SACRAMENT OF CONFIRMATION will take place Thursday, October 16, 2014 at 4:30
p.m. at St. John’s, Shillington for
all the 8th graders from St. Benedict, St. Anthony’s and St. John’s. Rehearsal is scheduled
for Sunday, October 12 at 1:00 p.m. at St. John’s. Bishop
Barres will preside. This is a new Diocesan-wide procedure in regard to Confirmation, namely that parishes are
grouped together and Confirmation is celebrated each year
for the 8th graders. Next Fall 2015, Confirmation will be
at St. Benedict’s for all three parishes.
SPIRIT 2014—CHALLENGING MEN TO GROW IN
FAITH. A Diocesan Men’s Conference will be held on
Saturday, November 15, 2014 from 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. at
De Sales University. The day will include keynote addresses, exhibits and a vigil Mass with Bishop Barres.
Continental breakfast and lunch is included. Registration
fee is $30 ($20 early bird before 9/30) and $10 for high
school/college students. For more info or to register online
please visit www.cmfda.org or call 610-289-8900.
YOUTH GROUP KICK-OFF—All teens grades 8-12 are
welcome to bring a friend to a “Nite Out”. The event will
be outside at our parish picnic ground from 7:00-9:00 p.m.
on Saturday, October 25. There will be pumpkin fun,
food, fear factor, hayride, a bonfire and creepy stories.
Dress warm like you’re going to a football game. Friends
are welcome. Sign up at the display in the gathering space.
TEEN SERVICE PROJECT—Senior high teens are inviting all 8th graders and students preparing for Confirmation, to join them at Precious Blood Convent on Saturday, October 11 to help the sisters with small jobs at their
Retreat Center. Some jobs will be inside and others on the
grounds of the convent. Father Phil and a group of parish
youth leaders will drive. We will depart from St. Benedict’s parking lot Saturday, October 11 at 8:30 a.m. This is
a great way to prepare for Confirmation.
YOUNG ADULTS in their 20’s & 30’s are invited to a
special gathering at the WORKS called Theology on Tap.
See the flyer on our front door Bulletin Board. This is an
open series of talks and fellowship for young adults of
Berks County. Theology on Tap will be held every Monday in October. On Mondays, October 13 & 20 St. Benedict’s will organize a carpool to the event. Simply meet in
front of church by 6:30 p.m. and we will head out together. (Father Phil will be the speaker on October 20.)
All those attending are encouraged to contact parishioner
Gene Raser at eraser@paulrisk.com who will help organize the carpool.
NEW ALTAR SERVERS—Father
Phil is looking for the few, the strong,
the proud, students, grades 5-12, who
are willing to serve at the altar of God.
Please consider being an altar server
for at least one year. Altar servers typically serve one Sunday per month, and
weddings and funerals as needed. To register, please sign
the list at the front door of the church. Installation of new
servers will take place on Sunday, October 19 at the 9:30
