MERIT CUM MEANS
SCHOLARSHIP(MCMS)
Insight of MCMS – General Information
Objective
To provide financial assistance to the poor and meritorious
students belonging to minority communities to enable them
to pursue professional and technical courses
Scope
These scholarships are available for studies in India only and
will be awarded through an Agency designated by the State
Government / UT Administration for this purpose
COMMON FEATURES
• 30% of scholarships are earmarked for girl students
• Students should have secured not less than 50% marks in the
previous final examination
• Atmost 2 students from a family
• Scholarship allocation to States/UTs on the basis of population of
minorities
• The scheme is implemented through the State Govt./UT
Administration
• Can not avail scholarship/stipend from other source
Number of Scholarship
• Every year more than 60000 scholarships will be distributed
among the students of minority communities throughout the
country
• Based on the state-wise population of these communities, the
distribution of scholarship will be as under:

Important Notice
• Filling up of Aadhaar Number in the application form for
Scholarship (Fresh and Renewal cases) is Optional
• The Bank Account details filled in the application should be the
account of the student and must be linked with the Aadhar
Number.
• Verify bank account details (A/c No, IFSC code & bank address)
of Institution & Students. Ensure student account is major and live
• For Fresh Application, Consider only +2/UG mark
• Accept only Online Application. No manual application will be
entertained
Important Notice
• Accept Income Certificate from Revenue Authority only
• Reject Application having income above 2.5 lakhs. Accept
variations in the Income Certificate if Income below 2.5 lakhs.
• Institution must consider all non-refundable fees
• Verify duplication and reject the same at the institution level.
• Accept application from Muslim, Sikh, Jain, Buddist & Christian
communities only
• Institution must periodically check and forward application to
State Office
Conditions for Scholarship
• Financial assistance will be given to pursue degree and/or post
graduate level technical and professional courses from a
recognized institution.
• Maintenance Allowance & Course Fee will be transferred directly
from Center to the beneficiaries bank account through Public
Financial Management System(PFMS) under Direct Benefit
Transfer(DBT) mode.
• Students who get admission to a college to pursue
technical/professional courses, on the basis of a competitive
examination will be eligible for the scholarship
Conditions for Scholarship
• Students who get admission in technical/ professional courses
without facing any competitive examination will also be eligible
for scholarship. However, such students should have not less
than 50% marks at Plus Two(+2) / Graduation level. Selection of
these students will be done strictly on merit basis
• Continuation of the scholarship in subsequent years will depend
on successful completion of the course during the preceding year
Conditions for Scholarship
• The fund for distribution of scholarship in subsequent year will
be released after receiving the utilization certificate for the
previous year
• 30% scholarship will be reserved for girls of each minority
community in Kerala which is transferable to male student of
that community in case of non-availability of female candidate
in that community in the concerned state
Conditions for Scholarship
• If the target for distribution of scholarship to a particular minority
community in a state/UT is not fulfilled, it will be distributed
among the same minority community of other States/UTs strictly
in accordance with the merit
• A student residing in a particular State/UT will be entitled for
scholarship under the quota of that State / UT only irrespective of
his place of study

Documents to be Submitted(Fresh Applicant)
• Duly signed printed version of online application
• One copy of the passport size photograph with signatures of the
student thereon (for fresh scholarship)
• One attested copy of certificates, diploma, degree etc. in respect of
all examinations passed
• Income Certificate from Revenue Authorities
• Proof of permanent residence
• Proof of Community
• Copy of Fee Receipt which is verified by the institution
• NB: Application complete in all respect (hard copy) shall be
submitted to Special officer by post with out any delay either by
student themselves or by Institute. Do not wait for the last date
