowl,
set numerous offensive records during the course of the 2012 season, including establishing a new school rushing
leader, in Johnathan Franklin, and several passing marks achieved by Brett Hundley. On defense, Barr emerged
as one of the most dynamic performers in the country in his first season as a linebacker and led the nation in
sacks for a good portion of the year. Eric Kendricks led the conference in tackles, ranking 11th in the country.
Four players were selected in the 2013 NFL Draft, including defensive end Datone Jones in the first round by the
Green Bay Packers.
Mora, a former NFC Coach of the Year, came to UCLA after spending part of 2010 and most of 2011 as an analyst
and contributor for the NFL Network and the NFL on FOX. He brought 25 years of NFL coaching acumen with
him to UCLA, including four years of NFL head coaching experience while at the helm of the Atlanta Falcons
(2004-06) and the Seattle Seahawks (2009).
Mora took over for Mike Holmgren as head coach of the Seattle Seahawks in 2009. He had served as assistant
head coach and defensive backs coach for Seattle in 2007 and 2008. The Seahawks went 10-6 and finished first
in the NFC West in the 2007 season and won the Wild Card game. In his initial season as the head coach of the
Falcons in 2004, Mora guided the team to an 11-5 record, becoming just the eighth rookie head coach in NFL
history to win 11 games and the 11th to bring home a Division title. Atlanta captured the NFC South title and
earned an appearance in the NFC Championship game for only the second time in franchise history. Mora was
selected as the NFC Coach of the Year.
The Falcon’s defense improved from a league ranking of 32nd in 2003 to No. 14 overall the next season, fueled
by a league-leading and franchise record 48 quarterback sacks. Atlanta topped the NFL in rushing in all three of
coach Mora’s seasons as head coach. In 2006, Michael Vick became the first quarterback in NFL history to rush
for at least 1,000 yards.
Mora had joined the Falcons from the San Francisco 49ers where he spent seven seasons, from 1997-2003,
including the last five as the defensive coordinator. In his first year, the 49ers finished No. 1 in the NFL in total
defense, No. 2 in pass defense (with 25 interceptions), takeaways (41) and run defense, as well as No. 3 in the
League in sacks (with 54). The 1998 squad tied for No. 1 in the NFC, and No. 4 in the NFL, with 21 interceptions.
The 1997 team advanced to the NFC Championship Game, while the 1998 and 2002 squads captured Wild Card
Game wins.
Mora worked the previous five seasons (1992-1996) on the staff of his dad, Jim E. Mora, as the secondary coach
with the New Orleans Saints. His defensive expertise began to take shape and the Saints boasted the No. 1 pass
defense in the NFL during his first two years. In 1985, Mora broke into the NFL coaching ranks with the San Diego
Chargers under head coach Don Coryell. He spent seven seasons with the Chargers, advancing from the league's
first quality control coach position to defensive backs coach.
Mora began his coaching career in 1984 at the University of Washington. He joined the staff of Don James in the
role of defensive assistant following a four-year playing career as a defensive back for the Huskies. While at UW,
Mora had the opportunity to be a part of two Rose Bowl teams (1981-loss to Michigan and 1982-win over Iowa)
as a player, in addition to helping the Huskies land a berth in the 1985 Orange Bowl (win over Oklahoma) as a
graduate assistant. During his five seasons in the Husky program, Washington compiled a 48-12 record, ranked
among the nation’s top 10 teams on three occasions, and did not finish lower than second in the Pac-10 standings.
NFL Pro Bowlers who have played under coach Mora include -- Julian Peterson, LB Seattle and 49ers; Marcus
Trufant, DB Seattle; Allen Rossum, DB Atlanta; Patrick Kerney, DL Atlanta; Roderick Coleman, DL Atlanta; Keith
Brooking, LB Atlanta; DeAngelo Hall, DB Atlanta; Michael Vick, QB Atlanta; Alge Crumpler, TE Atlanta; Warrick
Dunn, RB Atlanta; Bryant Young, DL 49ers; Lance Schulters, DB 49ers; Merton Hanks, DB 49ers; Eric Allen, DB
Saints; Tyrone Hughes, DB Saints; Gill Byrd, DB San Diego.

VS. CAL — UCLA leads the series 51-32-1 overall. The teams have split the last four meetings with each winning on
their home fields. UCLA owns a 22-20 edge in games played at Cal. The Bruins’ last win in Berkeley was a 28-16
victory in the 1998 season. Then No. 2-ranked UCLA started slow in that game, fumbling on its first two possessions, before righting the ship and taking a 20-9 lead at the half. Cal closed to 20-16 at the end of the third quarter,
but could not take the lead thanks to a UCLA goal line stand. A Bruin touchdown on a halfback option pass at
the start of the fourth quarter made the score 28-16. Cal never crossed midfield again and the Bruins improved to
6-0 on the season. It was the UCLA’s 16th straight win at the time. UCLA won 18 straight meetings in the series
against the Golden Bears dating from 1972 to 1989.

Hundley scored a touchdown after taking his first snap as a college player at Rice in 2012. His 372 passing yards against Oregon
State in 2012 marked the third straight game above the 300-yard mark, a new school record. It was the second-highest total
in a single game by a UCLA freshman (Maddox, 409 vs. USC, 1990).
Hundley graduated early from Chandler HS in Chandler, AZ and joined the Bruins in Winter Quarter 2011(January). He took
part in spring practice at UCLA, but was limited early in the 2011 fall camp due to a summer injury. Hundley did not see
action in the 2011 season. He participated in a second spring practice in 2012 and won the starting job in pre-season camp.

Radio. This will be the eighth year for the Bruins
games to be aired on AM 570 Fox Sports LA in
Southern California. The broadcasts are produced
by IMG, UCLA’s corporate and media-rights

hour network) and a post-game show.
Hall of Fame broadcaster Chris Roberts, a four-time
Golden Mike Award winner, has been the voice
of the Bruins for over 20 years (this is year 23).
Former Bruin quarterback Matt Stevens (‘83-86)
is set to begin his 17th year on the broadcast team
and his 13th as the analyst in the booth. Former
Bruin quarterback Wayne Cook (‘91-94) is in his
12th season as sideline reporter.
AM 570 Fox Sports LA also provides ancillary
programming, including head coach and player
interviews during game weeks.
UCLA IMG Sports Network games are available
nationally through an agreement with Sirius XM
Satellite Radio, the Official Satellite Radio Partner
of UCLA Athletics.

In 2012, he started all 14 games in 2012. He led the Pac-12 in tackles with an average
of 10.64, a mark which ranked 11th in the nation. He was the first Bruin to lead the
conference in tackles since Spencer Havner in 2004. During 2012, Kendricks returned
two fumbles for scores (23 yards Houston/40 at Washington St.), blocked a punt (USC)
and made his first career interception (USC). His total of 150 tackles was the most by a
Bruin player since Jerry Robinson registered a school-record 161 stops in 1978. He had
a best of 17 tackles at Arizona State. He was named Pac-12 Player of the Week after the
USC and Arizona wins.

QUARTERBACK— Redshirt soph JERRY NEUHEISEL (#11) came off the bench after a
first-quarter injury to starter Brett Hundley in Texas. Neuheisel threw a pair of scoring
passes and directed three scoring drives in the second half to rally the Bruins from a 10-3
halftime deficit. The second of Neuheisel’s scoring passes was the game-winner, a 33-yard
toss to Jordan Payton with 3:00 remaining in the contest. Neuheisel’s first touchdown
pass of his career, a three-yarder to Nate Iese, came on the initial drive of the second
half and evened the score at 10-all. He also piloted the Bruins on a 16-play, 71-yard field
goal drive which had put UCLA up 13-10 early in the fourth quarter.
Neuheisel has been the holder on placekicks the past two seasons. He saw action at quarterback last season against Nevada (two drives), New Mexico State (three drives, two
for scores) and at Utah (for one series).

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 6 • ROSE BOWL • PASADENA, CALIF.
ATTENDANCE: 72,098 • TV: PAC-12 NETWORKS
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Bre Hundley was all smiles, mostly because of his defense.
Seventh-ranked UCLA scored three defensive touchdowns in the second quarter Saturday,
and Hundley led them on a cri cal second-half scoring drive as the Bruins escaped Virginia
28-20 in the opener for both teams.
PASADENA, Calif. – Bre Hundley passed for 396 yards and three touchdowns, Paul
Perkins rushed for two scores and No. 11 UCLA survived a fourth-quarter scare for a 42-35
victory over Memphis on Saturday night.
“Some mes a game like this might be good to get our team understanding that every game
we have to come with it,” the quarterback said. “We have to understand what we train for
and we have to do it. ... We have a lot of stuff to work on.”
Hundley, widely regarded as one of the na on’s top quarterbacks, was harassed all day
by Virginia’s pressure defense, which sacked him five mes, and made the biggest play of
the day for UCLA with his feet. It came on a 6-yard touchdown run late in the third quarter
when safety Quin Blanding met him around the 3 yard-line, and Hundley overpowered
him.
Thomas Duarte caught two TD passes and linebacker Myles Jack rushed for his first score
of the season for the Bruins (2-0), who barely held off the underdog Tigers (1-1) despite
540 yards of total offense.
Memphis safety Fritz E enne returned an intercep on 17 yards for the tying score with
13:44 to play moments a er Doroland Dorceus’ 40-yard TD run, stunning a Rose Bowl
crowd expec ng an easy win.
But Duarte caught a 33-yard TD pass with 10:52 le , and the Bruins’ defense made three
late stops to secure their fourth straight win in a home opener.
The Bruins have no such problem behind center, and when he needed to, Hundley showed
why. UCLA led just 21-17 and had not scored an offensive touchdown when it took over at
its 34 late in the third quarter.
Kenneth Walker III caught an early 62-yard TD pass as the Bruins’ offense bounced back
from a weak effort in their closer-than-expected 28-20 victory at Virginia last week, which
included just one offensive touchdown.
Hundley completed passes of 15 yards to Eldridge Massington and 25 yards to Thomas
Duarte on the 66-yard march, and capped it with the run up the middle, bulling over safety
Blanding for the TD. That made it 28-17, and all the momentum brought by Johns’ play
dissipated.
The Bruins had li le trouble scoring at the Rose Bowl, but their defense struggled against
the Memphis offense led by Lynch, racking up 469 yards.
